Feeling neglected, Gunther steals one of the Ice King's magic artifacts and creates an army of super-powered clones of himself to conquer all of Ooo.
Tropes
- Call-Back:
- The Ice King's Demonic Wishing Eye, first shown in "When Wedding Bells Thaw," is utilized by Gunter.
- Gunter is still in the habit of breaking bottles, as demonstrated in "Still".
- This is also the first appearance of Gunther's "baby" since "The Chamber of Frozen Blades", outside of a background cameo in "Princess Monster Wife".
- Continuity Nod: Various wizards from "Wizard Battle" reappear, along with Bufo from "Wizard".
- A Day in the Limelight: Gunter has a chance to be a Villain of the Week in this episode.
- Didn't Think This Through:
- Finn tries to distract Gunther with a huge pile of glass bottles for him to break. Unfortunately, he didn't have a plan for what to do about Gunther afterwards, and the hundreds of Gunther clones literally go through the bottles in a matter of seconds.
- Bubblegum’s plan is to rebuild the broken glass bottles, let the Gunters break them, rebuild them again, and so on…forever.
Finn: Bub, your plan...bunks. - Dragon-in-Chief: Gunter proves to be a far more competent villain than The Ice King.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus:
- The Ice King's web search history has some amusing entries that can be briefly seen when he looks up "wizard market" on his computer.
- When the kitten blows up the castle wall, a piece of debris is shaped like Tree Trunks.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: With the magic eye, Gunter goes from an ordinary penguin to a Person of Mass Destruction that almost conquers the Candy Kingdom.
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Ice King looks at the viewer when he says "Wizards only, fools! Keep it tight!", though he appears to just be talking to himself.
- Malaproper: Princess Bubblegum refers to the Gumball Guardians as "calvary" instead of "cavalry".
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: We don't see the Ice King's escape from Wizard City.
- Self-Duplication: Gunter makes an army of green clones of himself and goes on a rampage.
- Shout-Out: Some of the items on the web store that Ice King visits are very similar to items from The Legend of Zelda games.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: When he gets caught spying on Forest Wizard, Laser Wizard, and Bufo, Ice King insists "I didn't hear nothin' about no weird secret wizard club that I wanna be a part of!"
- Swiper, No Swiping!: The episode ends with Ice King simply scolding Gunther into giving up his schemes and returning the Ice King's magic wishing eye.
- That Satisfying "Crunch!": Upset with how he’s been treated by Ice King, Gunter creates hundreds of clones of himself to break every piece of glass he can find.
- Time Out: Ice King tells Gunter to go stand in the corner because he’s annoying him.
