A wizard, a druid and a bard walk into a bar. This isn't the start of a joke, it's the start of a frienship

What do you get when you cross tabletop role-playing, the surreal life of post-graduate studies and a cast of talented young Australians?
Dungeons & Doctorates, of course.

Dungeons & Doctorates is a D&D 5e Actual Play podcast following the adventures of three postgraduates in a fantasy university dealing with supervisors, monsters, and peer-reviewers.

The main campaign follows post-graduate students Harold (human Druid , studying Astronomy), Meredith (halfling Bard, studying Sociology and History), and Potentia (elvish wizard, studying the quantum mechanics of Conjuration), as they study at Firamustus University and get involved in incredible academic adventures (and misadventures).

Dungeons & Doctorates was created by DM Ben Keirnan for Australia's National Science Week in 2020, and has so far had two "seasons", with one-shots and side-campaigns celebrating subsequent Science Weeks, International Women's Day, and various holiday-themed heist campaigns known as "Kobold Kapers"

This work includes examples of:

  • Academy of Adventure: Due to Firamustus University being one of the largest institutions on the continent (if not the world), it has everything a major university would have, but magnified due to the fantastical setting. With an Alchemy Department instead of Chemistry, Artificers instead of Engineering, a Necromancy Department, Barbarians studying Sports Medicine and numerous student societies that could incite events (the Adventurers Appreciation Society and Enigma Society, especially), there is never a dull week for the characters.

  • Halloween Episode: Or "Summer Spirit Moon Festival Episode" Due to Comic-Book Time , there's been only two episodes. The first one makes use of ghosts attacking the trio both on the way to and at an Adventurers Appreciation Society campus party. The second was a guest episode, a high Society party turned murder mystery.

  • You All Meet in an Inn: The three main characters are organised into a group for the University Orientation Week activity in Session Zero. And many of their adventures are started by discussing/overhearing something at one of the University's cafes or bakeries.
