Recap / Film Reroll Rogue Two A New Hope

Go To

Episodes 132-135, 139-142 of Film Reroll. Based on the 1977 space epic... while also being the long-awaited sequel to the Rogue One campaign.

The on-going civil war between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance continues on unabated, with the Rebels struggling against the forces of the ominous Darth Vader as a brand-new superweapon threatens their continued survival: the planet-destroying Death Star. However, a glimmer of hope has been achieved: Princess Leia Organa has just been delivered the plans for the Death Star, which reveal a fatal flaw in its structure that, if exploited, will truly mark the turning point in the war for the Rebel Alliance. To that end, Princess Leia entrusts the aid of two droids, C3PO and R2-D2 to deliver the plans to an old ally, one Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is living in hiding on the planet of Tatooine, the same planet where a lonely farmboy named Luke Skywalker resides, wishing for a greater purpose in life than he currently has...

But not all is as it appears.

Some of the key players in obtaining the plans, K-2SO and the Rebel pilot Steve, unsure if the ship that had been transmitted the plans avoided destruction, take their own journey across the galaxy with the hard drive containing the plans, seeking some alternative way of delivering the vital information. Meanwhile, due to the mad scramble to gain access to the plans in the first place, Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor have been taken captive by Director Krennic, with the former being used as a means of extracting information from one of the key developers of the Death Star, Jyn's father Galen Erso, who he suspects of having done something to the Death Star as it was being constructed...

Interestingly for this campaign, rather than try and wrangle a large number of people into one video call, Paulo has opted to split the campaign into three groups and stitch them together, as all work independently to try and take down the Death Star, with the possibility of the threads coming together being left open.

Starring Kara Strait as K-2SO, Anyone as Stevenote , Carolyn Faye Kramer as C-3PO, Aram Vartian as R2-D2, Andy Hoover as Luke Skywalker, Jocelyn "Joz" Vammer as Jyn Erso, Scott Aiello as Cassian Andor, Lisa Kopitsky as Chewbacca and Kleeshak Varshon, Jon Miller as Bitho Parras and Paulo Quiros as the Dungeon Master.

Not a story about Zev Senesca becoming The Chosen One.

At eight parts and a combined runtime of about twenty-two hours, this is to date the longest campaign of the show.

Intercepted by Clue.

    A-M
  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Downplayed: Although he doesn't in the movies, Paulo decides that for this campaign, C-3PO is capable of using his arms.
  • Ace Pilot: Bitho Parras successfully manages to avoid the TIE Interceptors chasing him through the asteroid field which used to be Alderaan. The TIE pilots themselves aren’t nearly as good and end up smacking into one another.
  • Acting in the Dark: As part of how Paulo structured the campaign, each separate group is kept in the dark as for what the other groups are doing, and will only know if the groups cross.
  • Adaptational Badass: In Rogue Onenote , General Draven seems like a deskbound commander who directs his subordinates from the Rebel base at Yavin 4. With said base destroyed, he personally rushes into action and joins the Death Star infiltration team, as the situation is desperate enough that all fighting-capable soldiers are needed.
  • Adapted Out:
  • Addiction-Powered: In Part 3, Jyn winds up acquring a white pill called "Yenga", made from a local plant; it was meant to treat "hibernation sickness", but in large quantites acts as a massive stimulant. It is currently not legally available, and (due to the size of the dosage of the pill in question) can greatly increase strength and speed, but cause a severe clouding of judgement, and is lethal if taken too much. Or, as Joz and Scott conclude, Jyn was given Space Coke. Jyn winds up needing to take it when she and Cassian almost get arrested by a cop.
  • Almost Famous Name: invoked After Kara has Delbar make a Coolio referencenote , Paulo briefly explains that the Coolio in question was a local Gibad politician.
  • Ambiguously Human: Digma looks perfectly human, but he somehow manages to shrug off getting shot by a blaster.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • With Dagmar having been left alone on the Phantom while on Yavin 4, when the base starts being attacked, everyone isn't sure if Dagmar had some involvement with the turn of events.
      • Meanwhile, Jon hypothesizes that Leia was the actual cause, having sold out the Rebels to avoid torture/murder, a theory Carolyn doesn't buy.
  • Anyone Can Die:
    • Thanks to Luke's group accidentally being too good at avoiding the Death Star, it stands to reason that Princess Leia is doomed to be executed.
Andy: I frankly think it's a shining moment- I think this plotline has been great for just, like, kinda just, like, incidentally being like- we're willing to k- we're willing to sorta, like, stick to the script, but also just, like, kill increasingly large sacred cows as we move forward.
    • By the end of the final episode, only Jyn, K-2SO and Obi-Wan survive: Luke Skywalker gets blown up by a TIE Fighter during the trench run, R2-D2 gets fried when he uses himself as a circuit breaker, and Galen Erso, C-3PO, Cassian and Leia are still on the Death Star when it blows up. On the plus side, however, it's heavily implied so was Darth Vader.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Variation: Rather than directly attack him, Steve puts his "chef"'s hat onto Delbar's head and shoves him backwards towards the guards they were outrunning, with Mason apologizing before doing so.
  • Asshole Victim: Variation: Because Luke is having trouble reconciling the fact that his father is in reality Darth Vader, he eventually snaps over Cassian speaking negatively about him and punches him.
  • Atrocious Alias: A Running Gag is born in Part 2 out of a bad Leadership roll when Cassian tries to talk Krennic's sous-chef, Sprastik (who he and Jyn had decided to take with them to Silver City), into joining their cause by telling him a story about the "Schmimperial Schmempire" and the "Schmebel Palliance". He tries winning Kleeshak over in Part 6 by telling the same story, with about the same level of success.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Even though he isn't particularly fond of Cassian, after Luke punches him, K-2SO gets directly in front of Luke's face and spells out that if he attacks Cassian again, he will not be afraid to "put [him] in the ground".
Cassian: That's your one, kid. That's your one.
K-2SO: I will not be giving you one on me.
  • Babysitting Episode: K-2SO's subplot in the second episode sees him watching after the young daughter of the Governor of Gibad (who turns out to be Force-sensitive).
  • Backstab Backfire: Ollie, the chef Cassian and Jyn try to take with them when they begin their escape, tries to rat them out to the servant, Betara, that brings some food to the cells. However, as soon as Cassian notices the signal he gave her, he holds Betara at gunpoint and chews Ollie out.
Cassian: (disappointed) Ollie, I saw that look. Ollie. What're you doing?
  • Bait-and-Switch : Variation: When K-2SO is babysitting Khaki, they wind up traveling toward the roof of the space port... only for Khaki to Crit Fail a dexterity roll, and begin falling off of the roof. Once it's made painfully clear that Kara's only options are either to try and catch her before she falls, or to let her fall, she ultimately decides to try and save her... only for K-2SO to barely miss grabbing her. As such, Paulo narrates her falling off the roof, and falling to the ground... and then silence. For, as you see, she stopped falling a foot above the ground, and safely landed soon after, none the worse for wear. As such, Kara is very not happy with Paulo keeping the fact that Khaki was Force-sensitive secret until the last moment.
  • Bar Brawl: Cassian winds up almost causing one by finishing Jyn's drink that a large crime boss alien, "The Patron", had given her, insulting one of his mooks in the process... and, because of a failed Fast Talk roll, Scott winds up punching him in the face. Cassian gets punched in turn, but because he stayed on his feet, he manages to successfully pretend that it didn't hurt, which immediately ends the fight.
  • Battle Discretion Shot: Digma’s slaughter of the Rebel troopers coming to apprehend him is said to be filmed entirely as a close-up shot of Kleeshak, who is still hiding on the ship and watching it all unfold in terror.
  • Bavarian Fire Drill:
    • K-2SO tries pulling this off when encountering a TIE-fighter pilot, but he doesn’t buy it.
    • When Krennic shows up with Owen and some Stormtroopers to Jyn's cell, Cassian, dressed as a Stormtrooper himself, asks if he can leave the room to pee. The second he gets behind the two Stormtroopers, Cassian (with help from a Luck roll) proceeds to gun both down and hold Krennic at gunpoint.
    • Owen Watchreed, Krennic's short assistant, is finally taken out when two Stormtroopers enter the room and Cassian orders them to shoot him, claiming he had murdered Krennic and two other Stormtroopers.
    • In Silver City, Cassian manages to avoid getting arrested by pretending to be an undercover imperial agent.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: When trying to kill Throg, Scott practically pleads with Joz to choose immediate violence over trying to make intelligent rolls, openly asking for "the old Joz". After Throg is killed, and Paulo announces that a group of rioters had seen Jyn and Cassian do this, Jyn decides to rally the group together into a proper rebellion, much to Scott's dismay. After all, he did ask for the "old Joz"...
Scott: Here's the thing about wanting Joz: She shows up in that moments that you don't actually want her to.
    Joz: Here she is!
