Recap / Doug Doug I Forced Twitch Chat To Play My Unethical DND Campaign

Go To

Original Stream Date: May 24, 2023

Video Date: July 20, 2023

In this video, DougDoug has Chat take the reins of a deranged Dungeons & Dragons game, where they roleplay as the ditzy Barbarian, the sassy Bard, and the divorced Wizard. Together, the three will venture inside a magical Walmart to fight a warlock known as Walter, alongside the mayor of Wall-Town, a cowardly pig-dwarf named Porky. Will Twitch Chat be able to take Walter and his magical staff down, or will the demons of Walmart prove too much for them?
  • Action Girl: The Wizard is a sorceress who's willing to use nail guns and rope when it comes to adventuring the Walmart. Plus, she can kickflip on anything.
  • Alien Blood: A parodied version, combining with Machine Blood: at first Doug has the Dr. Pepper can bleed out real blood when Wizard shoots a Ray of Frost and kills it, only for someone in Chat to point out it was Dr. Pepper (the liquid). From there, everything else inexplicably bleeds Dr. Pepper once they're dead.
  • Always Accurate Attack: The Wizard can use Magic Missile once per floor, an attack that bypasses the need to roll a number and above to hit the enemy.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The Barbarian refers to Bert, another orc working as a cashier in the Clothing Department, as his "brother". It's never made clear how literal his comments are meant to be.
  • Amicable Exes: Despite being divorced from each other, the Bard and Wizard have no problem travelling together, and even have Belligerent Sexual Tension between each other at times, culminating in them getting back together, which uniquely enough for a DougDoug video, is actually treated positively.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: The evil staff used by Walter has this power, and he's used it to turn a lot of Walmart's inventory into monsters to protect the store from invading heroes. This reaches its logical conclusion when the heroes obtain the staff, and the Barbarian uses it on the building itself, turning the whole thing sentient.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: For the sake of comedy, of course:
    • Wizard takes an entire bottle of painkillers to heal 1 point of health.
    • Bard manages to come back from the verge of death after Wizard kicks him upside the head.
  • Audience Participation: Members of the Twitch chat will be randomly selected to take control over any of the three party members. They are encouraged to improvise with different skills and spells, some of which are given limited use.
  • Badass Boast: Right after Porky gets disarmed of the staff after setting Walmart on fire in the climax, the Wizard proceeds to shove her nailgun into his head executioner-style and gets him to surrender with the following:
Iam_xiv the Wizard: (angry) we have your staff. you're covered in milk. the Walmart is burning. give up.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Despite being (or maybe even because they're) divorced, Bard and Wizard's entire dynamic is this personified. The two spend a lot of time poking fun at each other, yet they also flirt with each other at several points.
  • Book Dumb:
    • The Barbarian has been kicked out of art school and can't tell left or right apart, but what he lacks in smarts, he makes up for in raw strength.
Lightcil the Barbarian: I failed arts school, but I succeed MARTIAL ARTS (sic)
    • The Wizard is known for being illiterate and has to ask Barbarian to read some of the labels on the food when they're in the Food Department.
  • Born Unlucky: Barbarian can't catch a break with his constant low rolls, even getting a few Nat-1's. In true Dungeons & Dragons fashion, it doesn't stop him from contributing quite a bit to the adventure.
  • Break Them by Talking: The Bard has access to a technique called Vicious Mockery, where he hurls insults toward the enemy to hurt them and weaken their incoming attack.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: When he's not smashing up enemies and having an Intimidating Presence, the Barbarian has a keen eye for fashionable dresses and treats Porky with some care and affection (in-between using him as a weapon).
  • Butt-Monkey: Porky is constantly harassed by his teammates for simply existing, and Barbarian eventually takes up using him as a weapon. It later turns out not too unfounded, as Porky ends up betraying the party after Walter is defeated because he was planning to take Walter's staff the whole time.
  • The Cameo: The witch that curses the party to only have one working brain cell at a time is Pajama Sam from I forced an AI to play a kids adventure game, under the pseudonym Babagaboosh.
  • Casanova Wannabe: The Bard's success at his class's memetic tactic of rolling to seduce the foe is decidedly mixed, to put it diplomatically.
Doug: This Bard has no rizz!
