Recap / Molly Of Denali S 1 E 7 Eagle Egg Hunt Dream Tube

Go To

Air date: July 30, 2019note

Eagle Egg Hunt: Molly and Dad try to find and fix an eagle cam after wind spins the camera away from the eagle's nest on hatching day.

"Eagle Egg Hunt" contains the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: Slowing down to appreciate wildlife in person is of much greater value than watching it on an impersonal livestream. Taking that time can bring valuable information.
  • Artistic License – Ornithology: Eagle eggs hatch a few days apart rather than all at once. This episode shows all the eggs hatching together.
  • Babies Ever After: The episode ends with the birth of three new eagle chicks.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Molly rolls her eyes when her dad drops an egg pun.
  • Meaningful Echo: When Molly gets impatient at the caribou cam, Walter tells her, "Watching nature on a laptop is one thing, but this is the real deal." This makes her slow down long enough to notice the caribou using a ford that's a lot closer than the nearest bridge. Later, when Walter grows impatient at the fox cam, Molly repeats his words back to him. A moment later, they see an eagle leading them to the correct camera.

Dream Tube: Molly and friends must come up with enough money to buy a water tube at the Trading Post—and they have to do it before Auntie Midge decides she wants to buy it!

"Dream Tube" contains the following tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: The kids want to buy a tube, but they don't have enough money. Auntie Midge also has her eye on it. Every time she goes into the Denali Trading Post, the kids think that she's gonna buy the tube, but she doesn't.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Trini finds a rock that she declares her lucky rock. It turns out to be a large agate, and Auntie Midge agrees to buy it for $30, giving the kids exactly the amount they need to buy the tube.
  • Good Luck Charm: Trini's rock.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: When Auntie Midge sees how desperately the kids want the tube, she decides to buy Trini's agate instead so that they can buy the tube.
  • MacGuffin: The water tube Molly and her friends want to buy.
  • Totally Radical: The sign above the tubes at the Denali Trading Post says "Totally Tubular."
