Recap / Dogs In Space S 2 E 3 Who Wants A Treaty

Go To

Pluto may have found the perfect planet for the humans; rich soil, clean air, a friendly environment. Unfortunately, another crew has also landed on a bid to claim it for their race. Stella must now try to maintain diplomacy and negotiate with the other crew's leader who has an even bigger ego than Garbage.

Speaking of Garbage, he is still getting used to not being Captain. Joining the rest of the crew try to find a way to tip scales in their favor, they find something else that may doom both sides and the planet itself.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: Garbage finds a weird sticky substance in the Frockwisers' secret compartment that is difficult to escape from. Later, he breaks back into the ship to talk to Stergil and together uses the substance to prevent the planet eater alien from devouring the planet they are negotiating for.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Pepper decides to trust Garbage with a flawed plan to stop the destructive alien that is destroying the planet. When Stella asks why since he and the others ruined everything, she responds that the planet is a lost cause at this point and they don't have any other options.
  • Loophole Abuse: Stella orders the rest of the crew not to sneak aboard the Frockwiser ship. Ed goes in anyway because he does what he does best: to steal things, which is hardly protocol.
  • Mirror Character: A couple of the Frockwiser species share similarities with the Pluto crew. Captain Stergil shares a more egotistical attitude with Garbage, while the former's second-in-command shares cautious diplomacy with Stella.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Thanks to Ed, Nomi, and Garbage, they not only interrupt and ruin Stella's negotiations with the Frockwisers by breaking into their ship, but they unwittingly release a seemingly cute imprisoned creature in their secret room... that is revealed go be a ravenous living Planet Eater responsible for destroying their home planet.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Stergil proves himself much worse in taking humility than Garbage. He accidentally frees the planet eater once again and stays behind to flutily stop it, not to save anyone, but to satisfy his inflated ego. The ending implies he won't survive when the alien is finished eating the entire planet.
