Sabnock Residence Arc Summary

Chapter 205: Speaking of the Demon King

Iruma stops by the school room for the Demon King Battler Division, which is known for its discussion and literature collection on anything related to the Demon King. Opening the door, Iruma states that he has something he needs to ask them, but he winds up getting pulled into the room by its members who are hyped that someone is showing interest in the Demon King. A confused Sabro asks why Iruma's here, which the latter answers that he wants to ask the former about the Demon King, much to Sabro's excitement. He grabs hold of Iruma, and brings the latter to his division's private library containing all literature related to the Demon King, which leaves Iruma amazed at how large the library is. Sabro asks if anything catches Iruma's attention, and after a brief search, Iruma notices the "History of Delkira" book. Sabro gets excited at such a classic book, and recaps what he knows about Demon King Delkira. That said Demon King was one of the most popular of all time, and that before he went missing, Delkira's reign decorated the netherworld with glory thanks to him pulling off a drastic reform through his top magical power and charisma.

Sabro explains to Iruma that while there's many myths about Delkira, his favorite is the "Spiked Mountain Legend." A story where two armies about to fight in the northwestern Death Square territory was suddenly put to a halt due to Delkira stepping between them, and using his body to have every weapon stabbed into him. Yet he still stood, and ordered everyone from then on to get along. The powerful Delkira shrouded in aura while having all the weapons stabbed into him made him look like a spiked mountain of weapons, and in the end, he scared the two armies into stopping the fight: leaving no deceased and no injured. Sabro explains to Iruma that he read this story a lot as a kid, and that Delkira's bravery influenced him to one day become just as tough as he was. He also points out how this was probably Delkira's way of understanding pain in order to become a king worthy enough of ending a war, which Iruma admits that it sounds like Delkira was a kind person.

As Iruma and Sabro continue to go over other crazy events that Delkira pulled off, Sabro eventually asks if Iruma truly finds this all magnificent. That what's described in this library became the symbols of the netherworld that everyone loves and respects. Looking at the writing in one of the books, Sabro states once more in a serious manner that he wants to become Demon King because its the coolest, which impresses Iruma that the expression and atmosphere Sabro was giving off just now came off like he was truly a Demon King. Iruma and Sabro return to having fun looking over books in the library until they're both lying on the floor exhausted. Sabro mentions how surprising it is that Iruma's suddenly interested in Demon Kings. In return, Iruma thinks about his Thirteen Dinner interview, and states that he's come to realize that he's decided to confront the things he hasn't been paying attention to beforehand, such as his lack of knowledge regarding the Demon King, which catches Sabro's attention.

Following the school day, Sabro's in his apartment looking at the thank you message from Iruma for helping him out in the Demon King library. Sabro thinks over Iruma's words about confronting the things he wasn't paying attention to before, and decides to call up his little sister, Silvia. Sabro makes it clear that he's finally decided to return home, which comes as a huge surprise to Silvia.

Chapter 206: The Golden Lions

Upon arriving home, Sabro stands before the front gate that has a huge keyhole on its center. Activating his bloodline magic, Sabro bites one of his necklace metals, and forges a large metal key that fits into the keyhole. He enters the Sabnock household, and is greeted by Yamanda, his family butler. Silvia then runs up to Sabro, and hugs her brother out of excitement that he's finally returned home for a bit. The two of them play together until Silvia reveals the great news that she passed the Babyls entrance exam, and will be starting school as a freshman this term, much to Sabro's excitement. Before getting to celebrate, Silvia reveals that there's another surprise for Sabro as they have a special guest here who decided to show up after hearing that Sabro returned home, and that Silvia passed her test. Said guest turns out to be Thunder Lord Baal, who puts his shoulder around Sabro claiming that it's been awhile. In return, Sabro is happy to see his uncle Baal (not knowing that he's an evil demon). Sabro asks why Baal's here given the latter's work, which Baal assures him that he had some free time at the moment.

