This Due to the Dead is only a few milennia overdue.

You shall not become corrupt, you shall not become putrid, you shall not become worms.

Two murders and the attempted theft of a very strange mummy bring Monroe and Rosalee to reveal that the Wesen were considered gods by the ancient Egyptians. The murderers are part of a movement that retrieves Wesen remains and prevents them from being displayed.

Adalind and Meisner are endangered when Sebastien reveals their whereabouts under torture.

Juliette visits Wu, and shares her own trauma in the hopes of helping him with his struggles.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Call-Back:
  • Deity of Human Origin: It was believed that if someone was buried with an Anubis, they too would become a god, and so they were hunted a lot in Ancient Egypt.
  • Due to the Dead: The Beati Paoli hunt their mummified remains so they can give them proper burial.
  • Egyptian Mythology: Wesen used to be gods in Egyptian myth, particularly Anubis. Apparently Ammit, Bastet, Khepri, and Tefnut are also Wesen.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Played with. Alexander comes to Portland apparently just to tell Nick that the murderer he's after has "crossed the line" by killing someone and the Council would like that person dead. However, no one believes that this is all he came to town for and investigate, revealing that he's been in Portland for days and is after the mummy himself.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The Beati Paoli are thieves and murderers (although that last part was unplanned), but they're not wrong that displaying the remains of Wesen who were tortured to death for a Pharoah's burial rites is probably distasteful. It's also true that Dr Gates was probably about to cause a lot of problems with her discoveries about the Anubis skeleton.
  • Like a God to Me: Anubis were worshiped as the god(s?) of mummification in the time of Ancient Egypt. This didn't work out as well for them as could be expected.
  • Title Drop: By Monroe, almost verbatim.
Monroe: We were gods, once. What happened?
  • Water Torture: Sebastien, revealed as Renard's spy in the Royal family, is lured to a meeting that ends with him being taken prisoner. He's subjected to waterboarding as well as No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, and gives up the location where he dropped off Adalind and Meisner.
