Blackmill is an electronic music producer that was founded by Scotland native Robert J Card and established in 2008. Card, since he was 14 years old, had been putting together Trance music and when Card moved to Ohio, paired up with some of the local DJs and formed Blackmill, named after the Scottish city.

Blackmill released their first album in 2011 called A Reach for Glory. Later that year, their second album, Miracle, was released.

Blackmill is known for his self-dubbed "Melodic Dubstep". Since the release of his albums, breakout songs like "Let it be ft Veela", "Evil Beauty", "The Drift", and his remix of "Your Song" by EltonJohn have helped define chill electronic music. Although Blackmill hasn't released an album since "Miracle", his fanbase has increased dramatically and Blackmill has become a leading face in Electronic music. Heavily relying on the piano, synths, non-lyrical vocals, and some form of dubstep, Blackmill is a leading pioneer in modern chill electronic music. And we all love the squirrel on his album covers

Blackmill provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Electronic Music: All of his music is electronic and is a major contributor to the chillstep genre.
  • Limited Lyrics Song: "Don't Let Me Down", "Oh Miah", amongst others. Usually if it is an original song, it has little to no variance in lyrics.
    • Recently, he has been making more songs with fully realized lyrics. "Feel That Love Again," "Child," and "Fortune Soul" all avert this trope.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Blackmill is known for his use of a squirrel on his albums.
  • Sampling: Blackmill samples a lot of natural sounds in his songs, and makes it more natural for listeners.
  • Title Track: "Miracle" was, for several years, the only song with an official YouTube music video (that is not the song being played against a painting or photo). On June 15, 2015, "Feel That Love Again" became his second.
