Culture Clash: Molly and Tooey meet Trini, and discover just how easy it is to get wrong ideas about unfamiliar places.
"Culture Clash" contains the following tropes:
- Herbivores Are Friendly: Averted. Molly and Tooey warn Trini about the danger of a nearby moose before she can assume it's safe to approach just because it's not a carnivore.
- Innocently Insensitive: Molly and Tooey try to make friends with Trini after accidentally getting on her bad side. After they find out that she's from Texas, they watch an old cowboy movie to get an idea of what Texas is like. Molly and Tooey then wear cowboy outfits and start speaking in stereotypical Southern accents, unaware that these are untrue Texas stereotypes. Trini then shows them that Texas is not really like that. Later, Molly and Tooey get a taste of their own medicine when Trini assumes that there are polar bears everywhere in Alaska. A trip to the library helps clear things up.
- Missing Mom: Trini's introductory episode does nothing to explain where her mother is. In later episodes, we learn she's deployed with the army.
- Texans are Cowboys: Molly and Tooey watch a bunch of westerns that lead them to assume that the Mumfords lived on a ranch in Texas and rode horses all day.
- Whole Episode Flashback: Tells the story of how Molly and Tooey met Trini.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Trini is absolutely terrified of polar bears, to the point that she initially backs out of joining the Qyah basketball team, since they practice outdoors in the summer. It takes a trip to the library to show her there are no polar bears in or around Qyah, which is in the Alaskan interior.
Party Moose: Molly's trip north to surprise Nina for her birthday is jeopardized by a moose blocking the runway.
"Party Moose" contains the following tropes:
- All Your Base Are Belong to Us: A moose takes over the runway at Nina's campsite and does not intend to move anytime soon, preventing Layla and Molly from landing.
- Birthday Episode
- Chekhov's Gift: The whistle Tooey made ends up being just the tool Nina needs to scare the moose away.
- Moose Are Idiots: Layla attempts to scare the moose off the runway by buzzing it with a low pass. The moose doesn't even notice the enormous "bird" swooping down on it, and just continues to graze.
