"Are you the guys on the beach who hate everything? Ewwwwwww!"
"Is this some sort of hip music that I don't understand?"
Julia Sweeney's intro to "Everything about You" as her Saturday Night Live character Pat.

Ugly Kid Joe are an American Hard Rock band from California, best known for their 1991 hit "Everything About You", and their irreverent approach to...everything, basically.

Formed in 1987, they were active until 1997 before breaking up. They reformed in 2010 and have released an EP and a new album since then.

Studio Discography:

  • 1991 - As Ugly as They Wanna Be (EP)
  • 1992 - America's Least Wanted]]
  • 1995 - Menace to Sobriety
  • 1996 - Motel California
  • 2012 - Stairway to Hell (EP)
  • 2015 - Uglier Than They Used ta Be

I hate every trope about you!:

  • Alternate Album Cover: The original release of America's Least Wanted depicts the band's mascot as the Statue of Liberty, Flipping the Bird instead of holding a torch. After several major retailers objected to the crude imagery, the band put together a mocking alternate cover in which their mascot is Bound and Gagged.
  • Bound and Gagged: On the censored cover for America's Least Wanted, the band's mascot has his body tied in rope, his mouth covered by a rag, his hand wrapped in duct tape, and his legs shackled by a ball and chain, mocking the objections retailers raised towards the uncensored cover.
  • Hurricane of Puns: A lot of their discography amounted to the various puns, especially their output from America's Least Wanted to the Stairway to Hell EP.
  • "I Hate" Song: "Everything About You" is mostly about a failed relationship but the singer also mentions a number of other things they hate. The band said the general idea of the song was inspired by an acquaintance who would invariably find something to complain about no matter what they were doing.
  • Mood Whiplash: "Madman" starts off with carnival music and crowd noises...then there's a gunshot and the song, which tells the story of a spree killer at Disneyland, unfolds from there.
  • Punny Name: They came up with "Ugly Kid Joe" after booking a show opening for hair metal band Pretty Boy Floyd. They just wanted to see both names on the flyers, and no-showed the concert.
  • Rock Star Song: "Mr. Recordman" is a tongue-in-cheek plea from a band to their A&R rep about not pressuring them to be something they aren't.
  • Special Guest: Rob Halford of Judas Priest does backing vocals on "Goddamn Devil" from their debut album.
