Basic Trope: A Tomboy that actually hates being boyish.

  • Straight: Alex complains why she isn't pretty and ladylike enough.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed:
    • Alex is not actually too much of a tomboy and feels a little bit insecure for being "not as girly as everyone expect her to be", but otherwise she is quite fine of her boyish activities.
    • Alex doesn't really have a problem with partaking in typically male activities or being into typically male stuff, but wishes she wouldn't get odd looks when doing ladylike activities.
  • Justified:
    • Alex's parents Wanted a Son Instead, so they raise her to fit in a masculine role or even raise her as a boy, and when Alex grow up, she struggle with identity crisis and the insecurity comes from her rebellious antic against them.
    • Alex is rejected/criticized/bullied by feminine virtue(s) who she uses to look up to
    • Alex's Love Interest prefers Girly Girl, and sees Alex as a platonic friend or a sister instead of a romantic option.
    • Alex came from a poor family of farmers and/or manual workers, and doesn't have money to buy the latest fashion trends, or invest in the expensive makeup industry.
    • Alex is tall, and there are only plain and masculine choices for her size in clothing stores, much to her dismay.
  • Inverted:
  • Gender Inverted: Alex is In Touch with His Feminine Side and he thinks he should behave more manly than he is.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: ...until she starts thinking about why she doesn't dress and act feminine enough.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: Sometimes Alex hates being boyish, sometimes she is proud of it, and sometimes she feels indifferent about how her looks and acts.
  • Averted: Alex clearly likes being a tomboy.
  • Enforced: "We want a Tomboy character, but not too tomboyish to be pretty, let's add some insecurity for her!"
  • Lampshaded: "WHY can't I be more like a real woman just like them?"
  • Invoked: Alex's mother convinces Alex to behave more like a lady, and correct all of her masculine mannerism.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alex keeps being tomboy, no matter what people may or may not think.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why don't just the Tomboy of this show enjoys doing thing that she like, no matter what kinds of social pressure?, I hate it."
  • Implied: Alex dresses quite masculine and appears as The Eeyore and/or Perpetual Frowner.
  • Plotted A Good Waste: Alex's insecurity is created for An Aesop about Be Yourself.
