Morality Pets in Fan Works.

Crossovers
  • Rainbow Dash plays this role toward Firefly in the first few chapters of Ace Combat: The Equestrian War.
  • Child of the Storm has Harry become this to the Avengers, who are — like their MCU counterparts — something of an Anti-Hero Team, and Doctor Strange. Indeed, Bucky explicitly remarks in the sequel how his extension of the Power of Trust tends to bring out the better natures of people who didn't even know they had them.
    • In turn, Harry has three particular ones as he becomes more of an Anti-Hero himself: Luna Lovegood (who helps rein in his anger and becomes a Morality Chain Beyond the Grave), Carol Danvers (who's also a Morality Chain, being willing to comfort him and call him out as appropriate, and both are why they hold off dating, as it would be a hideously codependent relationship), and Clark Kent (who Harry sees as a little brother and whose innocence Harry wants very much to protect, which is why he tries to live up to Clark's purer and stricter morals).
  • Fates Collide: Lancelot is a mindless Berserker, but he still recognizes his daughter Mash and calms down when she is near.
  • In Fulfilling the Function, Xander accidentally becomes this for his online friend who turns out to be Skynet.
  • In the Ranma and other things Fanfic Hybrid Theory, Akane is a subversion of this. She and Chris think that his promise to her is keeping him from descending into true villain-hood, but it doesn't end up meaning much at all.
  • Original Character Suzie is this for Harry/Tristan in The Jaded Eyes Series, they grew up together at the Orphanage of Fear and she's like a little sister to him. Also Harry/Tristan himself acts as one for Voldemort, helping him to reign in his madness.
  • In The Necromancer, Henry is clearly this for Regina; while Sauron abducts Henry to encourage Regina to side with him, once Regina learns the full scale of Sauron's plan, her affection for Henry convinces her to side with the heroes against Sauron.
  • The Doom Slayer in Remnant Inferis: DOOM is a violent Unscrupulous Hero who's very confrontational and hard to approach. Ruby and Yang are among the few people that can actually get him to be something resembling polite. VEGA even calls them the Slayer's "stabilizing influences".
  • RWBY: Epic of Remnant: Gudako is the only person Angra Mainyu cares about. He fights for the survival of humanity not because he cares about them, but because it is what Gudako would want.
  • Deconstructed in SAPR, where Sunset Shimmer starts off selfish and cruel, but soon becomes more caring and protective as she bonds with her teammates (Ruby, Pyrrha, and Jaune). However, this initially takes the form of her only valuing them, meaning when it comes to deciding whether or not to stop the Breach and protect the city of Vale from an onslaught of Grimm, she chooses to let it happen on the basis that it would give her friends a (slightly) better chance of survival.
  • In Say It Thrice, it's two years since the events of Beetlejuice, and Lydia has grown into this for the eponymous poltergeist. They're very much Like Brother and Sister, and while Betelgeuse continues to maintain his very carefully constructed reputation for being The Dreaded to other ghosts, there's absolutely nothing he won't do for "my girl."
  • In Teenage Jinchuriki Shinobi, Himeko, Sasuke's younger cousin. Unlike in canon, Sasuke does not make a Face–Heel Turn. This could be attributed to the fact that both Himeko is still living and that he cares for her after the Uchiha massacre, and that Naruto is his best friend here and they have more of a Friendly Rivalry here rather than a bitter one.
  • Not explicitly stated so far, but in A Witching Happiness, Mildred Hubble (The Worst Witch (2017 series)) appears to be this for her father Alec Trevelyan (GoldenEye, although in an alternate continuity making reference to Spectre), as learning that he has a daughter who sees him as a hero makes Alec question some of his own perceptions of his past actions.
  • Deconstructed by Drake & Josh in With Pearl and Ruby Glowing with regards to Enfant Terrible Megan:
"It wasn't that, not exactly. She's… She has friends from school and stuff. She plays with them and she loves Mom and Dad. Maybe that's just for show, or maybe… I dunno. On TV, they always make it seem like the bad guys aren't that bad as long as they care about something. In real life though… Well, I guess you know about Viridiana - he doesn't have anyone here, right? Guy's a total b-word, but he really loved his kid, that's what people said anyway, when he disappeared and everyone was wondering if it was him…" He coughs. "Anyway, maybe caring about one person doesn't matter so much - no matter how much you care about them - if you aren't willing to do half that for anybody else."

