Nightmare Fuel / Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Go To

  • The Death Chill approaching New York. It's a hot, sunny day and everything seems to be normal until a ferris wheel — and the soundtrack — grind to a halt. Then the storm arrives. On the beach everyone desperately flees (except those with no way to flee, like the Ferris wheel riders) as icicles erupt from the ground while the ferris wheel freezes shut. Before long, New York is frozen over, and a voiceover confirms that people have frozen to death.
    • That those on the beach would be totally exposed due to either their swim or summer wear altogether.
  • Ray’s description of the Death Chill. Accompanied by the visual of Lucky in the middle stages of being frozen solid with no indication that anyone is close enough to rescue her.
Ray: The power to kill by fear itself. Your veins turn to rivers of ice. Your bones crack. And the last thing you see is your own tear ducts freezing up.
  • As the trailer ends, there is a shot of an impossibly tall figure emerging from the icy mist with glowing eyes and long horns. Say hello to Garraka.
  • At least one character is seen getting totally frozen and then being shattered when knocked over—as well as one having his hand be frozen right before the rest of him possibly is as well. That it's legit revealing that this is a Ghostbusters movie where people are definitely going to die when others only implied it—or it was someone like Shandor in the last film who had it coming.
    • The movie revealed that character didn't fall over, Garraka purposely shatter him via freezing him solid and piercing him with a icicle.
  • In the opening scene, one of the people frozen solid was cranking a phonograph. As he froze, his hand broke off and was still attached to the phonograph crank with the man staring at it in horror.
  • After one icicle shooting up from the ground was previously enough to impale a taxi and lift it far off the ground, dozens at a time are seen shooting through the floor of the firehouse (as something else tears at its door and walls), all around the frightened main characters.
  • While subtle compared to the might he demonstrates in the finale, the rage alone emenating from the sphere containing Garraka is enough to freeze every rowdy inmate of Winston's ghost prison into silence. Doubly disturbing when even the malevolent Stay-Puft kids, fragments of Gozer the Sumerian God of Destruction itself, are frightened into submissive attention by the sheer power of the monster trapped within.
  • While Gozer was strong enough to overpower the proton streams, Garraka is outright immune to ordinary streams, and repeatedly proves this. More specifically Garraka is able to produce a state of 0 Kelvin where in particles cease to move entirely utterly breaking the laws of physics.
  • That Melody was killed along with her family in an accidental fire—to the point that as a ghost she's still covered in the flames mostly—and that she says she only avoided having a burnt or disfigured face because she died of smoke inhalation before it got to that point.
  • The fact that Garraka was pulling the spirit out of Phoebe frozen body gives a new chilling perspective of 'Harmless Freezing'. He purposely made sure they can't die and escape to the other side. He purposely trapped them so he can extract their souls, whether to force them to be part of his armies or to torture them for trying to stop him is anyone guess...
  • One of the ghosts on display at the off-site containment facility is simply a pale, vague semblance of a face which stares back at passersby from a pitch black holding cell. It's never shown to pose any kind of threat, but it's the kind of thing you expect to see as a child in bed, scared of the dark because something like that might be looking back at you.
