Recap / All Hail King Julien S 02 E 14 Are You There Frank Its Me King Julien

Go To

Its time for the monthly offering of gifts to the Sky God Frank and Julien is less than enthused. As all the piles of offering just stay there without any evidence that anyone is taking them, Julien is really beginning to question if Frank is real.

That night, as if answering his prayers, Frank himself (obviously a robot) suddenly appears to Julien and the kingdom with news; Larry the Volcano God is angry and will destroy Madagascar unless King Julien is sacrificed to him. Not wanting to die, Julien speaks to Frank in private to try and beg him to change his mind, but the cockpit opens to reveal Karl.

Following his defeat by wish balloon, Karl had spent his time reading all the wishes and studying lemur religion to figure out how he can use it against them, and devised the plan to impersonate Frank and have Julien killed by his own people. Julien insists that he'll tell them the truth, but no one believes the word of the King over the word of their god.

Realizing the only way to fight a god is with another god, Julien has Timo build a robot in the shape of Larry the Volcano God, but since he forgot to build a door, Mort is the only one small enough to fit inside.

Tropes

  • Animal Religion: Karl has spent some time researching the lemurs' religion and makes it the core of his plan.
  • Appease the Volcano God: Karl's plan is to convince the kingdom that they have to sacrifice Julien to appease their Volcano God Larry.
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: Julien's faith in Frank is restored when Mort gets struck by one of these.
  • Catchphrase Interruptus
Frank/Karl: Don't worry, Julien, this won't hurt a bit! Not-
Julien: "Not yet at least" Yeah, yeah, I know!
  • Continuity Nod: Karl read all of the wish rocks from "Enter the Fanaloka". What is presumably Mort's wish, which had disgusted Maurice and Clover, disgusts him and Chauncey just as much.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Karl didn't plan for his false god routine to happen at the same time as Julien's crisis of faith, it just worked out that way.
  • Crisis of Faith: Julien has a hard time believing in the sky gods when there is no evidence that their monthly offerings are being accepted.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Clover tries to take on Karl, but he just casually flips a switch and Frank Rocket Punches her lights out.
  • Evil Gloating:
Karl: I bet you're wondering how I came up with such an ingenious, uber-complicated plan such as this.
    Julien: No, not really.
Karl: Good, because I'm going to tell you.
  • God Guise: Karl pretends to be the Sky God Frank, so Julien has Mort pretend to be the Volcano God Larry.
  • More Dakka: Both "Larry" and "Frank" are equipped with an absurd amount of weaponry and spend most of their fight simply upping the number of guns they have on each other.
  • Personal Raincloud: When King Julien's backside catches on fire a raincloud appears (presumably sent by Frank) to put out the fire.
  • Shout-Out: The Larry suit projects a holographic heads up display around the pilot's face in way similar to Iron Man
  • Squee: Masikura, the most religiously devout citizen of the kingdom, completely loses it in the presence of "Frank" and "Larry".
  • Title Drop: Almost, but Julien's prayer is "Are you there Frank? It's me, Julien". However, that is the way the title is rendered during the end credits.
  • You Won't Feel a Thing!: Karl tries to combine this with his Catchphrase, but Julien's had enough of it.
