A Hexenbiest can be a very effective Mama Bear.

Knowledge is Power.

After the events at Monroe and Rosalee's wedding, Nick is faced with losing his identity as a Grimm. Hank and Juliette join Nick as they try to figure out how to deal with Trubel as she faces the consequences of a heinous murder she committed.

Meanwhile, when Wu arrives at the scene, his discoveries bring back images of his traumatic encounter. A new threat arrives in Portland to steal the memories of its victims, leaving them in a state of dementia.

Elsewhere, Captain Renard's life hangs in the balance and Adalind falls into Prince Viktor's trap as she desperately searches for her baby.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Adultery: The gang are... rather shocked to hear that Adalind managed to depower Nick by sleeping with him. They ask him to explain, Monroe with a "please don't let this be what it sounds like" attitude. Rosalee's is a little more "this better be good or I'm going to break your nose."
Nick: It's not what you think.
Monroe: Well, that's good to hear, because what I'm thinking is pretty damn awful.
    Nick: It wasn't Adalind.
    Rosalee: Oh, no?
Nick: Okay, it was Adalind, but she didn't look like Adalind. She somehow made herself look just like Juliette.
  • Call-Back:
  • Cliffhanger: Trubel is following the Wesen suspect alone. Elsewhere, Renard flatlines.
  • Exiled to the Couch: Averted. Nick offers to sleep on the couch, but Juliette tells him they're not going down that road again.
  • Flatline: Renard dramatically flatlines just as his mother arrives at the hospital.
  • Friendship Moment: Monroe and Rosalee cancel their honeymoon rather than leave the gang to deal with things alone.
Juliette: Please, you guys, don't let us drag you into this more than you've already been dragged into it.
Rosalee: Juliette, are you kidding me? You think we could go anywhere with what's going on?
  • Killing in Self-Defense: Trubel's killing of Weston is open-and-shut self-defense, so the gang's tactic for dealing with the FBI is to tell the truth, albeit edited to exclude any mention of Hexenbiests or Hundjager.
    Trubel: I killed that guy.
    Nick: In self-defense.
Hank: They're going to be all over Trubel.
Trubel: What am I supposed to say?
Nick: You're just gonna tell the truth, except for the part about the Hundjäger.
    Hank: And Adalind.
Juliette: And the bottle he brought for Nick.
Hank: All right, look, we better figure this out pretty quick. And if we have to lie, we better all be telling the same one.
  • Leave No Witnesses: The Gedachtnis Esser is regretful when the first victim's girlfriend comes home early, meaning he has to kill her.
  • Mind Rape: The Gedachtnis Esser uses tentacles to take his victims' memories, leaving them as an empty, catatonic husk.
Trubel: [Reading from a Grimm diary] "It is not known how this Wesen removes the memories of its victims, only that it can. I surmise it has something to do with the electrical charges in the brain. After an attack the victims are usually diagnosed with advanced dementia. From interviewing some of these unfortunate souls, I can see why. This is one of the most heinous Wesen I have ever encountered. They rob the victims of their very lives by stealing their past and leaving them void of any human connection, devastating to their loved ones, and leaving the victim unable to identify the attack or the attacker. Justice within the confines of the law is, therefore, impossible."
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Renard's mother arrives at the hospital just in time to watch her son flatline. Downplayed given later events.
  • We Have to Get the Bullet Out!: The scene of Renard's emergency surgery shows the surgeons removing the bullets. Somewhat Justified as one of them is apparently pressing on his spinal chord.
