First Term Final Exams Arc Summary

Chapter 61: A Future To Look Forward Too

Following their transfer into the Royal One classroom, Kalego informs his Abnormal class that the final exam is just around the corner before everyone goes on a vacation for the end of the school term. Said announcement freaks out the Abnormal students, which Kalego happily warns them to get good grades if they don't want to take supplementary classes should they fail the test. The announcement also comes as a shock to Iruma given his poor grades as a result of being a human that knows nothing about the demon world.

Iruma, Clara and Azz meet up at their Magic Tools Research division room where Iruma reveals to them his disastrously low test grades to the point of his highest grade being a measly 6; even lower than Clara of all people. Despite Iruma's poor grades showing his ignorance of the demon world, Azz remains loyal to Iruma having already been won over by his friend's kindness and strength to overcome hardships. In addition, the sight of Wicked Phase Iruma sitting on the demon throne left a huge impression on Azz to the point of believing that Iruma will one day be the future Demon King. Overall, Azz convinces the three of them to study together to pass the test, which motivates Iruma when he hears that getting a good grade could potentially reward a rank-up.

Suddenly, Schnare Eligos, the 2nd-year fanboy student that drugged Ameri, arrives at the Magic Tools Research division to become a member. As it turns out, it had been decided by Ameri and her council to leave Schnare in the hands of Iruma's division. This is due to the potential that Schnare displayed crafting the personality-altering drug, and because the student council trusts Iruma and company to keep an eye on him. In the end, they're forced to accept Schnare as a new member of their Battler division.

Chapter 62: Devilish Studies

At home, Iruma struggles to study, and is unable to receive proper help from Sullivan and Opera. In addition, Ali is afraid of disappearing knowing that Iruma failing the test could result in a loss in demon rank as punishment. Upon returning to school, all the Abnormal students have taken it upon themselves to study for the test within Royal One; motivated to not lose their long vacation break. Meanwhile, Iruma, Azz and Clara begin their study session on the five subjects that will be on the test, but upon trying to answer some of the study questions, it's once more made clear that Iruma doesn't know anything.

Amongst the study textbooks however, Iruma's attention is brought to one called "Imaginary Biology of the History of the Demonic Realm," which asks questions related to the human world. For once, Iruma's able to properly answer the questions given his human world knowledge, and to the shock of everyone within the Abnormal class, he scores a perfect 100 for that specific textbook. Overall, Azz becomes excited that they finally found a study that Iruma is talented at, and informs him that teacher Dali's Demonic History class is coming up for Iruma to show off his newly discovered knowledge.

Iruma and company make their way over to Dali's classroom for their next class, but are confused to see some frightened students trying to escape. As it turns out, a large demon teacher with a mouth-mask named Balam Shichiro is substituting for the class while Dali is currently going through his evil-cycle. Iruma is interested in meeting Shichiro as it turns out that said teacher is the writer of the textbook that Iruma scored a 100 in, but he's suddenly put in a dangerous situation when Shichiro grabs hold of Iruma, and announces that he will be giving the boy who wants to meet him a warm welcome.

Chapter 63: Balam's Class

Just like Iruma, Clara and Azz all get tied up by the teacher, and are forced to go along with the class with the other captured students. Balam Shichiro begins his class, which is basically a detailed lesson on the imaginary beings of the human world that he finds to be fascinating creatures, whether it be human or animal. Throughout the class, Iruma hears the rumors of how Shichiro is a questionable teacher who likes to experiment on students. Hence, they're tied up because Shichiro is determining who to experiment on. Scichiro gets up close to Iruma patting the latter's back during a discussion about wings, but makes a discovery about Iruma that leaves the teacher completely shocked in disbelief. As a result, Shichiro ends the class, and drags Iruma off with him.

Iruma is brought to the faculty room where Shichiro reveals the bad news to his fellow teachers that he's discovered a kid with no demon wings. Upon investigating Iruma's back however, Blushenko and the other teachers are left confused by Shichiro's claim when they see that the boy has a tiny pair of wings. Unbeknownst to the teachers, Ali used his magic on the spot to quickly make Iruma a pair of fake wings. Iruma and Shichiro are then thrown out of the room for wasting their time.

As Iruma and Shichiro walk, the teacher grabs hold of the boy, and takes off his mouth-mask to show off his messed up mouth and fangs underneath. Shichiro does this as his way of apologizing for embarrassing Iruma just now. That showing his own secret will make up for forcibly revealing Iruma's (believing that Iruma's secret is his tiny wings). Shichiro also explains that the reason he ties people up is because his appearance scares people off, and that tying them up and touching them is the only way he knows how to interact with people. The teacher brings Iruma back to his office to offer the boy some tea, which Iruma believes at this point that Shichiro is actually a nice teacher. As a result, Iruma feels comfortable enough to reveal to Shichiro that he's a human.