Amphibia

  • Sasha and the Frogs: The Plantars are slowly bringing out some of Sasha's more redeemable aspects of herself.

Alien

  • In "Alien- Nemesis", a sequel to Alien: Resurrection where Hicks, Newt and Bishop are brought back to life, it is established that Call served this role for Ripley 8 for a time, helping to keep Ripley calm when her 'Xenomorph' side (which has developed into a new identity that refers to itself as 'Raksha'), with the restored Newt taking on this role after Ripley learns she's alive.

The Black Cauldron

Bleach

  • In the Fanfic series Heirverse, Cherry for everyone and Gin to an extent for Aizen Subverted in Heir

Brightburn

  • The fanfic A Monster's Nature basically makes Caitlyn Connor this for Brandon Breyer; while he's still intending to 'take the world', Caitlyn does manage to talk him down to the point where he won't just go around smashing occupied buildings, with his 'victims' to date only people who were actively attempting to stop him or hinder his efforts (granted, these include his parents and Caitlyn's temporary boyfriend, but at least he isn't crashing a passenger jet just because it's there).

Channel Awesome

  • Chester A. Bum is this for people in the club. He gives them something to look after, which is what they need.

The Fairly OddParents!

  • Amanda Adams from Never Had a Friend Like Me is this to Norm the Genie, or to be specific, grows into. Her selflessness annoys Norm at first, but soon it wins him over, and he goes from waiting for her to make a selfish wish he can mess up, to giving her a beautiful dress, no wish required. It is more telling when Amanda becomes Timmy's friend, he at goes from wanting revenge on Timmy, but keeping Amanda out of it to saving his life when the Pixies and Anti-Fairies decide to off him and Amanda.

Fire Emblem

  • A Brighter Dark: Corrin isn't a bad person, per se, but she can often tend to lean on the side of violence and cheap thrills. Unless of course she learns that one of her friends is in serious need.
    • Absurdly enough, Sakura somehow manages to become one for Hans when she convinces him to show mercy to a wounded and unarmed enemy.

The Ghost and Molly McGee

Godzilla

Hannah Montana

  • While Miley and Lilly were never evil, the fic "Amiss" and its sequel "The Long Way", looking at a world where Miley was unable to undo her wish that she could be Hannah all the time, make it clear that the two girls were this to each other. In the world created by Miley's wish, without Lilly to temper some of Miley's celebrity excesses, Miley had to deal with all the burdens of being a celebrity without an opportunity to relax, making mistakes such as endorsing Oh Wow! perfume despite her distaste for the smell and turning to alcohol for some form of relief. For Lilly's part, after Angel arranges for her to join Miley in this world, Lilly comes to realise that her other self fell in with Amber and Ashley because without Miley's friendship, she lacked a suitably strong-willed friend who would accept Lilly as herself, with alt-Lilly giving into peer pressure and humiliating Oliver in public to make herself look good to the other girls. Having Lily back in her life gives Miley the strength to quit being Hannah and call out her father's new wife to confirm that the other woman was just a Gold Digger, Miley recognising that she needs to focus on being herself rather than a celebrity for a while.

Harry Potter

The Hunger Games

Invader Zim

  • Invader Zim: A Bad Thing Never Ends:
    • Minimoose is the only being in the entire story that Zim ever shows any affection and care for.
    • Similarly, MiMi is this to Tak, who surprises herself with how much she cares about her. To hammer the point home, Tak actually refers to MiMi as her friend in Chapter 15.
    • The Minion Trio eventually all admit that they care for Minimoose too.

