Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S1E13 Peace, Love and Woe

Go To

A dance is coming up this evening, and Billy doesn't plan to attend with a date. That is until he bumps into the girl Marge who asks him out first. Things are going well until Rita Repulsa's summoned monster Madame Woe mistakes Marge for a Power Ranger, and traps her in another dimension. Billy, and the other Rangers must save his date before it's too late.

Tropes

  • All Your Powers Combined: This episode shows the Rangers having the ability to give one of them their powers through their Power Coins. It ends up being an Informed Ability at best given that Madame Woe utterly beats on poor Billy for the majority of their fight.
  • Cassandra Truth: When cornered by Madame Woe, Marge tries to tell her she's not one of the Rangers. Madame Woe doesn't listen to her.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Marge never appeared or was mentioned again after this episode.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Madame Woe beats the everloving tar out of Billy even with the power boost he received from the others. Even earlier on the entire team wasn't able to land a good hit on her before Billy kicked her away. It's only thanks to a lucky leg sweep that Billy can remove her jewel and render her powerless.
  • Dark Action Girl: Madame Woe, the Monster of the Week
  • Distaff Counterpart: Marge shares Billy's propensity for Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness, and his preference for blue clothes. She also graduated from the Accelerated Baby Genius program!
  • Foot Focus: Bulk's dirty foot (a.k.a. his "bank") shown to get the money he owes to Ernie for the cake.
  • Forgot About His Powers: No one ever brings the technique of combining powers through the Power Coins up again in all three seasons.
  • It's All My Fault: Billy says this when he learns that Marge is kidnapped by one of Rita's monsters just to get Billy. Alpha 5 tells him he shouldn't blame himself.
  • Leitmotif: Madamee Woe's theme sounds oriental.
  • Mistaken Identity: Rita orders Madame Woe to get Billy at the park but she confuses his date Marge for the Ranger. Even Rita doesn't understand how she could've made the mistake.
Rita: "I can't understand you! I specifically told you to get the Power Ranger, Madame Woe! Not the girl!"
  • Monster of the Week: Madame Woe.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Billy arrives at the park to find that Marge isn't around, assuming she's either late or has stood him up. But then he finds her necklace on the ground, remembering her saying that she's always worn it since her mom passed away.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Bulk and Skull's disguises don't fool Ernie one bit. Presumably not the Rangers either.
  • Prehensile Hair: Woe can use her long braids like grapples.
  • Villainous Friendship: Despite being a Monster of the Week, Madame Woe is actually a sentient being who is an old friend of Rita's, as opposed to one of Finster's creations.
