Baron Samedi is up to something.

Papa Ghede is a handsome fellow in his hat and coat of black. Papa Ghede is going to the palace! He'll eat and drink when he gets back!

Nick and Hank investigate a double homicide in which one victim appears to have died twice. The culprit is Baron Samedi, a mysterious Wesen with a bewitching effect on his victims. But who is he, and what is his connection to Renard's brother Prince Eric?

After reuniting with Nick, Juliette wants to understand his other life. She turns to Monroe and Rosalee to learn more of the Wesen community.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Back for the Dead: An in-universe variation as Nick and Hank are startled to find that their Victim of the Week was already declared dead three days earlier, and no, it's not a paperwork error.
  • Cliffhanger: Baron Samedi is shown into Eric's hotel suite, where he's greeted like an old friend.
  • Continuity Snarl: Adalind is tricked into signing a magical contract with Stephania, with the implication that fatal consequences will ensue should she fail to deliver the child as promised. However, when she escapes with Diana later, absolutely nothing magical happens to her. Maybe she technically fulfilled the terms of the contract by taking Diana to Renard, who is technically a member of the Royal family?
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Eric's assessment of Portland.
Eric: Let's see, we've got a port... we've got land... they really stayed up all night on that one, didn't they?
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Juliette remains impressively calm while seeing Rosalee, Bud and Monroe's woges, excusing a trip outside for some air. Afterwards, though, she suggests a drink, a sentiment the others heartily endorse.
  • Internal Reveal: She was already clear something weird was going on, but Juliette is informed about the Wesen community.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Renard is startled to find that his brother Eric has arrived in Portland, and so secretly that Renard's spy Sebastien wasn't able to warn him. Clearly, Eric is up to something.
    • Bud's reaction when Juliette asks to see a woge. Monroe feels the same way, but also that it's past time she was brought up to speed.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Baron Samedi raises Voodoo Zombies that first appear dead, then are passive slaves, then feral violent maniacs. He does this by spitting green stuff in their face that apparently contains tetrododoxin, scopolamine and datura.
  • Rule of Three:
    • Juliette witnesses three Wesen woges in her quest to understand Nick's Grimm life: Rosalee, Bud and Monroe.
    • Nick sees Baron Samedi three times: rubbernecking outside the crime scene, at the hospital and on the security footage, removing Lily O'Hara from her room at the ICU.
    • Sebastien finds three folders with fake documents, a passport with no photo and a death certificate, in Eric's desk. The third, for a Tomas Shirach, is empty.
  • Shame If Something Happened: Realising she's being cut out of the Royal baby deal, Frau Pesch approaches Adalind to tell her how unfortunate it might be if word got out about her baby, given that certain parties might find her more valuable alive than dead.
  • Waking Up at the Morgue: Variation. Lily O'Hara leaves the death-like stage of zombification as her autopsy begins, but "waking up" is probably not the right term. The Victim of the Week had the same experience just prior to the events of the episode.
  • Working the Same Case: Prince Eric comes to Portland with a mysterious agenda just as crazy zombie stuff starts happening. Surely there's no connection...
