Basic Trope: A living being in an unusual relationship with a member of The Undead, typically a vampire.

  • Straight: Bob is walking home one night when he encounters the elegant and mysterious Alice. After their Meet Cute, they go on a few dates before Bob realizes what she is, but this only heightens their attraction towards one another, and they end up in a committed relationship.
  • Exaggerated: Alice is an immortal, extremely powerful and terrifying freak of nature, whose appearance is anything but pleasant. Bob is totally into her.
  • Downplayed: Bob and Alice are going out when Bob finds out Alice is really into the idea of being a vampire.
  • Justified:
    • From Bob's perspective, Alice is attractive, powerful, and amorous. Alice finds him charming enough to resist chowing down on his jugular.
    • Bob is just into vampires, and Alice has a thing for humans besides their blood.
  • Gender-Inverted: Alice is studying in the campus library when she meets Bob, whose vast (first-hand) knowledge of arcane magic and history attracts her.
  • Subverted: Alice attacks Bob the moment she sees him alone and vulnerable.
  • Double Subverted: ...So she can take him back to her place.
  • Parodied: Bob finds a website — www.findyourboo.com — that specifically organises dates between humans and undead people. It's wildly successful (both the website and the date).
  • Zig Zagged: Bob meets Alice. Bob finds out that Alice is a vampire and dumps her. Then he learns to accept her differentness and tries to win her back. Then we find out that she wasn't a vampire — she's a zombie.
  • Averted: Bob can immediately tell that Alice is not human and wants nothing to do with her.
  • Enforced: "We need to make it clear Alice is a person too. Hey, how about having a human fall in love with her?"
  • Lampshaded: Bob: "I know you're a vampire, but I'm cool with that, even if it is weird and overdone."
  • Invoked: The head vampire of the group Alice is a part of supports the budding couple (whether openly or in secret), hoping to start something to bridge the gap between the living and undead communities.
  • Exploited: Alice knows that Bob thinks vampire chicks are hot and uses that to get him alone before going for the jugular.
  • Defied:
    • Bob finds out that Alice is a vampire and immediately dumps her.
    • Bob pre-screens those he might be interested in to make sure they aren't some kind of undead creature.
  • Discussed:
Head Vampire: "I don't see how your relationship with that human boy could possibly end well."
  • Conversed: "What is with vampires being love interests nowadays?"
  • Implied: Bob meets Alice, and is attracted to her because of a uniqueness he doesn't quite understand.
  • Deconstructed: Though Alice and others like her are attractive, romances with them are a threat to humanity's survival. Thus all such pairs are shunned, leaving countless people depressed and loveless in the name of survival.
  • Reconstructed: Though the undead are surprisingly attractive, people are sensible enough to avoid conversion and interracial love from getting out of control. Thus Bob and Alice are able to be together in peace, even fully knowing the limitations involved.
  • Played For Drama: Bob and Alice are hounded by bigots who attempt to lynch the two of them, citing their love as "unnatural" or comparing it to homosexuality.
