Are you feeling my timbs my baggy jeans my thug appeal

Joshua Scott Chasez (born August 8, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Chasez and Justin Timberlake were the lead singers of the boy band *NSYNC. Chasez was involved with songwriting and production for the group, including writing the title track for *NSYNC's groundbreaking second album No Strings Attached. His solo album, Schizophrenic, was released in 2004 during the band's then-temporary hiatus.

After the band dissolved, Chasez worked on a follow-up album that was set for release in 2006 or 2007 (tentatively titled Story of Kate), but was ultimately shelved by his label Jive Records. Chasez subsequently left the label and became one of the judges on the MTV show America's Best Dance Crew. He currently works as a songwriter and producer, writing for artists such as NU'EST and McFly.

JC got his professional start in the 90s revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. He was given the nickname JC because there was already another Mouseketeer named Josh on the show.

JC Chasez provides examples of:

  • Adam Westing: Played an exaggerated, obnoxious version of himself in the comedy film Opening Night. Also parodied himself in an episode of What's New, Scooby-Doo?.
  • Break-Up Song: "The Game is Over", "Until Yesterday", "You Ruined Me", "I'm Not Sleeping Alone".
  • Butt-Monkey: Ribbed by his *NSYNC bandmates for always being the last to get a joke.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Wrote quirky, forward-thinking songs for *NSYNC like "Digital Get Down" (which he claimed was about an “online party”), "Space Cowboy", and the video game-inspired "The Game is Over”.
  • Concept Album: What Story of Kate was envisioned as. Kate is meant to be a fictional character who represents a collection of JC's experiences and not any particular one person.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Wrote a track for the Backstreet Boys called “Treat Me Right”. He has also written and produced solo material for AJ McLean.
  • Genre Roulette: Has a wide appreciation for various genres of music, which was displayed in his solo debut Schizophrenic. The album traversed the gamut from urban pop to techno to New Wave and reggae. Kate was to be pop-friendly with hints of Queen and The Beatles.
  • Incredibly Long Note: “Thinking of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)” is a really good one of many.
  • In Da Club: “Some Girls (Dance With Women)”, “Up Against the Wall.” JC is also a fan of trance and electronic music and has collaborated with acts like Basement Jaxx and BT.
  • Intercourse with You: "Give In to Me", "Digital Get Down", "Up Against the Wall", "If You Were My Girl", "One Night Stand", "100 Ways", "All Day Long I Dream About Sex", "Some Girls (Dance with Women)", "Come to Me", "Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love)".
  • Large Ham: Lots of this in *NSYNC's "Thinking of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)" music video, plus working it as Posh Spice in the "U Drive Me Crazy" video.
  • Melismatic Vocals: I mean, look at him go. Seriously.
  • Music Is Politics: Experienced a lot of this for his solo career. His first album received little support from his record label, who poured most of their resources into his bandmate Justin's solo efforts. Schizophrenic, his debut album, was delayed countless times and songs were leaked online without JC's knowledge. Even though Schizophrenic wasn't a hit album, Jive continued to hold onto JC and wrangled him into making a second album at the end of 2004. This album was supposed to be more of a pop record rather than a multitude of different genres like Schizophrenic was. Though it featured production from big names like Timberlake and Timbaland, this album was again delayed for a couple of years, resulting in JC splitting from Jive in 2007. This second album remains unreleased.
  • New Sound Album: JC said the music on Kate could be classified as “intelligent pop music”.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: JC's verse in the Blaque song "Bring It All to Me" has him asking if the listener is feeling his "thug appeal".
  • Shrinking Violet: Subverted. Though JC could be seen as reserved or laid-back, on stage he's an absolute machine who nailed his runs and didn't miss a beat. At the end of the band’s Rock in Rio concert, JC is still running around and jumping on the stage after the other guys have already gone backstage.
Lance Bass: On stage, he’s definitely the wildest one, which if you knew him and hung out with him every day, you would never think that because he’s so laid-back and you know, sleeps a lot, but I guess he’s just saving up his energy.
  • Shout-Out: “One Night Stand” references the film The Ladies Man, which is based on the Saturday Night Live sketch.
Say sweet thang. You know I couldn't help but notice you looking all good over here.
  • Singer-Songwriter
  • The Stoic: Though JC has experienced career setbacks ranging from label politics and the abrupt cancellation of the musical he was set to star in, he maintains a positive attitude.
  • Surfer Dude: JC’s character Wipeout on Emerald Cove, the teen soap on the 90s The Mickey Mouse Club.
  • The Tease: His intro to “For the Girl Who Has Everything” during NSYNC’s tour. Also, this moment from a live performance of "Digital Get Down."
  • Vocal Dissonance: His slight frame and unassuming persona is a striking contrast to his sultry, soulful singing voice.
  • Where It All Began: JC sang the Richard Marx song "Right Here Waiting" as part of his audition for The Mickey Mouse Club. *NSYNC would later collaborate with Richard, who wrote the song "This I Promise You" for the band. In a 2012 show, Richard brought out JC to sing an acoustic version of the song.