  • Big Damn Reunion: While separated from Bitho, Kleeshak almost got murdered by Digma, got caught up in the middle of the Empire's straffing attack on Yavin 4, took some shrapnel to the shoulder, and winds up needing to bare a terrifying trek through the collapsed Rebel base. As such, when he finally catches back up to Bitho, Kleekshak practically buries himself in his shoulder in relief. And while Bitho tries to downplay the reunion, he can't help but note how Kleeshak "[looks] like shit".
  • Bittersweet Ending: Bordering on a Downer Ending: They manage to blow up the Death Star, and it's implied Darth Vader was still on board... but only four of the main party live to see it happennote . But meanwhile, back at the rebel base on Yavin 4, we end on Khaki watching the Death Star blow up... as Digma stumbles across her in the background.
  • Blatant Lies: Once it's called to attention during the Part 6 intro that Scott appeared to be bathed in blue light in the video call, Paulo cracked that he's currently in a night club.
  • Bloody Hilarious: Kara decides to explain away the blood that resulted from K-2SO crushing the TIE Fighter pilot's corpse by claiming it was Steve's blood (who's still bleeding from his near-fatal journey into a jungle in the previous episode).
Paulo: So, you're going with the old "That was my blood" defense...
  • Bolivian Army Ending: By the end of their portion of Part 3, K-2SO winds up leaving the planet with Khaki... while Steve is left behind, and is at the mercy of the workers he pissed off in fighting them.
  • Body Horror:
  • Book Dumb: Discussed: After managing to almost roll a Crit Success on a search roll, Scott bitterly-sarcastically apologizes to Jon for "[not] going to fucking Stanford" due to misreading a 5 as a 4.
Jon: Who went to fucking Stanford?
Scott: Or wherever you went, some fucking fancy ass smart school-
Paulo: (talking over Scott; to Jon) People who can tell 5s from 4s.
  • Boring Return Journey: The journey from where Alderaan used to be to Yavin 4 mostly goes off without a hitch... until the hyperdrive breaks down and the man brought in to fix it turns out to be rather skewey.
  • Bottle Episode: In effect, Kara's portion of Part 4; since Steve got abandoned in Part 3, the Guest NPC role got loaned out due to Jon not being able to make it to the recording session, and K-2SO and Khaki managed to make it to Yavin 4 without much hassle, her portion of the episode has her by herself with Paulo. The conclusion Kara comes away from this experience is that she works better with more players to bounce off of.
  • Briar Patching: K-2SO manages to find Khaki while the latter is playing Hide and Seek in the junkyard by claiming he already found her, causing her to walk out from her hiding spot to complain.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: An indirect version: At the start of Part 6, the Empire's attack on the Yavin 4 Rebel base from the end of the previous episode causes the roof to cave in, splitting the cast into different teams with no immediate way of contacting one another.
  • Breather Episode: Kara Strait aims to make Part 2 one for her, with the simple goal of refueling the ship without getting any unwanted attention. Naturally, it instead ends with a dramatic Twist Ending where the Death of a Child is only barely avoided.
  • Broad Strokes:
    • The overall lore of the Clone Wars from later Star Wars media are used to flesh out the world — and Anakin still hated sand — but DM Paulo Quiros makes it clear that he does not consider the exact events of the prequels canon. In particular, the idea that C-3PO and R2-D2 were once Anakin’s droids is dismissed as a stupid Retcon (which , in the original series, ended up requiring some Laser-Guided Amnesia to avoid causing an outright Continuity Snarl.)
    • Darth Vader being Anakin Skywalker is shown to be well-known to the Rebel Alliance. This is certainly not the case in the Disney-era canon (which Rogue One is part of) but even just going by the Original Trilogy, his son Luke didn’t hear a word about it for three years despite working with them under his real name. There was even a Deleted Scene from A New Hope where Red Leader fondly recalls meeting Luke’s father. (Though that can be chalked up to Early-Installment Weirdness, and that specific line remained deleted for a reason, even as the rest of the scene was reinserted into the Special Edition.)
  • Bury Your Gays: Kara sadly quotes this exact trope as R2-D2 shoots off one final message to C-3PO as he fries from turning himself into a circuit breaker.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • In a bit of irony, because Andy couldn't make it for the recording in Part 5, Luke Skywalker was played by Tim Nolan, whose last appearance on the show proper was back in The Searchers.
    • Part 6 sees the return of Luisa Menzen, who last appeared in Memento, in the role of Mira Ruun.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": After Kara complains, Paulo backtracks on Steve finding plain corn and instead says that he finds near-identical vegetables called "smark."
  • Call-Back:
    • Cassian decides to (at first) treat Ollie like their own Jeff, a reference Cassian points out Ollie won't understand. He even promises him "a space Snickers".
    • Internally: During her intro in Part 7, Joz makes reference to Paulo fucking up her intro back in Part 1, which Paulo claims was "seventy episodes ago".
Joz: (in a near-slurring tone) Herler, it's Jern Erser...
    • When Paulo is announcing how the party has been divided after the ceiling collapses, Carolyn draws a parallel to the movie version of Clue by comparing the almost-arbitary way Paulo was splitting everyone up to how the party members in Clue were paired up via matching candlesticks. Scott winds up making the campaign connection by pointing out how, just like in the movie, Professor Plum got paired with Mrs. Peacocknote .
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Cassian puts part of the blame for Anakin's turn to the Dark Side on the shoulders of Obi-Wan, his former master, and isn't afraid to tell him that in person.
  • The Cameo: Because Lisa accidentally caused Obi-Wan to pick a different pilot, Chewbacca is only in the campaign for Part Two. Han Solo, meanwhile, is never actually in the episode.
  • Canon Discontinuity:
    • invoked When Obi-Wan first meets C-3PO and R2-D2, Paulo makes it clear that the prequel films aren't canon in this campaign.
    • More subtly (and perhaps incidentally), the Deleted Scene where Biggs meets with Luke on Tatooine and tells him that he’s joining the rebellion is ignored, as Luke has no idea about this until he happens to run into Biggs at the Rebel base.
  • Captive Date: A variation: The Patron agrees to provide Jyn with a ship if she goes on a date with him first.
  • Cassandra Truth: Played With. Jyn and Cassian pretend to not believe the Patron when he boasts about his ship collection, hoping that he will take them to it to ”prove them wrong.” It works.
  • Ceiling Cling: One of Kleeshak’s abilities, which makes it easier for them to hide.
  • Chameleon Camouflage: Kleeshak has the ability to alter his skin colors to blend into the enviroment. They use it to play hide and seek.
  • Cliffhanger: Part 5 ends with the base on Yavin 4 coming under siege.
  • Cliffhanger Copout: As soon as Jyn managed to kill Krennic, his short lackey proceeds to shoot at her head... which Paulo decides is a good enough point to cut away for a moment. When we cut back to this moment later on, we return on Joz successfully rolling to dodge.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Bobcat Goldthwait, the late Gilbert Gottfried and Rowan Atkinson are suggested for the Patron’s pilot, while his elderly butler is imagined as being played by John Cleese.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: At the start of their segment in Part 3, Kara winds up brieflynote  hijacking an NPC as Steve attempts to rally the workers (only to have to outrun some security guards when they break it up), and as a result creates the character of Delbar, who believes Gibad is flat, and there's a government conspiracy to mass produce fake smark.
  • Convenient Replacement Character: Once Bitho and Kleeshak leave, Jon Miller and Lisa Kopitsky instead get to play socially awkward engineer Ori Nellas and infiltration specialist (and Cassian’s ex) Trik Seldana, respectively.
  • Cooldown Hug: invoked After Jyn strangles the Stormtrooper to death, Cassian's immediate first act is to give her this. As Paulo and Joz discuss, it would make sense for Jyn to react negatively to this as, although she definitely has killed before, this is the first death that was prolonged.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: While at the space port on Gibad, trying to get the Tiramisu refueled, Lane!Steve ultimately decidesnote  to pretend to be a chef, and make space corn-based dishes to try and barter for the necessary fuel. By the end of the episode, this devolves into Steve trying to unionize the workers.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: invoked One of the planets Luke's party manages to avoid stopping at in Part 4 is Yevas, a perpetually stormy planet rumored to house a "dark cult" that sacrifices any intruders to "their ancient God of blood". After Andy expresses a mild dismay over not stopping therenote , Greg Taubman says it's okay, since Luke's party had already sacrificed Leia.
  • Cutting the Knot:
    • Cassian's original plan for escapingnote  runs into a hurdle when he stumbles across another Stormtrooper, who says Jyn "isn't ready yet", and lets it slip that Krennic is planning on cutting off her fingers. As such, Cassian pivots; he takes everyone back to the cell, and opts to wait for Krennic to show up so they can ambush him.
    • When K-2SO enters Gibad's junkyard, the guy in charge there, Gil Bert, wants to know what he's looking for; when told he's there to grab something for the Governor, Gil asks for a form in order to let him inside. Since this was a blatant lie on K-2SO's part, he just brushes him off and enters, something Gil allows due to the fact that K-2SO is a big, scary robot.
