Recap / Milo Murphy's Law S1E06 "The Note"

Go To

Milo and the gang spend the entire day chasing after his doctor's note.

Tropes:

  • Acquainted with Emergency Services: The government is fully aware of the Murphy's luck that they dubbed their neighborhood as "The Murphy Sector".
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Milo mentions his doctor is playing golf, the scene cuts to two men in the middle of a golf game, with one asking the other if they're a doctor, which they deny. The one who asked turns out to be Milo's doctor.
  • Brick Joke: The head of the spy agency laments having unnecessarily disintegrated "parade astronauts" in the past. At the end of the episode, when the agency is forced to re-integrate Eliot the crossing guard, he reappears atop a pile of confused astronauts.
  • Foreshadowing: The song that the astronaut is listening to in the flashback hints at something we learn in "Secrets and Pies." It's from the Boy Band that Zack used to belong to.
  • Hero of Another Story:
  • It Kind of Looks Like a Face: An office worker wants to keep Milo's doctor's note because she left a coffee stain on it that looks like the inventor of the ant farm.
  • Long List: Milo's doctor's note is hundreds of pages long, detailing a month's worth of absences from school. Milo and his friends spend the episode trying to get the signature page.
  • Mundane Utility: A secret agent apparently used a spy drone to see if his brother-in-law borrowed his lawnmower without asking.
  • Noodle Incident: Melissa records Milo's misadventures on her phone. She references several incidents we've yet to see. Including a kangaroo, a tangerine fight at Mardi Gras, an asteroid, and "the llama incident".
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Milo crashes into a trash can, and moans "Oh no, I'm covered in garbage again!"
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: Played with.
Melissa: So are we going to find that note?
    Milo: That's a good question.
Zack: You're supposed to say "yes", Milo.
  • Running Gag: Melissa dramatically punctuating her sentences with "Boom!"
  • Shout-Out: We get a reference to Shaun of the Dead when Milo and co. cross paths with a Similar Squad.
  • Take Our Word for It: Zack's reaction to one of the pictures of Milo's misadventures is to wonder how long Melissa's selfie stick is.
