Surfer Girl is the third album by American rock band The Beach Boys. It is the first album to feature Brian Wilson as a sole producer (and he would keep that role for the next 8 albums). Al Jardine, who was out of the band during that period, contributed on one song ("South Bay Surfer").

Just like their previous album Surfin' USA, surfing is the main theme for most of the tracklist. On one occasion, Brian ventures into introspective and intimate songwriting with "In My Room" which would turn out to be a classic song in the band's catalog. The title track was also a huge success and has been constantly played live for decades.

Principal Members:

  • Album Title Drop: On the Title Track:
    Little surfer little one
Made my heart come all undone
Do you love me, do you surfer girl
  • Arc Words: The word "Surfer" appears five times on the tracklist. You can't say it's a hot-rod album!
  • Car Song: "Little Deuce Coupe" and "Our Car Club".
  • Cover Version: "South Bay Surfers" is based on the minstrel song "Old Folks At Home".
  • Face on the Cover: The iconic cover art was taken as a reference for the Beach Boys memorial located at Hawthorne, CA (the town where most of the band came from). One major difference is the addition of Al Jardine to the memorial statue, since he is a founding member.
  • Instrumentals: "Rocking Surfer" and "Boogie Woodie"
  • Location Song: "Hawaii" and "South Bay Surfers".
  • One-Woman Song: "Surfer Girl".
  • One-Word Title: "Hawaii".
  • Special Guest: Mike Love's sister Maureen plays the harp on "Catch a Wave" and "In My Room". She would go on to play in the band Pink Martini.
  • Step Up to the Microphone: Dennis sings on "Surfer's Rule", which is fitting since he was the only member of the band who practiced surfing.
