Recap / All Hail King Julien S 02 E 13 The King Who Would Be King

Go To

Maurice decides it's time to introduce Julien to "The King's Chronicles", a tome of stories all written by King Juliens past and tasks Julien to write his own entry. Unable to think of anything, Clover sneaks in and writes her own fanfiction inside, which Julien likes so much he decides to publish and share with the kingdom, which gets him in trouble when they offend someone Clover had based a villain in one of the stories on.

Tropes:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Clover's writes about a huge muscled King Julien with a magic booty and a Emo-Sparkly King Julien
  • Based on a Great Big Lie: Clover's stories are all high fantasy adventures that even include elements of a Creation Myth all attributed to Julien but Julien still markets them as "The Fantastical True Stories of the Grand High King of Lemuria".
  • Brick Joke: Julien drops the book on Mort and he doesn't come out from under it until well into the fast forward sequence.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Julien is briefly seen passing time reading one of Mort's King Julien novels first seen in Enter the Fanaloka
    • When Fred goes on a rampage, one of the things he destroys is a Brown Julien stand.
  • Fast-Forward Gag: A classic VCR security cam one during Julien's "writing process".
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His entry in the King's Chronicles marks the only time in the series Uncle Julien is referred to as "King Julien XII". Notably Julien doesn't realize who that is right away by that name alone.
  • Parental Substitute: Mort sees Clover and Julien as his parents despite being older than the latter as he claims he hates seeing "mommy and daddy fighting" when Julien and Maurice and Mort discovers her writing in the "The King's Chronicles" and she retaliates by throwing Julien across the room and punches him repeatably without checking to see who approached her.
  • Squee: The King's Chronicles is what inspired Clover to become a writer. She has a hard time hiding her enthusiasm about this and about her writing being published and enjoyed as she still doesn't want anyone to know she's a writer.
  • Surprisingly Creepy Moment: The fast forward gag is mostly comedic showing Julien suffering from writers block and otherwise procrastinating at writing, but then suddenly during one of the fast forwards Julien just stands right in front of the "camera" staring blankly toward the screen with bloodshot eyes and doesn't go away until the film distorts.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: The illustration of King Julien II in particular looks remarkably like our King Julien.
  • Writer's Block Montage: The Fast-Forward Gag above depicts Julien struggling for the good part of a day to figure out what he's going to write about himself in the King's Chronicles.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: "King Julien I, ful savorly dide he seke to gaven the world a worthy jape of his wondrous booty-ar"
