Basic Trope: A monster capable of mass destruction (usually male) and a human (usually female) fall in love.

  • Straight: Monster King, a Wolf Man, falls in love with the human Alice.
  • Exaggerated: Monster King, an Eldritch Abomination hellbent on annihilating the universe performs a Heel–Face Turn after being just friends with Alice.
  • Downplayed:
    • Monster King is just a Gonk and both him and Alice fall in love.
    • Monster King and Alice become good friends, in a more platonic version of this trope.
  • Justified:
    • Monster King is a Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds. He isn't truly evil, he's just in pain.
    • Monster King has Blue-and-Orange Morality. He's not being evil because he's far too distracted being in love with Alice.
    • Monster King truly loves Alice, and that's enough to make him a nicer guy.
    • Monster King is capable of mass destruction, but he's a nice monster and doesn't want to.
  • Gender-Flipped: Monster Queen, a Snake Person, falls in love with the human Bob.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice becomes evil for Monster King.
    • Bob, scary-looking but kind-hearted, falls in love with Scarlett, who is beautiful but worryingly bloodthirsty.
  • Subverted: Monster King only pretends to like Alice, so he can lure her to her demise.
  • Double Subverted: However, Monster King then Became the Mask and has a Romantic Fake–Real Turn.
  • Parodied: Alice kisses Holly Wood Homely Monster King on the cheek and everyone treats it as she just kissed an Eldritch Abomination.
  • Zig Zagged: Being in love with Alice causes the Monster King to enter a Heel–Face Revolving Door.
  • Averted: Alice doesn't fall in love with Monster King and he doesn't fall in love with her.
  • Enforced: The creator wants to deliver a message that not everyone is perfect.
  • Lampshaded: "Wait, are you actually dating that demon?"
  • Exploited:
    • Alice uses Monster Kings love for her to have him do her dirty deeds.
    • Alternatively, she uses the love that Monster King has for her to have him perform a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Defied: Monster King is tempted, but he kills Alice afterwards.
  • Discussed: "Would you have fallen in love with me if I were, say, some kind of terrifying wolf-beast?"
  • Conversed: "It's so nice watching that werewolf guy and his human girlfriend interacting so peacefully, even after he just ripped a deer apart with his bare claws."
  • Deconstructed: After Alice and Monster King settle down, the town thinks it's either weird or plain blasphemous that she's dating something that isn't human and from that point on she's been slowly ostracized and banned from things.
  • Reconstructed: The Monster King saves the townsfolk from destruction, and they accept him as a result.
  • Implied: The Monster King is on the side of good, but he once was evil. When asked why he changed his ways, he says it was because of his wife.