  • The Chew Toy: Porky is made to be this since he ends up contributing very little to the trio's efforts beyond cowering. Doug starts playing into the Chat's frequent mistreatment of the pig dwarf; it ranges from the party constantly telling him to shut up, the Bard throwing a bottle of bleach at him out of annoyance, and goes up to Barbarian using him in his attacks—as the weapon.
  • Comically Inept Healing: The Bard loses his last heart from Walter's fireball near the end. Knocked unconscious and being the only one on the team with actual healing powers, it's up to Wizard to try to stabilize him... by kicking him awake. What's more astounding is that it actually works thanks to a Natural 20!
  • Comically Small Bribe:
    • Walter sics the Legosaur on the heroes by promising it a limited edition Let's Go Pikachu Nintendo Switch with a Level 50 Charizard already in the save data.
    • Porky tries to talk the party down from taking back the magic staff by offering that they could shop at Walgreens, or even work there as cashiers.
  • Comically Small Demand: Walter offers the party to rule alongside him as "grossly overpaid" Walmart executives. The Bard wants to be an item stocker instead.
  • Compelling Voice: How the Bard's skills and powers work; his Motivational Speech provides buffs to allies, Vicious Mockery is a range of insults that cause damage to enemies, and Suggestion is him magically demanding any creature to follow his orders for one turn.
  • Cool Board: The Wizard has one for all the kickflips and tricks she tries all over Walmart. She's depicted as slaying the Lego Dragon while riding it!
  • Deadpan Snarker: Though all three of the heroes have their moments, Bard is the most notable one since his comments are capable of causing damage to enemies or buffing his teammates.
  • Death by Despair: The Bard's use of Vicious Mockery uses this to damage enemies.
    • Hearing that it has no friends by virtue of being a dinosaur (thus all his friends died millions of years ago) and after being insulted with a musical tune, the Dino Nugget collapses in tears and dies.
    • Mocked for being naked despite living in the clothing department, the mannequin jumped off the platform to his death.
    • Convinced that it ended up hurting someone who was actually trying to help its deceased friend, the Mop in the Appliance Section drops dead.
  • Death or Glory Attack: The Barbarian has his Reckless Attack, which he can use every turn to add 5 to his attack roll, but gives the same benefit to enemies, effectively turning the Barbarian into a Glass Cannon.
  • Dirty Coward: Porky the Pig Dwarf. He refuses to involve himself in the action, flees at the first sight of physical conflict, and never does more than comment in the background while the trio does most of the work. This is Subverted at the very start, but only thanks to the Bard using a Suggestion on him, which causes Porky to attack the Oreo and get the first Natural 20 of the game. Even worse, he tries to take advantage of Walter's defeat to quickly get his hands on the staff to seize power for his company, Walgreens.
  • Disappeared Dad: Played for Laughs in this exchange, when the Bard considers healing Wizard in exchange for another chance with her.
Doug: Wizard, do you give your ex-husband another chance?
Frutmose the Wizard: As long as he provides milk for our children
Shabby_mcstabby the Bard: (terrified) WE HAVE CHILDREN?
  • Dumb Muscle:
    • The Barbarian is the party's tank; an orc warrior with lots of strength but also stupid to the point where he has short-term memory loss and can't tell left from right. Most of his rolls end up being very low, forcing him to start relying on Reckless Attack to make actions land.
    • The Roomba is an even worse case, trying to take the shortest possible traveling distance even if it means accidentally eating an ally on the way. It can't say anything else other than its own name and is easily fooled by the Wizard's illusory wall.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • When the Bard uses Vicious Mockery to tell the Dino Nugget it went extinct 100 million years ago, it gets driven to tears by the realization that its friends and family are all long dead.
    • When the Mop gets a Natural 20 attacking the Bard, Doug narrates it as the Mop, who thought the Bard was trying to hurt his best friend the Fridge with his bumbling attempts to fix him, gets enraged and whacks the Bard so hard it knocks him on his ass. In response, the Bard uses his Vicious Mockery ability on the Mop to convince him that his interference cost the Fridge his life, which depresses the Mop so much it kills him.
  • Evil All Along: Porky betrays the party near the end. While this might have initially seemed to be a case of Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal given all the verbal and physical abuse the party had heaped on him throughout the dungeon, it turns out he was the owner of Walgreens and was planning on stealing the staff from the start. Doug confirms this in the original, unedited stream in the postmortem.
