Gordon and Bullock hunt down the Court of Owls' weapon, while Bruce continues to train with the shaman.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Gordon blows off the hand Barnes is wielding his ax gauntlet with.
  • Badass Boast: Penguin counters with one of these when Nygma gloats that he's got Barbara and the criminal underworld backing him:
"And I have an army of Strange's monsters from Indian Hill. And even if I were alone, you wouldn't stand a chance."
  • Cardboard Prison: Barnes isn't even back in Arkham before he escapes again.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Mere minutes after Kathryn reveals that she isn't the Court's leader, she suffers an Off with Her Head! moment from an even more deranged Barnes.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Nygma doesn't like Penguin calling him anything other than "Riddler".
  • Enemy Mine: Penguin and Riddler form one to escape the Court's prison.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Kathryn arranged for Barnes to be armed and unleashed to deal with Gordon, and ends up the one dead instead.
  • Honor Among Thieves: Penguin and Riddler agree not to try to kill each other for the night so they can team up to escape. Upon escaping, aside from a tense moment as they hold their weapons up and to the side, they both simultaneously drop said weapons and go their separate ways.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Alfred, Gordon, and Bullock learn about Bruce being replaced by his clone (and the latter two find out about the clone's existence). Also, they find out about each other's respective investigations into the Court.
    • Nygma learns about Penguin's "monster" army.
  • Longing Look: When Oswald and Ed walk away from each other, Oswald turns around to watch Ed for a second.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The shaman reveals to Bruce that he's been manipulating the Court to maintain control of Gotham.
  • Mythology Gag: Barnes' ax-gauntlet is similar to Phantasm's. Fans might find his background as a Lawman Gone Bad to be very similar to a cross between Lock-Up and the Judge (Two-Face's third personality).
  • Off with Her Head!: What happens to Kathryn when she tries to interfere in Barnes' quest.
  • Oh, Crap!: Nygma's reaction when Penguin tells him about his monster army.
  • The Power of Hate: Penguin says that his need for revenge against Nygma is what gave him a reason to live after Nygma shot him.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Alfred gives Selina one due to her being unwilling to save Bruce. Whether this is merited or not is debatable: she did come back to Wayne Manor to take out the clone, warn Alfred, and tell him about the plan to burn Gotham to the ground. Plus, asking a kid to risk her life yet again, when he previously chewed Bruce out for doing that exact thing, makes him seem a wee bit hypocritical.
  • The Reveal:
    • Kathryn isn't actually the leader of the Court of Owls.
    • The image that appears when light shines through the crystal owls is a map of Gotham, with certain locations (presumably Court bases) marked.
  • Unexpected Character: Barnes's supervillain persona, the Executioner, is indeed a real (but obscure) villain from the comics, who only made a single appearance in 1953's Detective Comics #191.
  • Wham Shot: Lee deliberately injecting herself with the Alice Tetch virus.
  • What You Are in the Dark: This episode seems to highlight it with Selina especially. Both times she is alone with clone!Bruce (this episode and two episodes ago), she talks about how real!Bruce is a better person in every way, not to mention she tries to stop clone!Bruce, tries to warn Alfred that he's not the real Bruce, and tells Alfred about the plan to destroy Gotham. Yet when Alfred tells her to help him find Bruce, she says, "There's nothing in it for me," making her come across as uncaring. Had Alfred stepped back and observed her actions, he might have seen that she cared a great deal about Bruce, despite her unconcerned facade. Actions speak louder than words, indeed, with Ms. Kyle.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: Gordon grabs the pin off of one of Barnes' grenades, but Barnes gets rid of it in time.
