Tropes

  • Bittersweet Ending: After nearly dooming the M-Bark, Stella almost reconsidered bringing Garbage back to the Pluto crew but, because they all miss him despite his recklessness she convinces the Council to have Garbage rejoin, under the condition that he remains a team player while Stella is still in charge.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Remember the drawing Garbage had for Stella in "Settle Down" when he and the others were de-aged into puppies? She presents it to the Council to show that Garbage always believed in her as a Captain, and uses it to reinstate him as a crewmember. All but Happy agree to this.
  • Gone Horribly Right:
    • Garbage tries to impress Councilman Pistachio Soup at the tea shop to be recommended a promotion, and he does get promoted... as the shop manager.
    • He later tries to get himself demoted later by breaking Barckay's "two minute" rule in steaming tea. It almost causes a mass parasite infestation, and there is a good chance he would be fired after.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Barclay, the M-Bark's tea shop owner, is so dedicated to his work, he is able to make tea-related puns on the fly.
  • Inevitably Broken Rule:
    • Barclay warns Garbage not to leave tea steaming for two minutes. He tries to get demoted by intentionally breaking this rule, but the leaves he used are revealed to be parasites who wake up after over two minutes.
    • While not a rule, per se, Barclay has a pet peeve about adding too much milk in tea. When he is possessed by the awakened tea leaf parasite, Garbage has Stella shoot milk to kill the leaves and free Barclay.
  • No Indoor Voice: Stella greet Garbage with no quietness or tact, very uncharacteristic on her part. She then reveals that the crew is going to a planet where their sense will be useless. They are trying out blindfolds while she is wearing earplugs.
  • The Reveal: The big reason Garbage works at a tea shop because no one else on the M-Bark will hire him. He has spent a full week unemployed in his quarters and takes this job out of boredom.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Garbage is surprised that the snooty Barclay is stronger than he looks believing that the parasite gave him enhanced strength. The parasite reveals that Barclay was actually working out.