    • Almost by happenstance, K-2SO winds up finding some still-usable fuel cannisters for the Tiramisu while looking for Khaki in the junkyard.
    • Discussed: When the Patron's goon, Throg, accompanies Jyn and Cassian to go pick up Galen, Cassian tries to fast-talk him into sharing his weapons, which he pointedly refuses to do so. Scott blows this off, as he's already decided they're gonna kill Throg eventually, and so opts to wait until they can loot his corpse.
    • Inverted: When Mon Mothma starts outlining the plan from the movie to blow up the Death Starnote , Galen Erso cuts her off to point out his actual intention: Sneaking on board, and surging power through the thermal exhaust systemnote . His other idea is to take out the three escort ships that focus the main weapon via a magnetic shield; taking control of one would allow one to blow up the Death Star.
  • Cycle of Revenge: During Jyn and Cassian's fight against Krennic and Owen Watchreed, Paulo calls attention to the fact that a little girl is watching the scene play out nearby. After everything is done and dusted, Jyn and Cassian encounter the girl... and learn she was the daughter of Krennic. As Joz points out, they created a new Jyn Erso.
  • Delayed Reaction: Because Paulo hadn't yet adjusted to how he was running the campaign, it takes him a few minutes to realize he hadn't actually introduced Carolyn, Aram, and Andy when he started their part of the campaign.
  • Demoted to Extra: Played for laughs: Because Jyn and Cassian's portion of Part 3 involves traversing the underground slums of Silver City, an environment Jyn was more accustomed to, Scott and Paulo keep pointing out that Jyn Erso became the star of the episode.
    Cassian: I'm helping!
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Literally: When Luke's crew briefly stops at Fo'Lunké, a large banking planet, Luke makes a point of flipping the planet off before they leave.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In Rogue One, Director Krennic was among the people who died on Scarif when the Death Star blew it up. In the Rogue One campaign, he instead left with Jyn and Cassian, holding them captive off-planet... only to meet his end here when Jyn (who had been shackled) garroted him with the chains on her cuffs, and ultimately wound up breaking his neck.
  • Disaster Dominoes: After the first episode of the campaign, Luke's party manages to keep finding more and more ways to fuck up the plot of A New Hope: Lisa accidentally causes Obi-Wan to pick a blatant con-man to act as their pilot, they wind up arriving at Alderaan in the middle of its destruction, they accidentally manage to avoid saving Princess Leia, and they wind up letting a serial killer on board their ship upon landing near a prison planet.
  • Discontinuity Nod:
  • Distinction Without a Difference: After Bitho demands an increased payment in exchange for taking Luke's group to Yavin 4 after Alderaan blows up, Luke tells him that he's had to haggle in the past, and proceeds to negotiate the price... which boils down to agreeing to pay him what he wants, but only if he takes them to Yavin 4 right away.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: invoked The Rerollers speculate that maybe the real reason R2 and C-3PO were not allowed in the cantina was that there would have been no practical way for the actors to descend the stairs in their droid costumes. This leads to a joke about the actual worst part of the cantina being that it isn’t wheelchair accessible, but the Rerollers quickly change the subject when they realize what this would imply about the In-Universe anti-droid discrimination...
  • Down in the Dumps: K2 ends up having to play hide and seek with Khaki at a scrapyard. This actually works out quite well, as he manages to find some still usable hyperspace fuel while there.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • When Jyn and Cassian decide to try and find a smuggler pilot in the tavern they come across, Scott makes it clear they need to try and avoid giving them any information about the Rebel Alliance, lest they sell them out. Unbeknownst to Scott, Andy's group have failed to follow said logic in hiring Bitho Parras; in fact, Obi-Wan only winds up starting to regret hiring him when he realizes they let him know about Yavin 4.
    • As Paulo points out, every time they did the Death Star scene in their liveshows, the cast would try to avoid getting captured, only to fail, but here, they did so without realizing it.
    • During the intro for Part 7, Paulo calls to attention the fact the episodes for this campaign are "too long", and they need to cut to the chase this time. As Paulo winds up admitting in the outro, this was meant to be the final episode... but because it wound up being four hours long, they had to split it.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: In Part 6, all non-droid members of the infiltration team (including General Draven, Jyn Erso and Obi-Wan Kenobi) disguise themselves as Imperial officers. Their disguises are apparently not that great, but good enough to pass a cursory glance.
  • Drinking on Duty: The unconscious man that Cassian and Jyn discover in their cell, Ollie, turns out to be one of Krennic's chefs. He was dumped into one of the cells because he drank too much during a work day, and blacked out.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: When Scott is working out the "infiltrate the Death Star" plan, he mentions how Jyn and Cassian would obviously be the ones to do so, as they're "the Dynamic Duo" as per Rogue One... much to Kara's annoyance, as K-2SO was in their group:
Kara: "Dynamic Duo"?! There were three people in that movie!
  • Due to the Dead: After taking a moment to properly mourn the deaths of his aunt and uncle, Luke decides to have them buried before he goes off on his journey (a task that Obi-Wan has C-3PO do).
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: By the end of the campaign, about two-thirds of the way into the eighth episode, Lisa is given Princess Leia to play.
  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Kleeshak normally speaks in broken Basic, but his conversations with C-3PO are rendered (through Translation Convention) as perfect English.
  • Escort Mission: Cassian and Jyn have to smuggle Galen Erso to the Silver City in the hopes of bringing him to the Rebel Alliance (initially under the guise of saving him from said alliance.)
  • Evolving Credits: Part 3 introduces a new version of the theme song, a cover that sounds more electronic hard rock-ish.
  • Exact Words: Upon meeting Khaki, all Jyn and Cassian are told is that she’s really good at picking up coffee cups. Understandably, they just think that sounds cute, not realizing that she’s using telekinetic powers to do so.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Variation: As Luke and Obi-Wan make their way back to Luke's farm, they pass by the Sandcrawler that the Jawas had driven, only to realize it has been burned and destroyed. However, neither Luke or Obi-Wan fully realize the implications of this, and head on to the farm, only to see it similarly destroyed.
  • Fake Twin Gambit: Digma’s twin brother is pretty blatantly Digma himself. It seems more like something he does as a lark and/or a side-effect of his long isolation than a legitimate attempt at tricking anybody, though.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • R2-D2 having a voice actor means he gets pissed over being forced out of Mos Eisley, and Obi-Wan deciding to not fix the situation via the Jedi Mind Trick. Chewbacca, knowing what it's like to be socially stigmatized, follows after him and C-3PO.
    • Meanwhile, R2-D2 thinks Chewbacca is a giant bear, and Kleeshak is a crocodile.
  • Fingore: As a Stormtrooper lets slip, Krennic's next plan for trying to break Galen after having Jyn held at gunpoint was to have Jyn's fingers cut off one at a time, and show them to him.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Luke ends up bonding with Mira as they make their way through the caved-in Rebel base.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Paulo and Kara bring up how strange it is that the Jedi are Shrouded in Myth when the prequels showed them to have been a massive power a mere two decades earlier. (Arguably something of a Franchise Original Sin, as even in the first film, every Jedi mentioned had been a major player in an armed conflict.)
  • Foreshadowing: The shift in the plot that occurs in Part 5 is alluded to from the jump, thanks in part to the episode's description:
  • Freakiness Shame: Khaki makes it clear that people have looked down on her in the past because of her Force powers, and the Rebels freaking out after seeing her turn invisible only cement this further for her. K-2 in turn gives her a heartfelt pep talk, telling her to never be ashamed of who she is.
  • Freak Out: Luke, in refusing to accept that his father had become Darth Vader, attempts to flee the council room, only to struggle with the locked door and, due to Cassian continuing to bad mouth Darth Vader's actions, proceeds to take a swing at him.
  • Friendly Fire: As Joz crows, Owen Watchreed (who somehow dodged four blaster shots) was finally killed with this thanks to a random Stormtrooper.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Variation: As Cassian and Jyn are leaving Krennic's summer home with Galen, Jyn is forced to accept the fact she's leaving her Kaiber crystal behind (as it was taken from her once she was captured)... only for Galen to suddenly stir awake, and woozily recount a dream he had of what clearly is implied to be her taking on Darth Vader with her own lightsaber. As such, Joz and Scott wind up having an extended discussion over whether or not to let Jyn double back for the crystal; Scott is more than willing to let her go, but Joz thinks Jyn wouldn't want to leave her father before making sure he's okay. Ultimately, they agree to make their decision after getting Galen medical attention.note
  • From Bad to Worse: While Luke's camp was varying degrees of upset over Aldreaan's destruction, Paulo winds up making things worse by announcing they accidentally abandoned Leia to die on the Death Star.
  • Funny Background Event: Because he buys R2-D2 outright here instead of the other droid, the red droid with the bad motivator is shown exploding in the background as Luke leaves.
