Recap / Infinity Train: Voyage of Wisteria: The Mediterranean Car

Go To

In which Chloe, Trip, and Serena decide to spend time away from Ash, the Poké trio relax in a library, and discussions on interspecies romance are brought up.

Tropes in this arc include:

  • Big "NO!": Electivire screams this when he learns that Ash and Dawn aren't together.
  • Break the Haughty: London is really thrown for a loop here. Not only is he forced to confront the fact the Apex killed fewer people than he expected, but the collateral damage and self-defense are much bigger, and that he has no say whatsoever because while they killed many under the guidance of Grace, they didn't know what they were doing, while London was fully aware of his actions. Even Mascarita brings it up; even without his Thanatos Gambit to recreate the Rabbit Tribe, London still went along with the sacrifice of his other Rabbit Tribe members.
  • Call-Back:
    • The bet by the Pokémon whom Ash will end up with makes a return.
    • The Noir Princess Car is brought up as one of the cars not actually raided by the Apex.
    • Among the indirect casualties, one of them is the Calligraphy Car.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Charlie and Vaggy's chart for the Apex's "crimes" is listed as such: red is for those they killed, yellow is collateral damage, green is self-defense, and white is for those Cars they never raided. To London's shock, not only is the red smaller than her expected, but the other colors are bigger overall.
  • Collateral Damage: Charlie and Vaggy's chart has one line for this, and to London's displeasure, it's bigger than the red one.
  • Crime of Self-Defense: One of the types of "Crimes" that Charlie and Vaggy analyze of the Apex, colored green in the chart. And, you guessed it, it's a lot bigger than anticipated.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Chloe doesn't win her first official battle as a Trainer, but she does knock down the opponent's Mawile and nearly defeated Incineroar if it didn't have Thunder Punch.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Alastor's second language, basically. He confirms that the Apex weren't the one to seemingly kill Ogami... Because the work done is too good to have been done by simple hooligans.
  • David Versus Goliath: Incineroar versus Chloe's Eevee. The Goliath wins.
  • Deceptively Silly Title: On the whole, the main focus is about a honeymoon car where passengers and denizens get close. It ends with the reveal that the smoking caterpillar is Ogami, and he's able to regenerate from 'dying' and is now ready to commit genocide on the 400 Rabbits Car.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kisaragi may be a lot of things, but he's smart enough not to try and kill someone who is connected to the Conductor and even saves Amelia from getting her head cut off.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Malika, one of the Solitaire soldiers, has decided to aid Ogami.
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Lusamine lampshades that, despite being rich, she isn't this.
  • Interspecies Romance: The focal point of the Mediterranean car is about how some passengers end up falling in love with denizens...to the point that they'll kill themselves if it means staying together. Notably, a lot of people think that Lexi and Amelia are a pair and the two vehemently deny this.
  • The Multiverse: Again Lusamine and Wicke are looking around in it with Chairman Rose hoping it can be sued to solve the energy crisis.
  • Mood Whiplash: For Part 1
    • First half: Chloe and Serena deciding to tag team battle together and Trip goes on a photography hunt, the Poké trio is resting in Azada while Electivire mourns how his ship has sunk and then the cheesy honeymoon car where denizens assume Lexi and Amelia are a couple.
    • Second half: London learning how much damage the Apex did across the train, Goh finding a secret room with a picture book of a "butterfly king" killing others, and The Reveal that Higgins is Ogami.
  • Not Me This Time: A somewhat complicated example. When Charlie and Vaggie decide to create a complete record of the Apex's actions, it turns out there's a huge chunk of death and destruction they weren't responsible for.
  • Not Now, Kiddo: Hazel tries to warn Goh about Warbler being Grace, but Goh states that there's more important things to consider.
  • Not So Above It All: Apparently, Electivire is a passionate Ash/Dawn shipper, and he loudly mourns that it didn't come true.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Goh's reaction to the torn-up picture book.
    • Ogami also has this when Hazel bites a finger off.
  • The Reveal:
    • Ogami has had a run-in with White Gestalt in the past as a secret room has scribbled up pictures of all four members.
    • Through Charlie and Vaggie's analysis, the massacres done by the Apex are relatively small compared to what has been spread, and they never rampaged in big cars like the Noir Princess or Severed Prophecy Car.
  • Secret Room: Ogami has one in the home theatre, where he attempted to build a 'Past-Life Reader' and kept records.
  • Thought-Aversion Failure: If you didn't want to think about Electivire being an Ash/Dawn shipper, Paul, maybe you shouldn't have grabbed a romance book from the Azada library.
  • Together in Death: Deconstructed. The honeymoon island is built around this idea, killing passengers so their souls can stay on the train together forever. Amelia is not pleased by this twisted self-righteousness, considering how much pain she had to go through from being without Alrick and her attempts to recreate her old life.
  • Wham Episode:
    • The final few paragraphs of the first chapter reveal that Ogami is alive.
    • The second chapter has the Quarto learn that Vox has now hijacked the Signal Car and Dahlia Hawthorn is now posing as a news announcer. Ogami is ready to commit genocide on the 400 Rabbits Car as Kisaragi gets everyone to retreat to a safe place while Mad Ben is ready to fight Lexi with a new retooled Omnitrix.
  • Wham Line: The final line of the first half. is Goh muttering "Ogami".
