Recap / Archer S 8 E 8 Auflösung

Go To

The mystery wraps up as Archer gathers everyone at Dreamland.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Poovey can't stop shooting Lana thanks to Archer's gun having an extreme hair trigger.
  • Arc Words: The words Dreamworld/Parallel universe/Infinite Earths are used frequently in the last scene presumably because Archer's subconscious is starting to realize he's dreaming.
  • Ass Pull: There is no real explanation as to how Dutch survived being run over, even though his body is not completely robotic: his head and torso were still exposed. Dutch's reason is: I guess just clean livin'!
  • Bilingual Bonus: "Auflosung" means "Resolution".
  • Bittersweet Ending: Archer finally learns the truth regarding Woodhouse's murder. Dutch receives his due karma, and Archer is no longer working for Mother at the moment. Unfortunately, Lana is dead and Poovey's Chinese sister-wives left. However, Archer is trying to move on with his life, and the Chinese sister-wives are trying to make it on their own.
  • Death by Adaptation: Barry and Lana.
Archer: "Forever and ever! On infinite f*cking Earths!".
  • Decoy Antagonist: Double Subverted in that Dutch is both still alive and Woodhouse's real killer.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: Things could have had a happy ending if it weren't for the fact that Archer's gun has an extreme hair trigger and Lana got shot seven times to death.
  • Downer Ending: Zig-zagged between this and a Bittersweet ending. Archer is still in a coma in the real world, but he is still alive.
  • For the Evulz: Dutch killed Woodhouse. The reason? Just because. He also cut him off in traffic.
  • Impromptu Tracheotomy: The moment the dogs ripped Dutch's throat out, he was as good as dead. It didn't matter that he had robotic appendages.
  • It Works Better with Bullets: Spoofed. Figgis points out that Archer's out of ammo. Archer calmly reloads and puts the gun back in his face.
  • Just Think of the Potential!: Krieger made Dutch a cyborg for good intentions, apparently ignoring the fact that he was a killer before that.
  • Karmic Death: Dutch enjoyed killing people, and now he gets ripped the shreds in a brutal fashion by the dogs owned by the person who gave him his robotic parts.
  • No Ending: The whole side story where Archer's office is ransacked is never resolved. We never know why or who did it.
  • The Power of Love: Zirk's love for Charlotte is what apparently lets him overpower two vicious cyborg hound dogs over Dutch. Then Charlotte brutally breaks his heart when she laughs and declares that there's no way in Hell that she'll love him.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Yes, Woodhouse owed Mother money. Killing him over it doesn't get her that money, so if anything, Mother had reason not to kill him.
  • Riddle for the Ages: We never found out what Woodhouse's note said, or who stole it.
  • Running Gagged: Since the second episode, someone says "So what are we doing? Are we just jumping right into this, or...?" Once per Episode, with the line stopped short last episode. Only the word "So" is uttered before Archer pulls out his gun, finally ending the gag.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: Krieger begged Dutch not to use his powers for evil, but since Dutch was already a psychotic killer before being turned into a cyborg it doesn't really get him anywhere
  • Sickening "Crunch!": When Dutch breaks Archer's arm, and when Zirk kills the dogs.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill:
    • The cyborg dogs rip Dutch to shreds.
    • Followed by Zirk ripping a leg from one of them and breaking the other's mouth apart.
    • Lana is accidentally shot by a gun with a sensitive trigger. She's then shot six more times before finally dying.
  • Villains Never Lie: Toyed with: Archer takes Trexler at his word when Trexler claims Mother killed Woodhouse, and Mother asks why his word is any more solid than hers.
  • The Worf Effect: Zigzagged. Zirk, a hulking brute who has knocked out Archer and Poovey with extreme ease, was taken out almost immediately as he tries to fight Dutch. Oddly enough, Dutch then gets brutally mauled by Krieger's robotic dogs...who then get ripped apart by Zirk. Then again, he was doing it to save Charlotte (who stupidly tossed a chair at the dogs after they finished mauling Dutch).
