Recap / Bones S 5 E 21 The Boy With The Answer

Go To

The trial of Heather Taffet/ The Gravedigger (Deirdre Lovejoy) commences, albeit with some hangups. The Gravedigger, representing herself, plays several legal cards that result in Booth, Brennan, and Hodgins all having to drop their own kidnapping charges against her and go all-in on the original case, trying to find concrete evidence to nail Taffet with. When it seems Taffet might get off, Brennan's criminal father tries to snipe her (Booth interferes at the last minute and the trial continues). Evidence, however, is found and Taffet is convicted, warning Brennan that "it's not over".

Tropes

  • Catapult Nightmare: The beginning of the episode has Brennan waking up from a Gravedigger nightmare this way.
  • Courtroom Episode: This episode is about Heather Taffet's trial.
  • A Fool for a Client: Heather Taffet is her own attorney at her trial. Counteracting the idiom she is frighteningly effective.
  • Save the Villain: Booth saves Heather Taffet from a vigilante execution.
  • Team Mercy vs. Team Murder: Max Keenan attempts to kill Heather Taffet when it looks like she will be exonerated for the Gravedigger murders, afraid she will go after Brennan again once freed. Booth punches him out so that Taffet gets a fair trial and Brennan tells him she doesn't want her dad killing for her. Downplayed since Brennan confesses to partly wishing he'd done it.
