Basic Trope: The player character is the only person that can complete the game's objective, even when there are other characters that can do it.

  • Straight: King Alex calls upon Sir Bob and his group of heroes to collect the 6 McGuffins to defeat Emperor Evulz. None of King Alex's troops help Sir Bob find the McGuffins.
  • Exaggerated: King Alex wants Sir Bob to not only to stop Emperor Evulz, but to also help him run the kingdom he's supposed to look after and guard his castle even though he has hundreds of guards.
  • Downplayed: Some of King Alex's soldiers and scholars help Sir Bob find the location of each of the McGuffins, but they all count on him to retrieve them.
  • Justified:
    • Sir Bob's mission is a secret mission, so he can't afford to get help from someone who might reveal his mission.
    • Sir Bob has special powers that make him uniquely suitable for the task.
    • King Alex wants Sir Bob to prove himself, perhaps in order to be a worthy suitor for his daughter Princess Catherine, or to join his elite fighting force.
  • Inverted: Sir Bob is a Useless Protagonist who is unable to do much of anything in the game's story.
  • Subverted: King Alex tells Sir Bob that he is the only one who can do it, but as Bob gets the first McGuffin, someone else has already gotten two of them.
  • Double Subverted: The McGuffins turn out to be fake, and Bob gets the rest of them.
  • Parodied: King Alex calls upon Sir Bob to help him with everyday and mundane tasks such as helping him open a jar of mayonnaise.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: The king sends out his own troops and has them bring Bob with them in case his skills prove valuable. Or he just sends his own troops, and Bob never gets involved at all.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Why am I the only one who ever does anything? Isn't there someone else who could do this too?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: "You know what? No, I'm not going to be the only one who ever does anything. Find someone else to do this, I've done enough!"
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed: "Why the heck should I be the one to do it? Don't you have knights and royal guards that can do it as well?"
  • Reconstructed: "Because this isn't an ordinary mission, my good man. Your skills in the field of espionage and tactical exploitation will allow you to succeed. I could send one of my most able-bodied men, but considering that these six McGuffins are the crests of the six royal families, I wouldn't want a war to be on our hands over something as small as that, now would I?"