Chapter 64: A Shocking Fact

The reveal comes as a shock to Shichiro given that he's always wanted to meet an imaginary creature, such as a human. Shichiro is thankful for the reveal, but he goes about scolding Iruma to be more careful when it comes to hiding such a secret given that there are demons out there who won't take such a reveal as kindly as him. Following the hours of scolding, Iruma returns to the Royal One classroom where its shown that his Abnormal classmates have already exhausted themselves out after just a day of trying to study. Their situation only gets worse when it's discovered that only Azz, Sabro, Kerori, and Schneider are smart amongst the Abnormal class. However, since Azz is already busy tutoring Iruma, that Sabro and Schneider aren't exactly tutor material, and that Kerori has to use her free time for her secret idol job, this leaves the rest of the class feeling screwed from saving their summer plans.

Iruma asks about the plans, which as it turns out, they were all planning to go to Walter Park; an amusement park that's said to be the #1 place in the demon world to have fun. Iruma becomes excited at the thought of going due to never being able to experience such a fun place throughout his rough life back in the human world. He joins in celebrating with his class, but they all fall into despair when they're reminded by Kalego that it's not going to happen if they can't pass the final exam. Suddenly, their attention is brought to Shichiro peaking in at their class, who remains worried about Iruma. The Abnormal students fear him at first given the rumors. However, along with finding out that he's kind, they also can't believe that Shichiro and Kalego are good friends due to being a pair of Wellston alumni who grew up together as classmates. Taking Iruma off to the side, Shichiro explains how he's noticed that Iruma is struggling at studying, and that he's decided to make for the boy a secret weapon.

Chapter 65: The Joy of Learning

Back at his office, Shichiro uses his hobby of crafting picture books to make Iruma an educational children's picture book that teaches the basics of demon world magic, which shocks Iruma when he realizes that he understands the content. Sure enough, Shichiro announces that he will make more books to further teach Iruma about the demon world in order to increase the boy's knowledge and chances of survival. Afterwards, Iruma continues to struggle in his tutoring sessions with Azz and Clara, which he starts to go around to his Abnormal classmates to learn from their strengths, such as learning math from Jazz, and using Lied's gaming hobby to learn about demon world history from video-games.

As time goes on, Iruma receives more educational picture books from Shichiro teaching many different demon world subjects, and continues his study sessions. Eventually, he finally manages to score as high as a 55 on a practice test, much to Azz and Clara's excitement that their efforts are starting to pay off. Back at Royal One, the Abnormal class has taken notice of Iruma's improvement towards studying, which they all decide once more to try to take studying more seriously. Iruma, Azz and Clara join in, and the class all starts working together to study and share notes for the final exam. Thanks to the efforts of Shichiro and his classmates, Iruma has officially changed his tune towards studying, and now finds it to be a fun thing to do. Eventually, the day of the test arrives. Kalego hands out the tests for his Abnormal students, which Iruma and company get to work.

Chapter 66: Final Exam

Once the tests are completed, Kalego grades their work, and shocks the class when he reveals that none of them failed. As the Abnormal students all celebrate their success, Kalego rewards some of them that were still at Rank 1 (Aleph) with rank-ups. Lied, Goemon, and Kamui are all promoted to Rank 2 (Bet) for scoring higher than average, and Schneider jumps two ranks to Rank 3 (Gimmel) for being the top score amongst all the first-years. The sight of the Abnormal students beginning to succeed impresses Azz, which he praises Iruma as someone who's talented at changing the people around him. Kalego then hands Iruma his exam report. It wasn't enough for a rank-up, but he still praises Iruma for being the most improved of the students.

Iruma leaves his classroom to inform Shichiro of his success, which he ends up bumping into said teacher along the way. To Iruma's surprise, Shichiro is shown to have cut back his long hair. Iruma shows off his exam report revealing that his studying has brought him up to the middle of the pack as the 81st best student amongst the 163 first-years. Shichiro celebrates Iruma's growth, and having witnessed Iruma slowly changing, Shichiro reveals that it's thanks to Iruma's influence that he's decided to try to change as well by being more approachable with others. Hence, changing his hair to something less scary looking. Shichiro then asks if Iruma has been trying his best, which Iruma happily admits he is.

Afterwards, Kalego meets up with Shichiro to discuss the exam results. It's revealed that Shichiro is at the level of Rank 8 (Chet) just like Kalego, and that his bloodline ability is Buzzer; a magic that allows for Shichiro to detect lies and wrong-doings of the target he's observing in an instant. Shichiro was using his ability over the whole school to check for cheaters during the exam. He confirms that there was one student he wasn't able to observe (implying that it was Iruma), but let's it slide. Meanwhile, during a celebration party with Azz and Clara, Iruma hears from Azz that their newest division member, Schnare, was caught trying to cheat on the exam, and was punished to take supplementary lessons.
