Breakfast Of Champions

Felipe is so excited to work on the new climbing wall in the park that he skips breakfast- with disastrous results.

Tropes in “Breakfast Of Champions” include:

  • Covered in Gunge:
    • Pat gets his handle covered in batter while helping make breakfast for Manny. Oh, and he also gets an eggshell stuck on his head.
    • Turner gets splattered with some maple syrup courtesy of Felipe (okay, this time it was an accident).
  • Continuity Nod: Manny gets food for a breakfast for Felipe from Mr. Diller’s variety store.
  • Doomed Supermarket Display: Mr. Lopart at one point sets up a towering pyramid of cans outside his store; naturally, it’s sent tumbling down within two minutes.
  • Grandma's Recipe: This is parodied, when Pat claimed that he made Manny’s pancakes according to an “old family recipe”.
  • Growling Gut: This happens to Felipe when he runs out of energy due to having skipped breakfast. Let’s just say that this raises some interesting questions about how the living tools work, and leave it at that.
  • Hard-Work Montage: In addition to the usual, there’s also a non-musical montage of the tools putting together the climbing wall.
  • Missed Meal Aesop: Felipe learns the importance of a healthy breakfast after he skips his out of excitement.
  • Slippery Skid: Mr. Lopart does this on a can that fell off the top of his Doomed Store Display.
  • We Sell Everything: Okay, this is kind of the point of a variety store, but does Mr. Diller’s shop seriously sell groceries?!

Bowling Night

Manny and the tools go to Mr. Ayala’s bowling alley in order to fix a broken pinsetter. While Manny goes to Kelly’s to get a special replacement bolt, the tools stay and watch the bowlers bowl- until Mr. Lopart conscripts them into helping him try to fix the pinsetter himself.

”Bowling Night” provides examples of:

  • Bested at Bowling: Mr. Lopart finds himself being staunchly outbowled by his mother, who he was trying to teach how to bowl.
  • Bowling for Ratings: Manny and the tools go to Mr. Ayala’s bowling alley to fix a broken pinsetter, and while there encounter Mr. and Mrs. Lopart, who were out for a night of fun bowling.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Mrs. Lopart beating her son at bowling despite being an absolute beginner is portrayed similarly to the time she beat him at mini-golf under the same circumstances; heck, at the end of that episode, Mr. Lopart even said the he was going to take her bowling.
    • Mr. Lopart once again brings up his supposed bowling nickname, “Lightning Lopart”.
  • Instant Expert: Mrs. Lopert proves to be just as much of one at bowling as she was at mini-golf, much to Mr. Lopart’s annoyance.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Surprisingly averted, as Kelly and the other members of the bowling league all wear unique outfits while attending the bowling tournament.
  • Snap Back: At the end of the episode, Mrs. Lopart is invited to join the bowling league, and accepts the invitation; when the bowling league returns in “The Sheet Rock Hills Strikers”, she’s not a part of it.
  • Wasn't That Fun?: At one point, the tools get caught up and trapped in the broken pinsetter; after Manny frees them, Squeeze has this to say:
Squeeze: Can we do it again?