  • Genre Savvy:
    • Krennic's attempt at using Jyn to get information out of Galen fails because, as much as the sight of his long-lost daughter having a gun to her head distresses him, he knows it would be a Catch-22 Dilemma: Either he says nothing, and Jyn is killed, or he talks, and Jyn is killed. Jyn being alive is Krennic's only bargaining chip.
    • Unlike Brandon, Kara immediately clocks that Paulo was going to spring a monster encounter on either K-2SO or Steve if they were to go into a nearby alien forest.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: In order to calm Khaki down when she starts freaking out over sensing Alderaan's destruction, K-2SO firmly shakes her, and demands that she acts "like a big girl, and not a whiney little baby".
  • Give Me a Sign: After seeing the full of Leia's message, Luke wonders aloud if the "Obi-Wan" she mentioned is actually "Old Ben Kenobi" that he met before. R2-D2 clocks that, and realizes that he and C-3PO were meant to meet Luke in order to find Obi-Wan.
R2-D2: We were lead here on purpose, it's like the Force, or some shit!
  • Given Name Reveal:
    • In Part 2, Lane Moore reveals that Steve’s last name is Parkins.
    • In Part 4, just by looking around the Patron's ship, Jyn manages to spot the registration, and gets his real name: Dandan Jotha.
  • Good Name For A Rock Band: “Oompa Loompa Tractor Beam is the name of my band.”
  • Gone Horribly Right: Due to Bitho's ship, the Phantom, being better than the Millennium Falcon, and some good rolls, Luke's camp manages to avoid getting captured by the Death Star. On a completely unrelated note, Princess Leia never gets rescued from the Death Star, and might get put to death.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: Upon waking up in the Jawas' Sandcrawler, a failed Fright Check results in C-3PO getting a quirk of, when frightened, abruptly switching to a different language setting for 30 seconds. Carolyn chooses to embrace this by having C-3PO freak out in faux-Italian:
C-3PO: (panicking) Pasta, italiana, pasta, rigatoni, bombolone, oooooh, R2-D2!
  • Hand Signals: Chewbacca’s uses these to communicate with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then it’s revealed that Kenobi spoke his language all along...
  • Happy Ending Override: Downplayed: During the Sequel Hook Paulo gave at the end of the prior campaign, he made it clear that K-2SO managed to get the Death Star's plans to Leia without hassle. At the start of this campaign, however, he clarifies: While they were successfully transmitted in time, K-2SO doesn't know for sure due to the possibility that the ship that received them got blown up during the current space battle.
  • Harmful to Minors: Discussed: Before everyone begins their assault on the Death Star, K-2SO requests that Khaki be left behind on Yavin 4 so she won't be in the middle of this. General Draven agrees... but makes it clear that the planet will still be at risk if they fail, something Kara is not happy to hear.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Upon realizing he didn't have enough time to fix a critical cable on the escort ship in order to get the magnetic sheild back up, R2-D2 slots himself into the gap to act as a circuit breaker.
  • Hiding Behind the Language Barrier: At one point, R2-D2 exploits the fact that humans can't speak binary to directly insult Obi-Wan and Luke to their faces, and justifies it to C-3PO when he complains:
R2-D2: (to C-3PO) It's like talking to a dog, you use the right voice, and they don't care- look, watch, I'll make some cute little boops. (to Luke) Boop boop, you're a fucker and I hope you die, boopity beep!
  • Honor Before Reason: When the ceiling collapses, Jyn decides to shield K-2SO and R2-D2 from the rubble, even though she is an easily crushable human, and they are tough robots.
  • Human Shield: A double example. Jyn uses Krenric as a human shield against Owen, who then uses the two of them as one against Cassian.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Inverted: Cassian delivers this to Jyn as a means of comfort while giving her a hug after she strangles the Stormtrooper to death.
  • Ignored Expert: Variation: When R2-D2 decides to check Bitho's calculations to see if he fucked up and took them to an asteroid field instead of Alderaan, Bitho uses his cybernetics to send R2-D2 a series of chat messages telling him that his calculations were done perfectly... which R2-D2 keeps closing.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: Digma’s behavior toward Kleeshak during his attempted murder of the latter just reeks of this, which Lisa Kopitsky finds quite disturbing.
  • Immediate Sequel: Just like A New Hope was with Rogue One, the campaign picks up right at the end of the prior campaign, with K-2SO and Steve attempting to flee Scarif with the Death Star plans (as they have no way of knowing the ship that recieved them survived).
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy:
    • Cassian Andor and Owen Watchreed keep shooting at each other within close quarters without either of them hitting their target. Ironically, the fight ends with an actual Imperial Stormtrooper taking out Owen with a single shot.
    • In Part Two, it's joked that the Stormtroopers' infamous poor aim was in part because Meta put VR technology into their helmets.
    • In Part Four, the two local revolutionaries who join up Cassian and Jyn fail to land a shot on the Patron until he lies unconscious on the ground (by which point they both pepper him with blaster bolts) and nearly hit their own allies. Before bidding farewell, Cassian outright tells them to improve their aim.
  • Implausible Deniability:
    • Upon discovering Owen and Beru's charred corpses, Luke briefly tries to argue they could've been anyone's charred corpses. He gives up before he can even finish his sentence.
    • Cassian manages to pin the blame for Krennic's death on his assistant, Owen Watchreed... even though there would clearly be chain marks on his throat from Jyn strangling him. Likewise, after they realize Krennic's daughter saw them get her dad killed, Cassian pins the blame on the assistant, even though she definitely saw how her dad died.
  • Improvised Imprisonment: As it eventually is made clear, Director Krennic has decided to turn his summer home into a jail for the purposes of holding Jyn and Cassian, and to interrogate Galen.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • R2-D2 accidentally playing the entire message for Luke causes him and C-3PO to realize "the cat's out of the bag" and that Luke is now getting roped into their mission.
    • A pretty big one occurs during Part 5: When everyone is gathered in the council chamber, Luke bringing up his dad causes Mon Mothma to point blank ask who that would be. When Obi-Wan attempts to cut Luke off when he tries to explain, Mon Mothma presses the matter... forcing Obi-Wan to admit to everyone in the room that Luke is a Skywalker, and forcing Luke to learn that, yes, his father is Darth Vader.
    • During the same meeting, Lysa Fleef, a psychic member of the council, reveals that there are three Force sensitive children present. None of them were in any way aware of each other, and not even the players (aside from Kara Strait) knew about Khaki’s powers.
  • In the Back: Cassian shoots Throg in this manner. He does however survive the attack, meaning that Jyn has to distract him so that Cassian can finish him off, dropping a Bond One-Liner in the process.
Cassian: Throg, Throg, Throg... we hardly knew ye.
  • I Need A Drink: As the weight of witnessing Alderaan's distruction starts to bare down on everyone as The Phantom makes its way to Yavin 4, Bitho decides to extend an olive branch to Obi-Wan and make some drinks for the two of them, allowing them to bond somewhat.
  • In Spite of a Nail: The first big change in C-3PO and R2-D2’s story is that the two of them are never seperated, but as they were quickly reunited in the movie anyway, this has little impact on the plot.
  • Job-Stealing Robot: The space dock worker Lane!Steve strikes up a conversation with makes a one-off comment about droids taking people’s jobs. Kara Strait — playing one such droid (who is not actually in the scene) — takes some offense to this comment.
  • Joke and Receive: As K-2SO enters a junkyard to try and find Khaki, Mason admits he's itching to hijack an NPC, specifically "Dil Bert", the "head of the junkyard", something Kara wishes he avoids, as she wants the junkyard to be abandoned to make things easier. So naturally, Paulo has K-2SO run into Gil Bert.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Shortform: Although he doesn't realize it, Luke briefly toys with diving into the Dark Side of the Force in order to avenge the deaths of his uncle and aunt.
  • Kick the Dog:
  • Killer Rabbit: The critters K-2SO and Steve run into in the forest on Gibad. They are small and goofy-looking, but they turn out to be carnivorous and there are a lot of them. Steve just barely escapes within an inch of his life thanks to K-2SO pulling a Big Damn Heroes moment with his spaceship.
  • Lampshade Hanging: While panicking over Princess Leia's ship being attacked, C-3PO calls R2-D2 out for having "a different voice". Paulo eventually decides (due to Carolyn failing a Fright Check) that C-3PO briefly forgot he could understand binary.
  • Last Words: Discussed: After it's decided that Delbar's last words were "I am the Porridge King!", Mason decides to steal that for his own last words when he inevitably dies.
  • Leave the Camera Running: invoked When Jyn decides to use her chains to choke the Stormtrooper acting as her and Cassian's prison guard to death, Paulo narrates that the camera holds on this for a full 90 seconds as the Stormtrooper slowly dies.
  • Les Collaborateurs: The Patron is revealed to have been a former member of the local rebels, who betrayed his allies to the Empire, leading to their loss at Crescent Creek. As it turns out, this means that many of the locals want to get revenge of the man.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Subverted. R2 suggests trying to harness the power of the atmospheric storms at the Penal Colony to jumpstart the hyperdrive, but this is deemed too risky.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • Cassian makes a point to Obi-Wan to call attention to Luke's outburst of violence, mention how the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
    • When Galen is giving his overtly technical explanation for taking out the Death Star, Paulo has everyone roll IQ to keep up with him. Jyn gets a Crit Success.
