Recap / Kaeloo S 1 E 21 Lets Play Baby Sitting

Go To

Stumpy wants to earn money by babysitting, but he doesn't have a baby to take care of, so he convinces Kaeloo to go on a date with Mr. Cat so that she can seduce him and get pregnant with his babies. While waiting for the date to be over, he practices babysitting Quack Quack.

"Let's Play Baby-Sitting" contains the following tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Mr. Cat calls Kaeloo "my coochie-coo".
  • Attempted Rape: Mr. Cat nearly forces himself on Kaeloo.
  • Babies Ever After: Stumpy tries to invoke this trope for Kaeloo and Mr. Cat. It fails because Kaeloo and Mr. Cat are so bad at communicating their emotions that just when they're about to have sex, Kaeloo has an emotional outburst and the whole thing ends with Mr. Cat getting pissed off at Kaeloo and not wanting to go through with the plan anymore.
  • Babysitter from Hell: Stumpy throws weapons at Quack Quack and force feeds him spinach using violent methods.
  • Babysitting Episode: The B-plot of the episode is about Stumpy babysitting Quack Quack, who neither wants nor needs a babysitter.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Quack Quack eventually gets fed up with Stumpy and shoves the baseball bat and funnel down his throat.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: Mr. Cat reads random articles from the newspaper to Kaeloo when she asks him if they can talk (the topic of the conversation being himself).
  • Continuity Nod: Mr. Cat uses the nickname "coochie-coo" to refer to Kaeloo.
  • Date Rape Averted: Kaeloo and Mr. Cat go on a date. He gets a little carried away and tries to force himself onto her, but she transforms and beats him up.
  • The Diaper Change: Stumpy says he has to change Quack Quack's diaper in order to be done with his babysitting practice. Quack Quack initially refuses, but he winds up feeling so sorry for Stumpy that he relents and allows him to do it. Stumpy being Stumpy, he winds up putting the diaper on Quack Quack's head.
  • Downer Ending: Kaeloo and Mr. Cat don't solve their Unresolved Sexual Tension, Stumpy's plan to earn money fails horribly, and the episode ends with Mr. Cat angry at Kaeloo.
  • Force Feeding: Stumpy eventually resorts to sticking the funnel in Quack Quack's beak, putting the spinach in it, and pushing it down with a baseball bat.
  • Gilligan Cut:
    • Kaeloo denies being in love with Mr. Cat. The next scene has her at a romantic dinner date with him.
    • Kaeloo says Quack Quack "happily accepted" to help Stumpy practice babysitting. The scene cuts to Quack Quack in a tree trying to get away from Stumpy while the latter throws objects at him to get him to come down.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Kaeloo attempts to seduce Mr. Cat so they can have sex and she can get pregnant. It works so well that he almost rapes her.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Kaeloo attempts to deny that she and Mr. Cat are "lovers".
  • Imagine Spot: Quack Quack has one about what Mr. Cat and Kaeloo's offspring would look like.
  • It's All About Me: Kaeloo dilutes what was supposed to be an apology to Mr. Cat into a sob story about her own suffering.
  • Makes Sense In Context: In-universe. Stumpy tells Mr. Cat that he has to find out how to make a baby so he can buy a comic book. Naturally, Mr. Cat is very confused.
  • Mood Whiplash: Mr. Cat's recounting of his backstory.
Mr. Cat: As a kitten, I was tied up in a sack and thrown into a rushing river. I was saved by a salmon, raised like her own son. Her greatest quality... she couldn't talk at all.
  • Patchwork Kids: Quack Quack's Imagine Spot of Kaeloo and Mr. Cat's babies features orange, whiskered tadpoles.
  • Shipper on Deck: Stumpy attempts to get Kaeloo and Mr. Cat together by setting up a date for them.
  • Spit Take: Mr. Cat's reaction to Kaeloo asking him if they can talk.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Kaeloo thinks Mr. Cat's declaration of love is a joke. To avoid making things awkward between them, Mr. Cat lies that he really was joking.
  • Take a Third Option: Kaeloo says Stumpy should gently feed Quack Quack the spinach, and Mr. Cat thinks he should beat him into submission with a mallet. Stumpy decides to be gentle, and whack Quack Quack on the head with the mallet every time he says no.
  • The Talk: Kaeloo tries to give Stumpy the Talk, but he interrupts her with his attempts to not breathe (as Mr. Cat had given him a fake version of the Talk telling him that to make a baby, you had to avoid breathing for two days).
