Mime is not the ideal person to be put in this situation.
"If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!"

Episode: 4.3 (Four on the Floor)

Airdate: October 30, 2006

A fire rages out of control, and it's up to the Happy Tree Friends to contain it.

"Who's to Flame?" provides examples of:

  • Advertised Extra: Mime, the starring character, only shows up in the beginning and end.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The "eject" button on the helicopter shoots you out of the helicopter to safety. Too bad you'll get sliced up by the blades on top of the helicopter.
  • Brick Joke: The fire is caused by a frying pan in the beginning, then in the very last scene after the entire town is blown up we see the same frying pan still intact.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Cuddles falls mouth first on a fence post, impaling him.
    • Cub is cut in several pieces by a ladder's steps when it falls on him.
    • Flaky's brain is forced out of her head when the firetruck's horn is launched onto her head and impales it.
    • Lifty's head is crushed by an engine.
    • Shifty is impaled by several sharp objects. Russell gets killed by the same objects when he lands on Shifty's corpse.
  • Deadly Escape Mechanism: When Disco Bear accidentally sprays burning gasoline at Handy's helicopter and it starts nose-diving, Handy activates its Ejector Seat, which sends him straight into the helicopter blades.
  • Downer Ending: Everyone fails on stopping the fire while the Mole accidentally causes a massive explosion, destroying the whole town and killing everyone except Mime and a cat.
  • Everything Explodes Ending: The fire is finally "stopped" when the Mole accidentally causes a massive gas leak which completely destroys the entire town and kills everyone in it except for Mime and a cat.
  • Hope Spot: Handy putting out a fire for one of the buildings with a helicopter.
  • House Fire: At first. The Tree Friends' bumbling results in it being spread to the rest of the town.
  • Ignorant About Fire: Given the episode's plot, there are quite a few examples:
    • Petunia talks on the phone while leaning on the lit stove, setting her tail ablaze. Giggles throws a tablecloth on her to extinguish her, which works for a second, but then the tablecloth catches fire too (as does Giggles).
    • After Giggles and Petunia are set alight, Mime tries to call the fire department, but forgets the last number to 911. When he finally remembers, he tries to mime what's going on over the phone. Naturally, Lumpy (who is on the other end) can't understand him.
    • The Mole accidentally hooks the hose up to the fire truck's gas tank, causing gasoline to spurt out and the fire gets even worse. Justified, though, given his blindness.
    • At the end, the Mole lights a match, unaware of the gas leak, which makes the town explode.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: There have been several instances where the characters have accidentally eaten someone's organs or blood.
  • Irony: Lumpy, who is a firefighter this episode, is playing with fire.
  • Killed Offscreen: Pop was charred by the flames away from the viewer.
  • Man on Fire: Giggles, Petunia, Sniffles, and Pop all burn to death.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Lumpy, Cuddles, Sniffles, Toothy, Disco Bear, and The Mole are all firefighters for this episode.
  • Out of Focus: Mime being the starring character for this episode, only appears in the beginning and end.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The inspiration for this episode came from a traumatic incident from when Ken Pontac (writer) was a toddler. He saw his mother catch on fire while making breakfast because she was talking to his grandmother on the phone and didn't notice that she was next to the stove.
  • Robbing the Dead: Lifty and Shifty steal Pop's wallet from his burned corpse.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Mime does this in the final scene when he sees that the town is destroyed and everyone else is dead. He does this by walking down an invisible set of stairs behind a picket fence while carrying a cat with him (the very same cat that the firefighters rescued from earlier in the episode).
  • Sole Survivor: Despite disappearing for most of the episode, Mime managed to not get burned or killed.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Cuddles, Petunia, Giggles, Sniffles, Cub, Pop, Flaky, Lifty, Shifty, Russell, Handy, The Mole, Disco Bear, Nutty, Toothy, and Lumpy (the latter 4 were confirmed by Word of God) die in this episode.
    • It's worth noting that this episode has 3rd highest amount of deaths (tied with "Aw Shucks!") in an episode (beaten by "Class Act" and "Wrath of Con").
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Mime survives along with a cat that the firefighters rescued from earlier in the episode.