  • Living Lie Detector: Beepo, the doctor Jyn and Cassian find for Galen in Silver City, is revealed to be a Bramkahn, a lightly-psychic species that knows when someone is lying.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • When Cassian demands that Betara prove she's being serious about supporting the Rebel Alliance, she tells him how her father was part of the Servants of the Sparrow and wound up dying at Crescent Creek... which completely flies over Cassian's head, but opts to pretend to know.
    • invoked Carolyn (and Paulo) winds up learning the hard way through Andy that "jazz" is called something else in Star Wars.
    • Unlike in A New Hope, Obi-Wan manages to feel the distrubance in the Forcenote  moments before The Phantom exits out of Hyperspace... just in time to catch the aftermath of Alderaan's destruction. In fact, it takes the crew a couple moments to even realize they arrived at (what used to be) Alderaan.
    • Until Kara explicitly stated "smark" was a root vegetable, Mason had no idea what they were talking about.
      • This can summarize Mason's entire go as Steve, as (per Lane's own prediction from the end of Part 2) he is basically thrown into the deep end of the pool and has to piece together what the hell Steve was meant to be doing from last time.
    • Averted when C-3PO is determined with the help of a roll to know where the Yavin 4 base is. He very much should, as even going purely by Rogue One and A New Hope, he and R2 are clearly shown to be at that base in the former.
    • When Paulo narrates how Kleeshak is watching Digma getting into a melee with a group of armed Rebels, Kara interrupts the scene to point out she has no bearing on the situation:
Kara: This is... this is gibberish to me, by the way.
    • When Luke tries to explain to the council who his dad isnote , Cassian flipping out over Obi-Wan bringing a Skywalker to Yavin 4 results in Luke learning his dad is Darth Vader.
  • Loophole Abuse: Discussed: Paulo asking for a Perception roll for Jyn to understand what kind of attack is happening to the Rebel base results in a Crit Fail, causing Kara to conclude that she and Aram could realistically cheat off of this just by taking what Paulo is about to say that roll means, and believing the opposite. So, naturally, Paulo announces Jyn spots a second moon, which obviously means the Death Star is here.
  • Long-Lived: Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is himself getting on in years, claims that Lysa Fleef is "older than any of us." It’s possibly implied that her species has a longer lifespan than most humans.
  • Long Runner:
    • Ultimately, the campaign ran for half a year, lasted eight parts, is roughly twenty-two hours long.
    • Played for laughs: Luisa Menzen's genuine question about how this campaign ends causes Paulo to crack that, because he didn't include an ending mechanic, they're going to be doing this campaign forever.
  • Look Behind You: Cassian uses this against a stormtrooper. It works, and the trooper gets shot dead for his troubles.
  • Lost Forever: invoked Discussed: When Khaki starts tearing apart the Tiramisu with the Force upon sensing Alderaan's destruction, Paulo announces to Kara that she wound up destroying the ship's main computer, effectively destroying the copy of the Death Star plans that was on board. While it was made clear at the start of the campaign that Leia got the plans, and gave them to R2-D2, both Kara and K-2SO still don't know that yet.
  • Lying to Protect Your Feelings: After managing to calm Khaki down, K-2SO asks if she wants to fly the ship with him, which causes her to notice that one of the pilot's chairs are now missing. Not wanting to have her realize she had flung it during her Force freakout, K-2SO just says he decided they didn't need it, and allows Khaki to sit in his lap.
  • Makes Just as Much Sense in Context: invoked Discussed: As Paulo is wrapping up Part 2, Lane realizes then and there that the next person to play Steve is going to be completely lost due to her actions in this partnote .
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Luke manages to navigate his way through the dark tunnels beneath the Yavin 4 temple even though the lights have gone out. It’s left ambiguous whether the Force showed him the way or if he just has a good sense of direction.
  • Mama Bear: The second Paulo announces that the "movie" is ending on Digma stumbling across Khaki on Yavin 4, Kara loudly screams "I'LL KILL YOU!". Whether it's directed to Digma or to Paulo is up to interpretation.
  • Merging the Branches: Part 5 has all three groups arriving at Yavin 4, meaning that not only do the players get to record together after being seperated for all four previous episodes, it also allows the main characters of Rogue One to actually meet up with the cast of A New Hope, something sadly impossible in canon.
  • Mood Whiplash: Jyn and Cassian’s story is pretty much a What If? sequel to Rogue One, with the film’s Darker and Edgier tone intact. By contrast, Luke and the droids’s story is basically a (increasingly altered) retelling of A New Hope, while K-2SO and Steve’s story is an action-packed romp through misadventures of a bickering pair of rebels.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Out of everyone in Luke's camp, Aram was the most upset to realize they forgot to save Leia.
Aram: No, you don't understand. You don't understand. As a homosexual man, I have broken honor code by not saving Leia. This is- this going to reflect badly on me as a person.
    • Downplayed: Even though he still has some anamosity towards him, the moment Luke realizes Cassian was already signifiantly roughed up, and he still punched him in anger, he sobers up and quietly takes a chair as far away from the rest of the group as he could.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • One of the Stormtroopers hits his head on a descending door, referencing a famous Blooper from the film.
    • Cassian “borrows” a line from Luke when he and Jyn rescue Galen.
Cassian: I’m Cassian Andor. I’m here to rescue you.
    • After R2-D2 gets a Crit Success on Computer Operations with Bitho's ship in regards to Alderaan's "location", Paulo informs him that just a bit away from the sudden asteroid field...

    N-Z
  • Newspaper Dating: A roundabout example: Paulo winds up dating when Kara and Mason were recording their portion of Part 3 when he brings up Dilbert getting removed from the comic strips "yesterday".note
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • When Cassian's party enters the kitchen in Part 2, the moment he takes notice of Betara, he (still pretending to be a Stormtrooper) outs her as having taken part in the battle at Crescent Creek, and tries to get her to help them move Galen out of the building. Because of Paulo failing an IQ roll, all this does is cause Betara to realize she was called out for being a Rebel, and bails.
    • Thanks to Lane's go as Steve in Part 2note , Mason was effectively set up for failure in Part 3: When two guards show up to break up the scene, Steve attacks them and flees, causing him to try and steal hyperspace fuel from a nearby cargo ship. As such, not only does Steve winds up attracting a ton of negative attention, but as he was away from the Tiramisu for so long, when K-2SO makes it back with fuel of his own (and Khaki), he opts to leave instead of waiting for him to come back; and as Paulo makes it clear, Steve is most definitely getting arrested.
  • No Biological Sex: Kleeshak’s species reproduces asexually, but are still capable of identifying more with a specific gender.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Paulo's attempt at doing Gilbert Gottfried lasts four words before Paulo pulls off hard into the ditch:
Paulo: (as Gilbert Gottfried) THE LAST TIME I- (mortified; normally) Nope. Apparently I can't... [...] Uh, okay, so y-y-you don't know if you can do a voice until you try it!
  • Non-Action Guy: Kleeshak abnors violence and is terrified when Rebel troopers rush onto the Phantom with guns drawn.
  • No-Sell:
  • Not in This for Your Revolution:
    • Beepo almost doesn’t let Jyn and Cassian in when they tell him that they’re working for the Rebel Alliance, only relenting when they promise that they’re not bringing the war to his planet.
    • Also Bitho Parras, who, once he’s given (the currently MIA) Mon Mothma’s luxurious ship as payment, only gives Cassian’s team a lift before getting the hell out of the system. Kleeshak considers staying, but ultimately goes with Bitho.
  • Not What It Looks Like:
    • When Brandon falls for Paulo's trap and causes Steve to run afoul of a swarm of alien birds, he just assumes Paulo did that so Steve could be written out early on, and he doesn't have to worry about repeatedly recasting the character every episode.
    • Thanks to the way the ship inspector talks to K-2SO when the Tiramisu docks on Gibad, Lane assumes K-2SO is about to sleep with that man, a theory Kara herself agrees with.
  • Of Corpse He's Alive: After stealing the armor of the Stormtrooper Jyn strangled to death, Cassian later dresses the Stormtrooper up in his clothes, and sets him up in his cell to make it look like he's sleeping.
  • Oh, Crap!: Bitho's ship exits out of Hyperspace right in the middle of Alderaan's destruction, and as such the crew needs to immediately dodge asteroids.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname:
    • Downplayed: Bitho Parras prefers to refer to Kleeshak by "Pipsqueak".
    • The Governor's daughter says her name is "Khakumo", but then admits everyone calls her "Khaki".
  • Only One Name: In Part 5, Leena claims to have no surname other than ”the Tinmaker’s Daughter”.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: invoked Kara openly acknowledges that K-2SO apologizing to Khaki for her extreme "nightmare" (in reality, her seeing the destruction of Alderaan through the Force) isn't in line with the droid's character, but she and Paulo both decide to run with it as a sign of Character Development.
