The Ayalas’ Christmas Extravaganza
While going to City Hall to deliver toy donations, Manny stops by the Ayalas’ house to marvel at their Christmas lights- only, when they turn the lights on, the power goes out!
Tropes in “The Ayalas’ Christmas Extravaganza” include:
- Christmas Episode: The second one in Season 3.
- Christmas Light Chaos: The plot of the episode revolves around the Ayalas having set up a Christmas display so large and extravagant that it blows out the power for the entire block when they turn it on.
- Continuity Nod:
- The town Christmas tree is once again seen in the park.
- Mr. Lopart and Fluffy’s ugly Christmas sweaters return from “Flicker Saves Christmas”.
- Dreaming of a White Christmas: Christmas Episode? Check. Snow on the ground? Check.
- Homemade Sweater from Hell: Mr. Lopart is once again seen wearing his ugly Christmas sweater, as is Fluffy.
- Instantly Proven Wrong:Mr. Lopart: Yeah, this gingerbread house is solid as a rock.
(The gingerbread house’s chimney falls off) - "Pan Up to the Sky" Ending: The episode ends with the camera panning up to the night sky, showing an oddly bright star shining.
- Pet Dress-Up: Just like in “Flicker Saves Christmas”, Mr. Lopart’s put Fluffy in an ugly Christmas sweater.
- Power Outage Plot: This is downplayed; the Ayalas’ absurd amount of Christmas lights blow out the power to the entire block, but Manny is able to get the power back on relatively quickly and easily.
- Star of Bethlehem: A star which looks suspiciously like it can be seen during the "Pan Up to the Sky" Ending.
- True Meaning of Christmas: Christmas is about giving, not getting.
- Wasn't That Fun?: At the beginning of the episode, after Felipe is carried away by an avalanche of wrapping paper tubes:Felipe: Hey, that was fun! Can we do it again?
Mini-Golf Game
After installing a signal light at Peggy and Miguel’s golf course, Manny and the tools plan to relax and golf a little… but end up having to free Mr. Lopart when he gets himself trapped in a miniature windmill.
”Mini-Golf Game” provides examples of:
- Bizarre and Improbable Golf Game: This happens to Mr. Lopart, when a ball he hits ricochets around like crazy and lands in a water hazard.
- The Bus Came Back: Peggy and Miguel Salazar, after having been absent since “Tool Talk” except for brief cameos, return in this episode.
- Help, I'm Stuck!: After Mr. Lopart’s ball gets stuck in the golf course’s mini-windmill, he climbs into it to get it out, and somehow (via an Offscreen Reality Warp) gets himself stuck in the mini-windmill in a way that resembles a giant Alice inside the White Rabbit’s house.
- I'm Okay!: Pat says this after trying to hit a ball and falling over.
- Instant Expert: Mrs. Lopart proves to be this at golf, much to the chagrin of Mr. Lopart, who both has a lot more golfing experience and is a lot worse at it.
- Mini-Golf Episode: Manny and the tools, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Lopart, both enjoy some time playing at Peggy’s mini-golf course.
- Offscreen Reality Warp: Mr. Lopart gets himself improbably stuck in the mini-windmill via one; this is Lampshaded by Felipe.Felipe: Wow! How did Mr. Lopart do that?
- Series Continuity Error:
- Mrs. Lopart is shown to be a complete beginner at golf here, despite the fact that Mr. Lopart mentioned that she golfed regularly in “Sculptor Manny”.
- Here, the hole-in-one prizes Peggy and Miguel are giving out are specifically because it’s the mini-golf-course’s 3rd anniversary, despite the fact that they were giving out hole-in-one prizes in “Tool Talk” when it wasn’t any anniversary of the golf course.
- Suddenly Bilingual: Mr. Lopart is randomly revealed as being able to speak ASL.