  • Evil Counterpart: The Appliance Department has a rough analog with each of the party members, minus the Microwave (who almost immediately gets eaten by the Roomba). The Roomba is a big, physically powerful idiot like the Barbarian, the Mop and Fridge have a pre-existing close relationship with each other like the Wizard and Bard, and the Washing Machine is a useless coward who largely only barks orders at the others like Porky.
  • Extreme Omnisexual: The Bard's character is made to fit the stereotype and has Seduction as part of his skills. He flirts with numerous sentient creatures throughout the campaign, albeit with very little success.
  • Fastball Special: Near the end of the Appliances section, the Barbarians turns Porky into a (very unwilling) projectile when the heroes are fighting the Washing Machine. Failing to find a sledgehammer before the final battle, the Barbarian decides to continue using Porky as a substitute.
  • Field Power Effect:
    • Certain enemies will leave a trail of different harmful substances that can hinder the party's movement and/or cause damage.
      • The Wizard slips an Oreo up with milk but gets caught in it herself. The Barbarian misses his attack with a bad roll and slips on the milk as well.
      • The Giant Hot Pocket leaves molten cheese and sauce in its wake. While the party has to avoid it, those on the enemy team like the Dino Nugget can stand in it with no issues.
      • Soapy water left behind by the Mop in the Appliances section causes the Barbarian to slip and fall short of the distance he wanted to travel. The Mop also makes the Bard lose a turn with the same water after landing a Nat-20.
    • The gimmick of the Clothing Department floor is the rotating section of platforms at its center, which require rolls to determine whether a character will fall from them or not.
    • In a last-ditch effort to defend itself from the heroes, the Washing Machine sprays hydrochloric acid around itself to make some distance. This is what forces Barbarian to improvise with Porky.
    • The Lego Dragon's Lego Breath covers a line of movement squares for one whole turn.
  • The Gambling Addict: Barbarian is established as having an addiction to gambling, which plays into both his use of a Reckless Attack that leaves him open for a lowered roll and (unintentionally) his low success rate with dice rolls in general. It's most notably seen when he tries to throw Porky at the Washing Machine over and over.
  • Gentle Giant: The Barbarian acts like a very supportive frat bro, being good friends with the Bard and the Wizard, and even showing some affection to Porky during the first battle at the Toys Department.
  • Girly Bruiser: The Wizard isn't just adept at casting spells, but also able to wield a nail gun with proficiency and suplexes Walter into submission.
  • Golden Ending: At least for this specific campaign. All the players survive, the evil warlock Walter gets defeated, Walmart (while also being made sentient) burns down and crushes Porky in the process, and the party decides to destroy the warlock's staff after everything is all said and done. Also, they made it out with the limited edition Let's Go Pikachu Switch, the wizard and bard appear to have fixed their relationship (for once in a DougDoug video), and (via a Nat 20) the Walmart employee Bert is confirmed to have survived, and is Wal Town's new (technically returning) mayor. And the party gets rewarded with a giant Let's Go Eevee Switch on top of it all.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Lacking a ranged attack, the Barbarian eventually gets the idea to pick up and huck Porky at distant enemies. Rarely does it actually hit the enemy, usually Porky just painfully slams into various nearby obstacles, but the Barbarian keeps trying because either outcome is fine.
  • Hand Wave: The premise of the campaign (where a member of Chat is able to control one of the three characters for a limited period of time) is explained in-universe as the result of a curse placed upon the characters which renders only one of their brain cells active at a time.
  • Healing Hands: The Bard can cast Cure Wounds and is the team's designated healer.
  • Healing Potion:
    • Porky stumbles upon a bottle of Advil, which Doug ascribes the ability to recover 1 point of health to whoever consumes it. Barbarian and Wizard intimidate him into handing it over, and Wizard heals by downing the entire bottle.
    • Doug explains at the end that he also would've made Bert a shopkeeper for similar healing items, but ultimately couldn't do it since none of the players decided to talk with him.
  • Hollywood Acid: The Washing Machine gets its hands on a bottle of hydrochloric acid from the aisles and sets up a semicircle border of it between itself and the heroes. After the Barbarian throws Porky at it, the Washing Machine falls over into its own acid and instantly dies.