  • Original Character: Kleeshak Varshon is a unique example, as Lisa winds up being the one to (literally) create himnote ; he's described as being a very short, green individual with big ears and droopy antennae. She further elaborates in Part 3, explaining he's a "mash-up" of Randall and Stitch.
  • Oh, Crap!: When cleaning R2-D2, Luke accidentally triggers part of the secret message Leia had recorded, like in A New Hope. But when this causes R2-D2 to start panicking and try and stop the message, a Crit Fail on Aram's part means it plays in full.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping:
    • Because of the circumstances at play with Steve, it's basically a given that he's going to have multiple different takes on his voice during the campaignnote :
      • Scott had previously played him as Brooklyn, while Brandon played him as Southern.
      • Lane More winds up exaggerating this in Part 2; she basically decides to change up Steve's accent in every scene he's in based on her mood. At one point, he gets extremely Cockney.
      • Mason Konrad, meanwhile, makes him sound like James Bond.
    • When first trying to calm Khaki down in Part 4, Kara briefly forgets how to do the K-2SO voicenote , before disregarding it as an issue.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • invoked In the past, the crew has done sections of A New Hope for liveshows. However, they use a different casting; Jon Miller would play Obi-Wan, Scott would play Han Solo, and Andy would play Chewbacca.
    • Within the campaign itself, Steve is voiced by a different player in all three episodes he appears in (Brandon Tyler Harris, Lane More and Mason Konrad) all of them replacing Scott Aiello, who originated the role.
    • After Steve gets arrested, Bitho (played by Greg Taubman) becomes the Guest-Star Party Member of Episode 4, as Jon Miller couldn’t make it to the session.
    • Similarly, Tim winds up playing Luke Skywalker in Part 5 due to Andy having a scheduling conflict.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Variation: K-2SO winds up learning about Alderaan's destruction when Khaki does, when she abruptly wakes up screaming, and starts wrecking the ship with the Force.
  • Papa Bear: K-2SO very much wants to avoid dragging Khaki into the assault on the Death Star.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise:
    • Lane!Steve’s improvised chef outfit amounts to a random long coat with a towel around his head. This ends up being somewhat of a blessing in disguise, as Gibad is enough of a colorful locale for him to get away with it, and it makes it harder for the authorities to tell who actually instigated the union.
    • After being recast with Mason Conrad, Steve ditches his chef uniform and tries to impersonate an engineer by rubbing oil on his face. The guards don’t buy it for a second.
  • Parental Neglect: A major reason why K-2SO was able to successfully kidnap Khaki and take her off Gibad is the fact that the Governor, by Paulo's own admission, is a bad dad. For example, Khaki explained to K-2SO that the last time she played Hide and Seek with her dad, she hid for nine hours, all the while he stayed at his desk.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite his previous frustrations with the Rebels, Bitho Parras willingly heals some of Cassian’s injuries once he finally does get paid.
  • Percussive Maintenance: Upon being let on-board the Phantom in order to fix the hyperdrive, Digma ultimately fixes it by kicking it.
  • Percussive Pickpocket: Done by Cassian to steal a lockpick from the unconsious Ollie, the goal here being to take it and communicate his plan to Jyn with Hand Signals without the Stormtrooper guarding the cell noticing.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Joz and Scott describe Jyn and Cassian as being a "platonic life couple", due to having no romantic interest in each other.
  • Playing Possum: Ori’s plan, which Cassian eventually agrees to, amounts to having the team all don spacesuits, pretend to be spacejunk, and thus get taken in through the Death Star’s automatic raw material collection system. However, they all have to lie completely still lest they be incinerated by a laser beam, which is what happens to one unfortunate Rebel.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Discussed: At the top of Jyn and Cassian's part of the campaign, Paulo makes it clear things are at a precarious moment. Namely, if Director Krennic manages to get Galen Erso to break and reveal the flaw in the Death Star's design, that immediately undoes all the hard work it took to get the plans in the first place, and effectively means the Rebels are doomed. Luckily, the second Jyn is able to get her hands on him, she manages to break his neck.
    • Discussed: When R2-D2 and C-3PO try and shut down enough of their systems to try and prevent themselves from being detected by the Jawas, Paulo makes it clear that if it works, their part of the campaign is immediately going to derail hard from A New Hope. (Un)fortunately, C-3PO fails to do so in time, meaning they still get caught.
    • Because R2-D2 managed to accidentally play the entirety of Leia's message in front of Luke, Luke is convinced to take both droids to Obi-Wan Kenobi a day early than originally. However, he winds up spending the night at Obi-Wan's hut, meaning that by the time they leave to head back to Luke's farm, the plot more-or-less re-synchronizes.
    • Because Chewbacca left the bar before Obi-Wan could find him (as Chewbacca was the one to introduce him in the movie), Han Solo gets replaced in the campaign with Bitho Parras.
    • The only reason why Luke's group managed to avoid getting captured by the Empire and taken to the Death Star is because the TIE Fighters that were sent out to investigate the asteroid field Crit Failed their search roll. And as a side effect, Leia is almost certainly going to die.
  • Posthumous Sibling: Kleeshak is shown mourning the death of their sister by literally staring off into space, half of their body temporarily losing color to represent the loss they are feeling.
  • Put on a Bus: After getting the Tiramisu fueled up for hyperspace, Kara winds up being forced to leave Steve behind on Gibad due to the fact that she couldn't find any way to justify having K-2SO wait for him to get back to the ship. Paulo cracks that finding Steve will be the plot of Rogue Three.
  • Race Against the Clock: Unbeknowst to Steve, after managing to fight his way past an angry mob of workers and guards, he has to run back toward the Tiramisu before K-2SO leaves with it... and only makes it to the landing bay in time to see the ship take off.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Variation: After Cassian gets the jump on Krennic, Jyn is more than happy to just leave her cell to brawl him... but after Joz succeeds an IQ roll, Paulo announces to Jyn that Krennic was the one who killed her mother. As such, with some prompting from Scott, Jyn opts to instead garrote Krennic to death, culminating in a Neck Snap.
Joz: (calmly) Oh, he's dead. He's dead.
    • After the Rebel base gets attacked, and seeing how badly roughed up Kleeshak got, the second he spots C-3PO with Cassian and Galen, Bitho goes the fuck off, and starts yelling about wanting his payment.
    • After seeing him openly refuse to help heal Cassian, being repeatedly ignored when trying to talk to him about the situation, and getting called "Gold Bond" one too many times, C-3PO snaps and outright calls Bitho a dickhead. And, in case you thought Carolyn wasn't actually getting pissed off, even though Scott tried letting it go, Carolyn openly tries to get C-3PO to hack Bitho, something Scott almost-frantically talks her out of.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: Justified: When Cassian is telling the two people who had helped him and Jyn get Galen to the Patron's shipnote  to leave Throg's guns behind, Scott does an acting roll in order to pull out his gun subtly, and wave it around to "gesture" with it, just so that he could shoot the Patron without him realizing.
  • Remembered Too Late: Early on in the campaign, it's brought to light that Paulo gave Steve a usage of Luck. This is only brought back up in Part 3 after Mason winds up failing a critical roll that would've let Steve get back to the Tiramisu in time before K-2SO left with it.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: Jyn decides to take advantage of the fact that the group of rioting citizens in Silver City saw her and Cassian murder Throg to rally everyone into a collective rebellion against the Empire. This has the secondary benefit of getting the Patron killed.
  • Riddle for the Ages: invoked In-universe: Because Chewbacca and R2-D2 were unable to actually communicate to each other, all Chewbacca can donote  is gently pat R2-D2 on the top of his dome, before leaving. Everyone then remarks that the audience for this version of the movie would be debating for years about what the hell was actually going on in this scene.
  • Robosexual: While Paulo insists that it wasn’t intended that way, Lane and Kara still feel that the ship inspector who wanted K2 to ”be put to good use” really comes across like one.
  • Robot Buddy: Aside from the obligatory R2-D2, C-3PO and K-2SO, there is also Mira’s astromech droid Spotchy, and ”Kleeshak 2”, the droid Luke constructs in time for the trench run. He calls it Two-Eee (2E?) for short.
  • Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies: Discussed and inverted: When Part 6 opens on the ceiling of the Rebel base's council chamber caving in, Paulo quickly makes it clear that he isn't immediately killing off all the player characters, but rather splitting the party.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: In-Universe, Cassian’s fake backstory for his undercover persona involves him being a former racer who was dishonorably discharged after some incident not elaborated upon.
  • Rooting for the Empire: invoked Inverted: Out of everyone, Paulo was the most frustrated with the fact that Krennic's assistant kept dodging Cassian's blaster shots. It reached the point where he was glad his two Stormtrooper NPCs managed to kill him.
  • Running Gag: Every episode has a different subtitle follow "Rogue Two" in the titlenote ; for simplicity, and due to the nature of the campaign's narrative, the trope page uses the first subtitle.
