They're on the TV show that the Ice King watches.
Finn and Jake find the Ice King has been stealing parts from the princesses of Ooo to make himself a wife.

Tropes

  • Award-Bait Song: Parodied, as Ice King and Princess Monster Wife go and fly through Ice Kingdom; Ice King sings a romantic duet literally by himself with a feminine sounding prerecording for Princess Monster Wife in classic Disney style.
  • Bicep Kiss: Muscle Princess after her arm is returned.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Ice King surgically removes parts of the different princesses without causing any apparent haemorrhaging.
  • Body Horror: The princesses' disfigurement were quite... jarring, but Princess Bubblegum's slobbering, near-unintelligible speech probably sealed the deal.
  • Brain Bleach: After the fashion show ended up in disaster, one of the penguins can be seen smashing its ice chair onto its head, presumably invoking this trope.
  • Brown Note: Princess Monster Wife repeatedly inadvertently knocks Finn and Jake unconscious with her appearance, even when they use mirrors to avoid this. She also makes a penguin puke, again inadvertently.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: A lot of minor princesses from earlier episodes reappear.
  • Continuity Nod: Gunther's kitten offspring from "The Chamber of Frozen Blades" makes a cameo.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode ends up being mostly about Ice King, with Finn and Jake unconscious for much of it.
  • Faint in Shock: Princess Monster Wife's appearance is so horribly disfigured that Finn and Jake cannot look at her without fainting.
  • Flesh Golem: Princess Monster Wife is made from parts of bodies stitched together.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Princess Monster Wife destroys herself by returning all her stolen parts to the princesses who they were cut out of.
  • I Am a Monster: The Princess Monster Wife is quite self-aware, but also self-loathing.
Princess Monster Wife: You... are not normal... you are a monster!
  • Insecure Love Interest: Princess Monster Wife has self-loathing over how her appearance disgusts and horrifies everyone but Ice King, who loves her deeply regardless and wants her to love herself.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: While plenty of princesses are horrified waking up to missing body parts, Muscle Princess just wordlessly kisses the remaining bicep she still has. Skeleton Princess groans and just complains, "This happens sometimes."
  • Metaphorgotten: Courtesy of Ice King: "We're like two normal jelly beans, sitting at the bottom of the jar, floating in a sea of olives, waiting for someone to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar, which I mentioned..."
  • Misplaced Sorrow: Ice King's reaction to Princess Monster Wife giving up her body parts:
Ice King: She... she... gave away all my stuff!
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: In Ice King's first spotlight episode after the revelation of his tragic past in "Holly Jolly Secrets" made everyone feel sorry for him, he shows just how horrifically dangerous he still is.
  • Obliviously Evil: Ice King seems quite genuinely unaware of how horrific his actions in this episode are. When Finn and Jake confront him as the likeliest suspect to steal the princesses' body parts, Ice King acts sincerely fearful that some maniac is doing that, before jovially realizing it's him after revealing Princess Monster Wife.
  • Pinball Protagonist: Finn and Jake spend most of the episode unconscious with shock, and Princess Monster Wife finally destroys herself out of guilt and self-loathing.
  • Planet of Steves: When Ice King calls his penguins together for the fashion show, it's revealed all of them are named Gunther, or something that sounds like it.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Ice King's song and the shots of him flying with Princess Monster Wife parody the "A Whole New World" musical sequence in Aladdin.
    • Princess Monster Wife's self-sacrifice at the end is analogous, though not an exact homage, to the ending of Bride of Frankenstein.
  • Silly Love Song: Invoked by Ice King.
  • Source Music: The Ice King plays his song's backing music and second vocal from two different tape recorders.
  • Voice of the Legion: Princess Monster Wife speaks with the voices of LSP, Princess Bubblegum and Turtle Princess.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: When Gunther can no longer control his reaction to Princess Monster Wife.
