In The Key Of Disney is a cover album by American artist Brian Wilson. Like its title suggests, all songs come from the soundtrack of disney movies.

It is the second of two albums recorded by Brian for Walt Disney Records. He was intially asked about making this album before deciding to work on his Gershwin tribute album Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin first.

Brian Wilson and Disney aren't as separate as people may think. On top of being two landmarks of Californian culture, the latter greatly influenced the former. After a young Brian listened to the song "When You Wish Upon A Star" (from the Pinocchio soundtrack) in 1961, it gave him the inspiration to write what would become "Surfer Girl". Additionally, some composers for Disney films turned out to influence or collaborate with Brian (Randy Newman was a major influence on The Beach Boys' Mount Vernon And Fairway and Elton John co-sang with Brian on his album Gettin' In Over My Head)

Tracklist:

  1. "You've Got A Friend In Me" (from the Toy Story soundtrack)
  2. "The Bare Necessities" (from The Jungle Book (1967) soundtrack)
  3. "Baby Mine" (from the Dumbo soundtrack)
  4. "Kiss The Girl" (from The Little Mermaid (1989) soundtrack)
  5. "Colors Of The Wind" (from the Pocahontas soundtrack)
  6. "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" (from The Lion King (1994) soundtrack)
  7. "We Belong Together" (from the Toy Story 3 soundtrack)
  8. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" (from The Lion King soundtrack)
  9. "Stay Awake" (from the Mary Poppins soundtrack)
  10. "Heigh-Ho / Whistle While You Work / Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me)" (from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs soundtrack and the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack)
  11. "When You Wish Upon A Star" (from the Pinocchio soundtrack)

In the key of tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: "Kiss The Girl"
    My oh my
Looks like the boy's too shy
    Ain't gonna kiss the girl
  • Ambiguous Ending: "Kiss The Girl" ends without us knowing if the boy did kiss the girl or not.
  • Broken Record: "You've Got A Friend In Me"
You've got a friend in me now
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me now
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me now
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
  • Cover Album
  • Cover Version: All songs are covers of Disney soundtrack songs.
  • Follow Your Heart: "When You Wish Upon A Star":
If your heart is in your dream
    No request is too extreme
  • Forceful Kiss: Played in an indirect manner and attempted on "Kiss The Girl" which has a character urging a boy to kiss a girl.
  • Friendship Song: "You've Got A Friend In Me"
  • Green Aesop: "Colors Of The Wind":
You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
  • Hakuna Matata: "The Bare Necessities" (ironically, the actual Lion King song isn't covered on this album)
  • "I Want" Song: "I Just Can't Wait To Be King"
  • Limited Lyrics Song: "Stay Awake":
Stay awake, don't rest your head
Don't lie down upon your bed
While the moon drifts in the skies
Stay awake, don't close your eyes
Though the world is fast asleep
Though your pillow is soft and deep
You're not sleepy as you seem
Stay awake, don't nod and dream
  • Make a Wish: "When You Wish Upon A Star"
  • Medley: "Heigh-Ho / Whistle While You Work / Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me)"
  • The Power of Love: "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?"
And can you feel the love tonight? How it's laid to rest
It's enough to make kings and vagabonds believe the very best