  • Running Gag Stumbles: Jon doing the "wretched hive" line in his Obi-Wan voice causes Andy to try and do the Star Wars version of the "Miles away" gag, only to not really know how distance works in this universenote .
  • Sadistic Choice:
    • After K-2SO winds up getting fuel for the Tiramisu on his own, Kara finds herself with a dilemma once it's clear Steve hadn't gotten back to the ship yet: She doesn't want to leave Steve behind on Gibad, but she doesn't think K-2SO cares, nor can she justify making him care.
    • Upon realizing that Digma is a serial killer, Andy's group winds up spending an extended period of time wondering what the hell to do with him, with the two avenues being either bringing him to Yavin 4 (with the possibility of giving him a retrial), or just killing him.
    • Not sadistic as much as regretful, but Obi-Wan, faced with three potential students, claims that he can only train one of them to become a Jedi.
  • Sanity Slippage: When Cassian finds himself trying to get Bitho to help heal his own wounds, only to be effectively held up for credits, Scott tries to roll Diplomacy... and Crit Fails. As such, Scott decides to have this play out... by having Cassian abruptly sob, start singing "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen"note , and then cough up blood.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • After realizing that the Death Star is about to fire on Scariff, K-2SO and Steve immediately leave the planet and head to Gibad.
    • A somewhat more minor example happens when they get to the planet and K-2SO insists on leaving the forest and looking for civilization, which turns out to be a very good idea.
    • The Patron’s pilot, who just books it when Jyn and Cassian take over the ship after killing his boss.
    • Upon arriving at Yavin 4, fully understanding that Digma has holed up somewhere within the Phantom, Bitho pointedly decides to get off the ship, and let the armed Rebels deal with him, under the pretense that he's a potential Rebel recruit.
    • After the attack on the base concludes in Part 6, Bitho and Kleekshak leave the plot at the first opportunity. After all, their job is done.
  • Self-Deprecation: Accidental: After Mason is informed that Steve was last seen trying to rally the workers at Gibad's spaceport, Mason picks right up from there by saying the workers need to come together, citing the abysmal porridge they have to eat under the current regime... which causes Paulo to quickly point out that Steve made that porridge, causing him to quickly pivot and blame the ingredients he had used.
  • Serious Business: After Andy makes a (by his own admission) lazy joke about how "Jar Jar" was a popular boy's name in 2008, Jon flips out and repeatedly calls that out for being false.
Jon: What? No, it was not. That is a lie. That is a lie. That is a dirty lie-
Andy: (cutting Jon off) That is a joke. A lie told in fun is a joke.
  • Shoot the Fuel Tank: Mason!Steve threatens to shoot a hyperspace fuel canister with his blaster gun. He admits to not actually knowing if this will make it explode, but the guards threatening him don’t know either, and aren’t willing to take the risk.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shutting Up Now: After Krennic and his men are dead, Cassian proceeds to take Jyn out of the cell, under the guise of (still being a Stormtrooper) wanting to move her to the interrogation room. But before he does, he makes a point of locking eyes with Ollie and making a throat-slitting gesture; Ollie, fully understanding the implications, opts to just quietly eat his food.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: The original film already had C-3PO call R2-D2 out on his (supposedly) foul language, and Aram Vartian takes this idea and runs with it.
  • Sixth Ranger: As Cassian and Jyn are about to leave with Galen following the death of the Patron, they manage to talk one of the revolutionaries who had helped them, Leela Plunkie, into coming with them to Yavin 4.
  • Skewed Priorities: The two revolutionaries who keep shooting the Patron long after he’s dead even though his bodyguard is still alive and currently trying to choke out their newfound leader Cassian.
  • Slow-Motion Drop: After Steve causes Delbar to get killed in a haze of laser fire, Mason narrates that there's a shot of Steve's "chef" hatnote  slowly falling to the ground a la (as Kara puts it) American Beauty.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Part 5 has K-2SO meeting with C-3PO and R2-D2. That this would happen is perhaps all but unavoidable.
  • Something We Forgot:
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
  • Special Guest:
    • A new mechanic introduced in this campaign is the Guest NPC, a character given to a guest star to play for one episode; in this case, it's returning Original Character Steve. While this has happened before due to actor availability, this is the first time it has been implemented by design. The first "Steve" in the campaign is Brandon Tyler Harris.
  • Spoiled by the Format: In the cast listing for the second episode, while Lisa is credited as playing Chewbacca, Jon is credited as playing Bitho Parras... even though they say he's playing Han Solo at the start of the episode. That is the immediate tell that something goes wrong at Mos Eisley.
  • Spotting the Thread:
  • Spy Speak:
    • Cassian’s status report to the Rebel Alliance is disguised as a normal, everyday conversation, consisting entirely of code language.
    • Subverted when K-2SO radios ahead and asks for a babysitter. The radio operator thinks he is using this (and is unsure of what it means) not realizing that the droid has an actual kid onboard and was being completely literal.
  • Suddenly Voiced:
    • invoked Due to the fact that R2-D2 has an actual voice actor here instead of speaking in beeps and boops, Paulo just invokes a Hand Wave to explain that C-3PO can understand what R2-D2 is saying.
    • Played with: Purely for ease of convience, Paulo uses the fact that C-3PO knows the Jawas' language in order to translate them during the scene where they find the droids.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Han Solo and his ship the Millenium Falcon are Adapted Out, with his alien sidekick Chewbacca being Demoted to Extra. Instead, they are replaced by fellow scoundrel Bitho Parras, his ship the Phantom, and his alien sidekick Kleeshak.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Jyn and Cassian's attempt at getting Galen medical attention from a local doctor predictably fails because of the severity of Galen's injuries; they need to take him to a hospital off-planet to get him intensive care. As compensation, the doctor agrees to house Galen while they find a ship.
    • Because Luke Skywalker's heritage was made known to the Rebel Alliance at Yavin 4, everyone is (understandably) a tad more frosty towards him, even to the point where Obi-Wan is explicitly forbidden from training him to be a Jedi lest there be a repeat of Darth Vader.
  • Take a Third Option: Ultimately, three plans are put forward for taking down the Death Star: the trench run a la the movie, overloading the thermal exhaust systems from the insidenote , and taking over one of the Death Star's escort ships to overload the exhaust sytems that way. General Draven, out of the desperateness of the situation, suggests all three be used.
  • Take That!:
    • invoked As Jyn strangles the Stormtrooper to death, Paulo cracks that this is just another example of how dark the franchise had gotten after Disney took over.
    • One of the reasons Paulo decided to ignore the prequels for this campaign was because the Retcon that Anakin built C-3PO doesn't make sense.
    • Two-fold: When specifying he isn't using the Special Editions for the campaign, Paulo remarks that there's no CGI in the area around Mos Eisley, "thank fucking God". But, when Jon mentions the CGI being in-universe, it causes the players to quickly devolve into a narrative that Meta took over and implemented VR technology into everything. In fact, it even has affected the Stormtroopers' helmets, due to the rampant amount of ads.
    • Kara having trouble working out how to tell time in the middle of space gives Paulo the opportunity to go on a minor tanget and give out about the writing in Star Trek: Picard:
Paulo: At one point, a character says "I know it's early afternoon, in this solar system," and I was like... "YOU MAKE A SHOW ABOUT SPACE! How do you not-"
      Kara: (talking over Paulo) What?
Paulo: "-know, like, how fucking afternoon works?!"
  • Tempting Fate: As soon as Joz crows that Jyn avenged her mother's death, Paulo announces that Owen has taken a shot at her head (which, one scene later, she successfully dodges).
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • Once Jyn is returned to her cell, and Cassian has woken up, he makes it clear they are in deep trouble.
    • Once Jyn and Cassian make it to the Silver City tavern Joe Carrian's, the pill Jyn had taken earlier kicks in, causing her to storm her way into the bar, loudly demanding a drink. Cassian, in turn, resigns himself to following after the ensuing storm.
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: Downplayed: While at Mos Eisley, Luke's encounter with the two thugs itching for a fight results in him getting clocked in the face. Later on, when the group has left Mos Eisley after Obi-Wan acquired the services of Bitho Parras, R2-D2 (having not seen most of what transpired in the bar) asks who "Bitho" is, prompting Luke to explain... only for Andy to abruptly remember R2-D2 is speaking in binary. Aram proceeds to spin this as Luke being concussed:
Aram: I like the idea... of Luke having a concu- a concussion, and can temporarily understand R2...
  • Timed Mission: Discussed: When K-2SO is brought to the Governor of Gibad in order to do some tasks for him, he repeatedly makes it clear he is only on Gibad for two hours, in order to (try and) prevent those at the space port from trying to keep him.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: With Kleeshak being held captive by Digmar when the base on Yavin 4 comes under siege, Scott makes it clear that if Kleeshak were to die, the players would riot. Luckily, Kleeshak manages to escape and rush back to the hangar.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Lane!Steve declines an offer to get medical attention (fearing that this would expose him and K2) with the excuse that he likes bleeding.