  • Horny Bard: Before the start of the campaign, Doug allows for the Chat to decide on what traits each character should have. They naturally choose the most stereotypical one for The Bard and even make it so that The Wizard was previously romantically involved with him. He's genuinely surprised when she offhandedly mentions that they've had kids.
  • Implausible Boarding Skills: After training to be a skateboarder, the Wizard prefers to move around and preface her attacks with kickflips.
  • Informed Flaw: The cast is "cursed" with a condition that limits their thoughts and controls according to a new singular brain cell (read: Twitch chatter) every few turns, so their motivation for getting Walter's staff is to cure themselves of it. Throughout the campaign, however, the chat is able to keep the characters consistent in both personality and performance, and they even manage to survive until the very end of the story. They ultimately decide that what they have isn't really a curse and break the staff.
  • It Only Works Once: The skillsets that come with each character contain certain moves limited to single uses, either once-per-floor or once-per-stream.
    • The Barbarian can add an Extra Attack per floor and scare all enemies away with Intimidating Presence once every stream. He unfortunately never makes use of it throughout the whole campaign.
    • The Bard can Cure Wounds or deliver a Motivational Speech once every floor. He can also conjure magical Suggestions to make creatures obey his commands for a turn, but it can never be used again. The latter is what causes Porky to critically injure the Oreo at the beginning.
    • The Wizard can attack with Magic Missile and create illusions with Major Image, each having only one use per floor. She also has access to Polymorph to transform any enemy into a creature of her choice, only once per stream. She saves it for the climactic battle with the Lego Dragon and hinders its movement by turning him into a clone of Porky.
  • Kill Us Both: Barbarian invokes this when he gets impersonated by shapeshifting mannequins, though it's more because he also forgot which one was the real him. He goes so far as to try and punch both the mannequin and himself.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Two of the character traits for Wizard result in this, as she's known to talk "like a Holier Than Thou Redditor" yet is also illiterate.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: The Wizard may not be durable, but she's physically adept and athletic. She can do a sick kickflip off of anything with her skateboard and at one point suplexes an enemy.
  • Let's Meet the Meat: The very first floor is the Walmart's Food Department, with enemies being giant sentient snacks.
  • The Load: Porky is the quest-giver for this campaign, and he tags along with the trio as they explore the Walmart. Aside from giving advice and one moment where he's forced by the Bard to join the fight, he spends much of the time yelling orders, cowering in the corner, or getting in the way. Even when the Barbarian later decides to use him as a weapon, he's not a very good one.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: The Wizard, in a bid to get Walter's staff and keep her friends safe, says as much when she's accepting the offer to join his side.
Terminal8ce the Wizard: As long as my friends stay safe. Well I don't care what happens to Porky.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: The chat briefly ponders using seduction on Bert. The Barbarian loudly protests at the idea as they make their way up to the Appliances Section.
Lightcil the Barbarian: DO NOT SEDUCE.
  • Noodle Incident: One of the personality traits assigned to Bard is the fact that he's a YouTuber that's been cancelled in the past. Plus, he and Wizard are recently divorced. Nothing indicates that the two traits necessarily coincide with one another.
  • Pokémon Speak: The giant Roomba in the Appliance department can only say "ROOMBAAA!" Similarly, the animated Walmart itself can only roar "WALMAAART!"
  • Psychic-Assisted Suicide: The Bard takes out one of the Mannequins with Vicious Mockery by telling him he can't afford clothes despite living in a clothing aisle. The magic of his words depresses the mannequin so much he drops himself off the platform down onto the bottom floor, smashing himself on the ground.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Bert the beleaguered Orc clothing department employee puts very little effort into stopping the adventurers, only doing what Walter tells him to do when getting yelled at over the comm system and otherwise just reads his magazine. It turns out he was the former mayor of Wal Town, who Walter had kidnapped, and gets reinstated after escaping.
  • Rightful King Returns: At the very end of the campaign, after both Walter and Porky are defeated, Bert is revealed to have escaped the collapsing Walmart and explains that he was the mayor before Walter kidnapped and hired him. As thanks for rescuing him and all their other accomplishments, he rewards the players with a giant Let's Go Eevee Switch.
  • Sequel Hook: Due to all three heroes surviving the campaign and breaking the staff instead of removing their curse, it becomes very likely for the cast to reappear in another session down the line. This is only really made explicit by the Barbarian in the full VOD. Doug doesn't make any promises, but the chance is still there.
