Recap / Bar Rescue S 2 E 10 Bikini Bust

Go To

Extremes Sports Bar and Grill is struggling due to a sleazy dress code, a staff split between new and old, and an owner who spends more time drinking than helping. Can Jon manage to salvage this mess and turn it into a proper sports bar?

Unfortunately, the bar has gone downhill again. See here for more details.

Episode Tropes:

  • A House Divided: The bartenders are split between Veterans and Rookies, each having a low opinion of the other side as their lack of harmony leads to multiple problems. Part of the rescue was trying to mend this divide.
  • The Alcoholic: Terry spent more time drinking away the profits with customers rather than running the bar. Then, he had the audacity to see the hidden camera and wave as he drank more booze. Jon was not pleased at all and let Terry have it when he came in the doors.
  • The Cameo: Renee and Brad from the Angels Sports Bar rescue return as recon spies.
  • Double Entendre: The new name for Extremes is Second Base, owning up to the baseball theme of the bar and the sexual innuendo of the same name.
  • Fanservice: Discussed in this episode. Extremes Sports Bar and Grill is a bikini-themed bar and the bartenders wear mismatched bathing suits as their uniforms. Although Jon has no problem with showing off sexuality, he argues that it can be done in a more tasteful manner. When he relaunched the bar as Second Base, he gave the bartenders proper uniforms that show off their sexuality in a more positive light.
  • Foreshadowing: Terry's attitude during the fight over buying glassware about 2/3 through the episode foreshadows the attitude he shows in the re-rescue 2 years later.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: One patron was unlucky to find rat feces in his beer mug during the Stress Test. Seeing that caused Jon to end the night.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Jon has this reaction when he sees the bartenders pull out red disposable cups when they ran out of glassware. He knows that a bar must have standards and seeing the staff forced to use red cups is below them.
  • Only Sane Man: Extreme's manager Garry is the only one on the staff that is responsible for his job and does not spend time arguing with the others. During the Stress Test, Garry did a lot to make sure everything was kept up, and Jon recognized that, convincing Terry to let Garry have more control of the bar moving forward.
