"Dance with something!"

Jonny and Plank have had a fight, and the former leaves the latter behind. Eddy takes advantage of this to sell Jonny a friend, but none of them work out for Jonny.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Jonny and Plank reconcile, but Jonny doesn't pay Eddy, whose bedroom has been trashed. However, the Eds do enjoy themselves dancing with Jimmy.
  • Dance Party Ending: After Eddy shoos out all the kids, the only one remaining is Jimmy, who starts dancing to disco music. Edd and Ed join in, and Eddy decides that "If you can't beat 'em, show off" and dances as well.
  • Feud Episode: Between Jonny and Plank.
  • Get Out!: Eddy eventually orders out the unannounced party guests - save for Jimmy, with whom the Eds have a dance.
  • Kick the Dog: What does Kevin do when he walks into Eddy's room uninvited? Break his records while calling them garbage.
  • Reading the Stage Directions Out Loud: When Ed is sent to convince Jonny to buy a new friend from Eddy, he keeps misreading the Cue Cards, starting with "Sit down and say 'hello Jonny.'" It also gets inverted when he misinterprets his lines for a question being asked to him.
Ed: Ask him how... he is!
Edd: [whispering] "How are you?", "How are you?"!
Ed: I'm fine, thanks! Okay, a little hungry...
  • Riddle for the Ages: We never did learn what Jonny and Plank were fighting about prior to the episode.
  • Shown Their Work: Double D's explanation in Jonny's reliance of inanimate objects for companionship is genuine as some kids do use objects, or imaginary friends, to help improve their social skills and cope with their lack of self-confidence.
  • Shrinking Violet: Jonny demonstrates that he has a difficult time making friends and prefers one-on-one interactions with inanimate objects. And during the party, he starts to panic when he's overwhelmed by the various party guests wanting to dance with him.
  • Vinyl Shatters: Kevin casually smashes Eddy's records.
  • Wild Teen Party: Eddy stages a "singles mixer" for Jonny to choose a new friend, but then the other kids invite themselves in and start wrecking Eddy's room.
  • "X" Marks the Spot: At the beginning of the episode, Edd finds something in his backyard with a metal detector. He marks an X on the grass so they can dig it out. We never see what it is, but when Ed tries to pull it out, it sinks all the lightposts in the cul-de-sac.
