After surviving a wesen ambush from a terrorist cell known as the Black Claw, Nick discovers "Juliette" is still alive, but with a brand new name, look and militant personality. Nick reaches out, but will "Eve" accept him?
The group soon learns that Black Claw's attacks go beyond Portland.
The Wesen world is changed forever by an attack on the Wesen Council.
This episode provides examples of:
- Benevolent Boss: When Black Claw leader Lucien Petrovitch is introduced, he's examining the wreckage of Eve's encounter with the Black Claw members who ambushed the Grimm gang when he finds Billie still alive. She describes what happened and tearfully apologises for failing, implying she's about to become a victim of You Have Failed Me. Instead, Lucien pulls her into a hug and tells her this was only one battle.
- Call-Back: Startled to hear about Juliette's apparent return, Rosalee hopes this won't be like the last Back from the Dead situation they had to cope with, because she's "not ready to host another Jack the Ripper party."
- Deliberate Values Dissonance: When Nick and Hank visit Billie Trump's parents to question them about their daughter's connection with Black Claw, they insist their daughter is "living a life of courage and conviction" and that they're proud of her, which is an interesting take on vandalism, kidnapping and murder.Hank: At least they're supportive.
- Due to the Dead: Black Claw hold a funeral for the members who were killed in the last episode, where they're cremated on a massive funeral pyre. Their leader, Lucien Petrovitch, gives a speech honouring their sacrifice.
- Heel Realization: Adalind tells Nick she regrets pretty much everything she's done since the series began, except for her children.
- He Knows Too Much: Xavier is killed in his cell by a Black Claw member who got arrested on purpose to keep him quiet.
- Mind Rape: It's not clear what Hadrian's Wall did to Juliette, but she's become a totally different person, effectively a living weapon.
- Oh, Crap!: Adalind's reaction to learning that Juliette is alive.
- Put on a Bus:
- Alexander evades Black Claw by escaping through a window, and is never seen again.
- Billie Trump is also never seen again.
- Secret Test of Character: Nick's meeting with "Juliette" is arranged to coincide with her assassination of a Black Claw leader to see if Nick will be blinded by his feelings for Juliette. She kills her target using magic, Nick takes out his bodyguards before they can hurt any bystanders and then deals with the arriving police, thus passing the test.
- Shout-Out:
- Meisner says "Sorry about the mess," regarding the fight at the restaurant.
- The title references Eve of Destruction, which also features a person who has become a living weapon.
- The Big Damn Kiss: Nick and Adalind have their first (knowing, intentional) kiss. Adalind says it was probably a mistake. Nick says that, if they go down this road, it should be because of them and not anything else.
- That Man Is Dead: Eve insists that Juliette is gone.
- Wham Shot: The Wesen Council is gunned down by a member who turns out to work for Black Claw. De Groot is killed, and Alexander barely escapes with his life.
