Recap / Kaeloo S 1 E 20 Lets Play Scaredy Cat

Go To

Stumpy raises an entire cemetery from the dead, causing a Zombie Apocalypse which Mr. Cat must stop.

"Let's Play Scaredy Cat" contains the following tropes:

  • Accidental Pun: Mr. Cat makes one while deriding Stumpy's zombie impression.
Mr. Cat (to Stumpy): We already told you, your zombie impression bites!
  • Artistic License – Physics: Most of Mr. Cat's fight moves, while fairly impressive, would be physically impossible in the real world.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Mr. Cat says he loves monsters and other scary stuff. About an hour later, he’s fighting off zombies all by himself in a dark forest late at night.
  • Brown Note: Mr. Cat's story makes everyone who hears it throw up, except Mr. Cat himself and Stumpy.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Mr. Cat comes up with a terrifying and disgusting scary story, but circumstances keep preventing him from telling it. By the end of the episode, there's a bunch of zombies who have risen from the grave, Kaeloo and Quack Quack have been turned into zombies, and Stumpy is being absolutely no help whatsoever. To solve the problem, Mr. Cat tells them his story as they surround him. The storynote  is apparently so disgusting that everyone throws up. Kaeloo and Quack Quack revert back to normal and the other zombies die.
  • Cower Power: Kaeloo mostly reacts to the zombies by hiding behind Mr. Cat.
  • Don't Go Into the Woods: Kaeloo warns Stumpy not to go into the forest. Stumpy ignores her, finds a cemetery which for whatever reason was inside the forest, and ends up accidentally causing a Zombie Apocalypse by raising the dead.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Mr. Cat sees Quack Quack surrounded by zombies and thinks that he laid eggs which hatched into zombies.
  • Episode of the Dead: Stumpy accidentally brings everyone in a graveyard back to life by reciting a magic spell, causing a Zombie Apocalypse. Mr. Cat manages to bring everything back to normal by the end.
  • From Bad to Worse: Mr. Cat and Kaeloo have to fight a huge army of zombies. Mr. Cat manages to anger Kaeloo enough to transform, but just as she transforms, Kaeloo is bitten and turns into a zombie. In her transformed state.
  • Gilligan Cut: As Stumpy is walking into the forest:
Kaeloo: If you find a book of magic spells with funny words in it, whatever you do, don't touch it! Is that clear?
    Stumpy: Yeah, whatever.
(Scene cuts to Stumpy in the forest in front of the book)
Stumpy: Wow! A book of magic spells with funny words in it that I mustn't touch! (reading from book) Zombie zombie zom, zombie zombie zombie woo!
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Mr. Cat refers to the zombies as "darn zombies" instead of "damn zombies".
  • Halloween Episode
  • Hidden Depths: Mr. Cat is shown to be capable of fighting a horde of zombies all by himself and single-handedly reversing the effects of a zombie apocalypse.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Happens twice in the same scene. Kaeloo sees a door in the forest and screams in fear. Mr. Cat questions why she is scared, and opens the door to see Quack Quack on the other side. He screams. Then, Kaeloo says that he’s going overboard.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Mr. Cat shows up to where the rest of the main four are and starts yelling at them. Unlike most instances, in this case, his actions are justified - he's hurt that the others never bothered to invite him to join them.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Everyone's reaction to Stumpy's "stupid" zombie impression, which he has apparently done before.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Mr. Cat gives one to the zombies.
Mr. Cat: Eat this... (cocks bazooka) you darn zombies.
  • Scream Discretion Shot: Quack Quack does something scary with his face offscreen. The scene cuts to Mr. Cat hearing Kaeloo and Stumpy's screams.
  • Security Cling: Kaeloo panics upon seeing the zombies and starts clinging to Mr. Cat.
  • Shout-Out: The episode pays homage to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Mr. Cat when he finds out that the others are playing his favorite game, "Scaredy Cat", without him:
Mr. Cat (to Kaeloo): So, I hear you're playing Scaredy Cat without me... WHEN IT'S MY FAVORITE GAME!
  • Technically-Living Zombie: Kaeloo and Quack Quack are turned into zombies after they are bitten by zombies. At the end, they are restored to normal after they throw up.
  • The Un-Reveal: Just as Mr. Cat is about to tell his story, the scene cuts to everyone's horrified reactions to its ending and the audience never gets to hear the story. The only thing we find out is that it made everyone except Stumpy throw up and Mr. Cat nearly fainted while narrating it.
  • Your Mom: Mr. Cat makes a joke about Kaeloo's mother to get her to transform.
Mr. Cat:Your Mom is so ugly she'd flip put a zombie!
  • Zombie Infectee: Quack Quack and Kaeloo are bitten and turned into zombies. While they are infected, their skin turns bluish grey. Mr. Cat eventually manages to cure them.
