Recap / Archer S 8 E 7 Gramercy Halberd

Go To

The crew make a harried escape from psycho cyborg Dutch (Barry), as shocking secrets about Woodhouse come to light.

  • Artificial Limbs: Dutch has robotic limbs, but that's it, so he's just as vulnerable everywhere else. He can block bullets just fine but getting hit with a car and run over do real damage to him.
  • Big Bad: Mother is revealed to be this at the end of the episode.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Archer's reaction to what Trexler tells him about Woodhouse, and it is the final line in the episode.
  • The Chase: 95% percent of the episode is about Archer and his "crew" trying to escape from Dutch inside Trexler's blood-soaked mansion.
  • Dirty Coward: Figgis tries abandoning Poovey during the confrontation with Dutch.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Dutch ends up becoming this with Mother still left to fulfill the role of the Big Bad.
  • Enemy Mine: All over the place. Archer is the one that ends up freeing Trexler, and they have to team up with Cyril and Poovey while they all escape from Dutch. Only Lana is the Token Good Teammate wanting to arrest them all.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Archer running someone over with his car, even when it's someone as evil as Dutch, will definitely leave people speechless, especially if they have no idea what that person is talking about in his rants.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: To no one's surprise, Figgis is a terrible shot.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Trexler lampshades that the drugs Archer is taking probably aren't a good idea.
  • The Load: Cecil becomes this after getting shot, constantly trying to woo Trinette and Lana, and then lying about dropping the car keys in the manor.
  • The Millstone: Much like real-world Cyril, Figgis is only good for wasting good bullets with his 'Suppressing Fire.'
  • No Kill like Overkill: Archer runs over Dutch three times before taking off, horrifying everyone else who saw it happen.
  • Oh, Crap!: Pretty much everyone's reaction to Dutch being a cyborg.
  • Pet the Dog: Trexler seems to show Archer some compassion before revealing the truth behind Woodhouse's murder.
  • Rule of Three: Three cases of this.
    • Cecil gets hit with three bullets.
    • Lana, Poovey, and Figgis get in a three way Mexican Standoff
    • Archer runs over Dutch three times with his car.
  • Recognizable by Sound: Dutch had crossed paths with Archer before, but the latter's face was hidden. Dutch then recognized his voice, which was why Poovey tried and failed to get Archer to shut up. Dutch thus deduced that Archer took the Chinese women and ran over his legs.
  • Running Gag: Cecil has more or less taken Brent's role of being the human magnet when it comes to attracting bullets.
    • The "Are we jumping into this?" line is cut short in this episode.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Archer has war flashbacks while running over Dutch, seeing a person he ran over in the war. He starts shouting as if going over Dutch is a series of jokes, evidently something he did back then. Naturally, everyone else in the car is aghast and confused.
  • Shout-Out: The way Dutch deflects bullets with his forearms while approaching the group in the mansion is reminiscent of Wonder Woman's technique with her magical bracers.
  • Skewed Priorities: Lana apparently thinks it is a good idea to try to arrest people when they are in the middle of escaping from an insane robot who just murdered a bunch of people and is coming after them.
  • Stunned Silence: Everyone's reaction to Archer running over Dutch.
  • Sword Drag: Dutch does this twice with the halberd.
  • Trauma Button: It isn't unusual for major situations like this to cause a shellshocked veteran to experience pretty nasty flashbacks.
  • Wham Line: Trexler drops the bomb.
    Trexler: Mother killed Woodhouse.