Wanting to know more about Baal, Sabro excitedly brings up how his uncle's a 13 Crown member, and the leader of the southern demon army. Sabro claims that his uncle's heroic exploits are too many to count as Baal's name alone makes soldiers turn tail and flee from the battlefield. In return, Baal just notes how Sabro is still the same big fan of his as ever. Sabro admits that such stories are invaluable for those aiming to be Demon King, which Baal smiles at him in return. As Baal switches to greet butler Yamanda, Silvia notes how impressive it is that dad's little brother became one of the 13 Crowns. However, Sabro points out the oddity that Baal and dad aren't actually blood-rated, which makes the two of them nothing alike. Baal then calls to Sabro that the latter hasn't seen his older brother yet, which Baal and Silvia force Sabro along in order to meet his dad since they haven't met in so many years. The three of them along with butler Yamanda arrive at a large metal door within the Sabnock household that has many weapons hanging above it; implying that it's a blacksmith.

Behind the door, Sabro's father, Sabzan, is currently hammering away at crafting a new weapon. Baal calls out to his older brother to inform him that Sabro's returned home, which catches Sabzan's attention. Sabro tells his father that he's here, which Sabzan accepts, but remains silent after that. Sabro turns to leave due to the silent awkwardness, but Sabzan calls out to his son claiming that he can't become Demon King, which strikes a cord in Sabro, and asks to be excused. Sabzan then asks to meet with Baal at a later time, which Baal accepts. Shortly after, Sabro's seen sitting at the dining room table alone, but is greeted by Baal, who isn't surprised that the broken relationship between Sabro and Sabzan is the same as ever. Sabro's about to apologize for storming off, but he's told by Baal that the latter is actually rooting for him as Sabro's not the one in the wrong. As a result, Baal offers Sabro a path to become Demon King, which catches Sabro's attention.

Chapter 207: The Path to Demon King

Having Sabro's full attention, Baal makes it clear that if Sabro wants his help to become Demon King he has to withdraw from Babyls and go with him. Baal explains that at the recent Thirteen's Dinner, the 3 Greats came up with a "Trickster Plan" where they raise the next Demon King. He reveals to Sabro that there's currently 3 Demon King candidates where Belial and Levi chose their respective grandsons, Razberry and Leiji, and that Sullivan chose his grandson, Iruma, which the latter surprises Sabro. Baal further explains that the 13 Crowns are all allowed to nominate their own candidates, which will obviously lead to said candidates eventually needing to compete against each other to show what they're made of. He assures Sabro that as the infamous "Tactician of the South," Baal will have Sabro's back to kick the other candidates out of the way, and place him at the top as the Demon King. Waiting to hear if Sabro accepts, the latter remains confused asking if that really is the cool thing to do, which confuses Baal.

Sabro explains his thoughts that he doesn't think it's cool how he will be known in history books as someone didn't become the Demon King himself, but had help from his uncle's recommendation. In return, Baal points out how Sabro would be wasting such a golden opportunity towards his Demon King ambition to not take a 13 Crown recommendation just because it's not cool, and that it's no different than what the 3 Greats are doing for Iruma, Razberry and Leiji. He asks if this means that Sabro is perfectly fine with letting Iruma get the jump on him, but Sabro quickly denies such a case happening claiming that after watching Iruma closely throughout the school year, he knows that Iruma isn't that kind of person, and that he's someone who doesn't take his connections for granted. Overall, Sabro admits that Baal's offer is a great opportunity as a short cut towards becoming Demon King, but he rejects said path for one reason. He announces that he made a rival and many friends that help him grow at Babyls, and that he still has to defeat his rival, Iruma, fair-and-square on a level playing field.

Knowing that Sabro's made his decision, Baal drops trying to convince him, but still offers to, at the very least, introduce Sabro to the rest of the 13 Crowns, which Sabro happily accepts. Sabro then sees Silvia and Yamanda enter the dining room to begin the feast, but as he turns back to Baal, he sees that his uncle's already left. Having finished his errands at the Sabnock household, Baal returns to Sabzan's blacksmith, wihch Sabzan reveals that he's done with his work as well. Sabzen hands his newly crafted weapon over to Baal, but not before angrily telling his little brother to stay away from Sabro and the rest of the family. In return, Baal excitedly states that he will do so now that he has what Sabzen gave him, which turns out to be a large spear. The smug Baal thanks his older brother and departs, which as he leaves, he notes how similar Sabzan and Sabro are as father-and-son.