Mordrayus the Barbarian: We need sequel fodder!
  • Shout-Out:
    • Upon learning that the ruler of Walmart is named Walter, Chat started spouting "waltuh... put your dick away, waltuh" memes. Face to face, the Bard dares Walter to "Put your staff away, Waltuh!".
    • The PowerPoint slide of the Bard remarks that he looks like RTGame.
    • At the halfway point of the Clothing Department battle, Walter instructs Bert to "Execute Order 66!".
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • When Barbarian moves over onto a platform to get a dress, his brother activates the defense systems of floor 2, sending a squad of five sentient mannequins to attack. Barbarian uses his turn to get a dress from the rack, while Wizard is so focused on the mannequins lacking legs that she uses magic to create illusory legs on them.
    • Rather than confronting Porky or escaping the burning Walmart, the Bard is most interested in retrieving the limited edition Let's Go Pikachu Switch from in the corner. It's got a Level 50 Charizard on it, that's just too good to leave behind!
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: The Bard and The Wizard had an established relationship prior to this adventure that ended with their divorce. Throughout the campaign, the chatters throw the idea of them getting back together around until it eventually creates a mini-Romance Arc where they eventually rekindle their relationship halfway through. They still end up bickering after this, though.
  • The Snack Is More Interesting: While Porky is begging the party for help with their evil Walmart problem, they and especially the Barbarian are more focused on ordering drinks from him since they're in a tavern.
  • Spot the Imposter: In the middle of their battle in the Clothing Department, Walter orders Bert to hit the lights. After the lights go back on, it's revealed that the Mannequins have all shapeshifted into identical visual copies of the Barbarian, down to his new red dress. It becomes a challenge for the heroes to discern which one they should target, including the Barbarian himself.
  • Story Branching: Following the Clothing Department, Porky sees the path split between the Electronics Department and the Hardware Section. The trio chooses the Hardware section, leaving the Electronics Department unexplored.
  • Taking You with Me: Near the end, the Barbarian animates the Walmart as it's burning down, and as it's dying, he orders it to fall down on Porky. The Walmart, aware enough to realize that Porky was the one who set it on fire, obliges with its last act.
  • Team Killer: The giant animated Roomba accidentally eats the animated Microwave. Based on the dialog from the Washing Machine, this isn't the first time he's done something like this.
  • Terrible Artist: It's established that Barbarian has been kicked out of art school.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Porky spends the whole campaign being harassed and abused. Even his villainous reveal doesn't get him any more respect from Doug or the players. At one point he gets to be awesome, though: on the first floor, the Bard motivates him to jump into the fight instead of cowering in the corner. He proceeds to roll the first Nat 20 of the campaign and one-shots an enemy with gusto, getting an acknowledgment of respect from the Bard for it.
  • Token Trio: The party consists of a male orc barbarian, a human male bard, and a female wizard that is seemingly an elf.
  • Totally Radical: The term "rizz" is thrown out a lot of times when describing the bard's ability to seduce his enemies.
  • Treacherous Quest Giver: Porky reveals himself to be after Walter's magical staff once the main party finally takes down the Walmart warlock.
  • Violation of Common Sense: Doug intends to reward players for choosing more out-of-pocket suggestions, though he will only follow through if they can accomplish the required rolls. The most notable one is when Bard goes down and Wizard has to save him. What does she do? Kick him awake of course! And thanks to a Nat 20, it gets him a heart point back.
  • We Can Rule Together:
    • The evil warlock of Walmart offers the party the chance to join him. The Wizard does, and the others, tempted by promises of employment and employee discounts, follow suit.note
    • While trying to escape with the staff, Porky offers all of the adventurers a chance to work at Walgreens with menial jobs under his rule.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Narrowly subverted: After the adventurers have been victorious, escaped the burning Walmart and been hailed as heroes, someone in Chat asks what happened to Bert, the beleaguered orc employee from the clothing department. Doug says, "Uh-oh," and rolls to see if Bert is safe. He rolls a natural 20 and Bert is revealed to be the former mayor, who after safely escaping is reinstated.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Barbarian becomes this, wearing a dress once the party reaches the second floor of the Walmart. He even insists on getting it back when it's been dirtied beyond belief.
