Most Annoying Sound / Sonic the Hedgehog

Go To

  • Taking a hit and losing your rings. BRIIIIING!
  • In the Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games, the sound of bumpers will get old very, very fast.
  • The jump sound and braking sound in both Sonic the Hedgehog CD and Knuckles Chaotix. Rather than being PSG-based like the Mega Drive titles, the sound designers made them FM-based, much to the annoyance of those who are used to hearing the PSG-based sounds from other titles.
  • Try playing SegaSonic the Hedgehog while listening to Sonic, Mighty, and Ray scream their heads off all the dang time!
  • It's heavily recommended to turn down the volume of your TV if you go to the options menu of Sonic Spinball. Or you will listen to this.
  • In just about every game since Sonic Adventure, almost all of the bosses in which Eggman is ANYWHERE in the general vicinity have him calling out something very loud very frequently, which can get very annoying very quickly. Two of the most well-known examples are:
    • GET A LOAD OF THIS!! GET A LOAD OF THIS!! GET A LOAD OF THIS!! (From the Egg Viper and Egg Walker bosses in Sonic Adventure)
    • And YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, THE MORE THE MERRIER! YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, THE MORE THE MERRIER! (From the Egg Breaker boss from Shadow the Hedgehog)
  • Sonic Adventure:
    • "No way, I can't believe this!"
    • The Mayan chanting in the Background Music of the Mystic Ruins Adventure Field. Which you'll have to hear a lot of.
    • Even worse is the 2-second drumming loop that plays when a character is transported to the past.
    • The opening to Amy's theme. Expect to hear "Buh buh bayah baaaaayah" a lot, especially in her playthrough.
    • The Chao are capable of some tremendously obnoxious singing.
  • Sonic Adventure 2:
    • Same game, same exact situation: "I'm not done with you! SONIC WIND!"
    • Also, "Here I come! Get ready! BLACK WAVE!"
    • Even the victory speeches: "I'll play with you some other time!" Not annoying, you say? Try doing the all-boss challenge.
    • The sound that King Boom Boo makes: "BLLAAARGH BLLARGH! Brararar!" And if you run too fast, he'll turn around to chase you the other way, resulting in an extremely annoying "Breeeebreeee! Breeeeehbeeeee! Nyehahahaha!"
    • You'll likely be very confused once you start Rouge's Dry Lagoon and hear endless whining from the distance. You'll soon see it's a turtle stuck in its shell that's being attacked by two GUN robots... And the turtle will keep echoing its voice through the level if you ignore it, not helping it's got a voice similar to Tails' for some reason.
    • If you're too cheap to buy fruits, you can simply pet a Chao for it to gain Hero or Dark attributes, depending on the characters alignment. Unfortunately, you have to pet them quite a lot to get to that maximum, and every time you pet a Chao, your character says something. This results in "So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute! So cute!...." Made even worse if you're trying to get a Chaos Chao. You need to have your Chao love and adore at least one character, and the only way to do it fast is to pet it. Try having "Now there... Now there... Now there... " done over FIFTY TIMES IN A ROW.
    • The drowning music is either this or Nightmare Fuel depending on who you ask.
    • During the final battle of either the Hero or Dark side, you get to hear Shadow saying, "This is the ultimate! This is the ultimate! This is the ultimate! This is the ultimate! This is the ultimate!" or Sonic saying, "I'll use your Chaos Control! I'll use your Chaos Control! I'll use your Chaos Control! I'll use your Chaos Control! I'll use your Chaos Control!"
  • Sonic Heroes:
    • The grunts characters made when doing just about any attack. Especially Knuckles' "SHIFT! MOOROCK! NYEUH!"
    • Changing characters, which you have to very often, every level. "Leave it to me! "I'll take it from here!" "Here we go!" "Let's go!" ARRRRGH!
    • "Take this! Take this! Take this! Take this!" (From the Egg Emperor)
  • Sonic Rush: For all the normal bosses, Tails or Cream will cheer Sonic and Blaze on, respectively. This mostly amounts to "THAT'S IT, SONIC! THAT'S IT, SONIC! NOOOO, SONIC! THAT'S IT, SONIC!" (at least for the former).
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (2006):
  • Sonic and the Secret Rings: As with Amy's theme in Sonic Adventure, the opening to the main theme of the game "Seven Rings in Hand", which plays every time you're at the level menu. While it's a pretty good song, expect to hear "Make believes reborn!" many, many times.
  • Sonic Unleashed:
    • Eggman loves to use Silver's quotes: "YOU LITTLE? YOU LITTLE!"
    • You'll hear the Werehog Battle theme music a lot. Granted, it's a decent composition in its own right, but you'll hear it so damn much!
    • Sonic screaming as he falls to his death in Werehog mode.
  • Sonic Generations:
    • It would be easier to say EVERY line from the final battle is done to death.note
    • TIME FOR A CHANGE OF PACE!! TIME FOR A CHANGE OF PACE!! TIME FOR A CHANGE OF PACE!! (Egg Dragoon)
  • Sonic's "WHOOOOOAAA!!!" when he dies in '06, Generations, and Lost World 3DS.
  • Virtually all the in-game dialogue for Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric gets this treatment. Hearing insipid things like "Bounce pad!" at least ten times in the course of an hour wears on you quick.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Sonic Superstars get hit with this real bad for their repeated poor use of Sonic 1/Sonic 2 snares in their respective soundtracks. It's especially egregious in the latter, considering most of the back half of its stage themes start going for a faux-Genesis style that ultimately tarnishes their otherwise excellent composition; Cyber Station's zone theme in particular has a Genesis snare Jump Scare when it starts!