  • Tough Love:
    • There is a fair amount of Teeth-Clenched Teamwork between K-2SO and Steve, not helped by both of them being rather argumentative and K-2SO failing several important rolls early on.
    • Upon realizing Princess Leia is in danger, R2-D2 decides to deal with C-3PO's freak out in a subdued manner:
R2-D2: You need to pull your shit together.
R2-D2: You also don't die! So pull your shit together, and let's go save the princess!
  • Tranquil Fury: Downplayed: When Scott decides to roll Detect Lies on Betara in Part 1, he cracks that it never does anything. This prompts Paulo to fire back that it’s useful when it works well... but, as Scott then points out, Paulo said this while looking pissed.
Scott: (as Paulo) Uh, Scott, uh, Detect Lies is- you’re an asshole.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The plot of this campaign is split into three individual campaigns: K-2SO and Steve attempting to locate a different Rebel base to deliver the hard drive containing the Death Star plans, the plot of A New Hope, and Jyn and Cassian trying to escape captivity with Galen Erso. It takes until Part 5 for all three parties to be wrangled together into one call.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The Emperor dissolving the Senate cause worker riots in Tin Town, which Jyn and Cassian manage to use to their advantage.
  • The Unintelligible: Due to Paulo fucking up saying "Jyn Erso", he, Joz and Scott spend the first minute of their intro, as Joz describes, replacing all their vowels with Rs. This culminates in Scott doing the same in his Cassian voice, resulting in what Paulo describes as Antonio Banderas playing the Swedish Chef.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: As Paulo decides, Luke failing to realize the significance of running across the destroyed Sandcrawler on his way back to the farm is indirectly because he has fully committed to becoming a Jedi knight, and was distracted.note
  • Urban Segregation: Silver City is a Metropolis-esque layered city with a massive entertainment district at ground level, gardens elevated high in the sky, and the workers keeping it all running being confirmed to an underground slum called Tin Town.
  • Villain Respect: Inverted: Krennic's assistant, a no-name NPC with a shit Dodge skill, is given the name "Owen Watchreed" after Scott demands to know what his name is due to him somehow managing to dodge four direct blaster shots.
  • We Have Ways of Making You Talk: Director Krennic attempts to use Jyn to get Galen Erso to admit to what he did to the Death Star, first by openly shoving a gun into her head, then deciding to deliver her fingers to him one at a time (which doesn't play out due to Jyn killing him before it gets that far).
  • Weird Trade Union: By the end of Part 2, Steve's antics in Gibad's space port culminate in him trying to convince the workers there to unionize, which (from last we hear of the development) seems to be gaining ground. Two security guards promptly put the kibosh on Steve's rally at the start of their portion of Part 3.
  • We Need a Distraction:
    • In Silver City, Cassian pretends to be a loud and enthusiastic drunken worker who mistakes a tourist for a friend of his, giving Jyn the opportunity to pickpocket him.
    • As this leads to Cassian being apprehended for public intoxication, Jyn starts a small riot to distract the police while she tries to rescue him. However, she is caught in the act and only a Bavarian Fire Drill on Cassian’s part keeps them from getting arrested.
  • We Want Our Joz Back: In Part 4, after Cassian shoots Throg In the Back, Paulo announces that he kept his feet, and is going to shoot Cassian. Scott promptly asks Joz to finish Throg off... only to be taken aback when Joz not only argues that Jyn is contemplating not wasting any more time with the situation and just sneaking off into the crowd of rioters, but also decides to roll to see if Jyn noticed the shot at all:
Scott: (frantic) Ah! Joz! Joz, you're killing me! Why?! Why would you roll this?! Why would you ask to roll this?!
Joz: Because my brain is so far in another direction right now that, like, I-I hear you- alright, okay. (starts to roll) Hold on.
Scott: (more frantic; near pleading) Wai- I need the old Joz! I need my old Joz, where's Joz?! I haven't seen her for, like, three episodes! This is your chance! To fucking do some damage!
  • Wham Episode:
  • What Could Have Been: invoked Discussed: After Jyn and Cassian manage to barely avoid getting arrested by the cops in Silver City, Paulo almost-frustratedly alludes to a "fun police precinct scenario" they had gotten out of.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: Concerningly, Mon Mothma's whereabouts wind up unaccounted for after the attack on the Rebel base on Yavin 4.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Kara is none too pleased when Paulo reveals the child K-2SO was babysitting, Khaki, was Force-sensitive... after he made a big deal about K-2SO needing to save her from falling off of a roof.
Kara: I FUCKING KNEW IT! I didn't wanna say anything, I didn't wanna jinx it- she's fucking Force-sensitive!
    • After Cassian half-heartedly apologizes for enraging Luke by insulting his dadnote , C-3PO snaps and tears Cassian a new one:
K-2SO: In- in his defense, I am not sure that Captain Cassian knows how to not judge people.
C-3PO: (pissed) Well, maybe he should step back and step off!
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Inverted: While C-3PO freaks out about potentially dying, R2-D2 decides to calm him down by pointing out he has no soul.
R2-D2: (calmly) You cannot die. You are not a person. You're a droid, and you can't die.
  • Wicked Cultured: The Patron has an expansive collection of works by local artists at his home, not that Jyn or Cassian really know or care who they are.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Discussed: When forced into the decision of whether or not to save Khaki from falling off the roof, Kara (taking advantage of the fact that K-2SO is using his lightning-fast processors to think about the decision within a millisecond) ping-pongs between trying to save the child or deciding to let her die, before deciding (out of spite towards Paulo) to try and make the lifesaving grab. K-2SO barely fails to grasp her... only for Paulo to then reveal Khaki was Force-sensitive all along, and she stopped her own descent.
  • Wretched Hive:
    • Mos Eisley, the Trope Namer, is as bad as ever. Parodied when Ben Kenobi spends the entire four-hour journey there complaining about the place.
    • Interestingly, Galen Erso uses the exact same wording to describe the Silver City, "an opulent town filled with rich children of aristocrats and actors and tycoons."
      • Special mention goes to Joe Carrian's, a tavern that is a blatant Bad Guy Bar that isn't the type of bar to serve locals.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • K-2SO suspects that the ship that received the Death Star plans got destroyed, and that the ship he is on contains the only remaining copy.
    • Luke comes to think he's learning to understand R2-D2... as the droid directly wishes death upon him.
    • Brandon mistakenly thinks Paulo isn't trying to do him wrong by guiding him into having Steve stash the TIE Fighter in a nearby alien forest. As such, Steve promptly runs afoul of a swarm of alien birds and almost dies as he flees back to K-2SO.
    • Due to some bad rolls, Obi-Wan fails to realize that Bitho Parras is a blatant con man, and that Chewbacca would be the better choice for a pilot.
    • Downplayed: As Paulo admits to the audience in Part 6, since this was Luisa Menzen's second time on the show, she thought they were still using the "roll to remember" mechanic.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After meeting Luke in Part 1, Obi-Wan makes it clear he is destined for great things and has plans to train him to be a Jedi. Fast foward to Part 5, where after the bombshell of Darth Vader being Luke's father is made public to the council at Yavin 4, Obi-Wan is told in no uncertain terms that they refuse to let him teach Luke. This only winds up barely screwing over Luke because they seem more willing to let him do the trench run on the Death Star, and also because the base immediately getting attacked throws all of that into question.note
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!:
    • Owen Watchreed somehow manages to dodge four blaster shots before two Stormtroopers enter the room and are talked into killing him.
    • As Cassian and Jyn are in the process of sneaking Galen out, Paulo decides to have the Stormtrooper guard that was assisting themnote  roll Perception to see if he notices the pistol Jyn had hidden on her person from the previous episode. And while he does succeed the roll, all this results in is the Stormtrooper making Cassian aware he "forgot" to search the prisoner, and he gives him the gun.
Paulo: (genuinely pissed; to Scott) I-I like that I just, uh, succeeded on a Stormtrooper Perception for once, in... their fucking life, and it just helped you.
    • As Andy himself acknowledges, after years of trying to trick Jon by stating more subtle "goofs", the one time it actually works was when he was just trying to make a shitty joke.note
    • When Kara tries to make a backup copy of the Death Star plans onto K-2SO's hard drive, Paulo asks her to roll for K-2SO's health to see if there will be enough space for the plans. Cue her announcing it was a Crit Fail.note
Kara: I... I... I... ... ...if I could, I wish I were a poet, so that I can convey to the listeners my craving for death in it's full... uh, decrepitude.
Paulo: I feel like you have Crit Failed your first roll of an episode, like, seven times, like-
      Kara: YEAH, I KNOW, PAULO.
    • After ending Part 5 with the Rebel base getting attacked by the Empire, Paulo opens Part 6 by announcing that between episodes, he rolled to see how effective that attack was... and the Empire "rolled quite well".
      Kara: Bullshit. Fuckin' rigged.
Kara: Stupid Jedi, and their honor system...