Jennifer's Body

  • In Love on the Run, Needy serves as this for Jennifer, letting Jennifer 'feed' off her in small doses while she tries to find a cure for her possession. When Needy visits an occult shop looking for a particular book to help her find a cure for Jennifer, the owner guesses what Needy is doing based on her bite marks and bruises. Although he assumes Needy's partner is male rather than female, he is correct to warn Needy that the demon must be gaining control based on how her injuries are starting to show teeth marks, although he compliments how much Needy's partner must love her to have held back for this long.

The Legend of Zelda

  • FFS, I Believe in You: Gerald is this for General Isolda, being the one person towards whom the cruel, dangerous warlord is consistently nice to — in fact, she's explicitly the only person to consider him a friend and treat him and his ideas with a minimum of respect.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

  • In LXG 2: Above & Beyond, Skinner basically becomes this for Henry Jekyll; Edward Hyde is in the middle of torturing Skinner for his apparent treachery when he witnesses a second invisible man after he’s broken Skinner’s arm, inspiring Jekyll to retake control so that he can treat Skinner’s injury.
  • Elizabeth Quatermain is a cross between this and the Protectorate for Gentleman Thief Skinner.

Metal Gear

  • Adamska's love for Otacon and his alternate-future self's love for Big Boss in Stray.

Mortal Kombat

  • Meat becomes this to Mileena in one chapter of Mortal Kombat Khronicles, where after finding him as little more than a living, blood and gore covered skeleton with eyes, she takes pity on him as a fellow one of Shang Tsung's experiments. Ultimately putting her life on the line to help give him a more proper body and a place to stay, behind the back of her current master, Onaga. She also has a genuine romance with Tanya and friendship with Baraka.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

Naruto

  • A Father's Wrath: Naruto serves as this to his father; a lot of things Orochimaru does are for his son's benefit.
  • your move, instigator (draw your weapon and hold your tongue): As the Third Shinobi War rages on years past its canonical end, Team 14 — made up of Sakura, Kiba and Tenten — serve this role for a gradually increasing number of adults. Mainly as their presence reminds everyone that Konoha is fielding literal Child Soldiers, with Sakura having her first combat experience at the tender age of five. The longer they survive, and the more battlefields they visit, the harder it becomes from older shinobi to continue justifying their presence.

Odd Squad

  • A Dip in the Inkwell: Olive serves as one to Todd in "Agent Recall". In spite of what he's done, she still gives him a second chance and doesn't try to drastically change his personality to make him good, instead taking his already-existing personality traits and putting them to use on the side of good rather than evil.

Pokémon

  • In Pokemon: Shadow of Time, after reality is reconstructed with Ash the only survivor, Misty of the new timeline ends up essentially getting her own prior-timeline-self as one, as a 'psychic imprint' of the original Misty appears to her and advises her not to kill the grunts attacking the ship she's currently on.
  • In the fanfic Travels of the Trifecta!, Conway and Reggie both at least try to be this trope for Paul, although Reggie is a lot more successful at it, being his older brother who he actually does care for on some level.

Rise of the Guardians

Smallville

  • In the fic En Tempus Veritas, Lois and Clark's son Jonathan appeared to be this for Jor-El; not only does the A.I. express a sense of genuine warmth when talking about his ‘grandson’, but when Clark agrees to begin his training so long as it won’t take him away from his family, Jor-El agrees because ‘fathers should not be separated from their sons’, with the A.I. recalling the pain and loss the original felt when he had to send his son away to save Kal-El’s life.

Sonic the Hedgehog

  • In Prison Island Break, Shadow has no less than three morality pets. Amy is the most obvious, being the only person who's kindness and concern is capable of calming him down. Silver gives him the responsibility he needs to mature, and this time it's Shadow's concern for his son that keeps him under control. Finally there's Sonia, who's faith and encouragement gives Shadow the confidence to better himself. Sonic acts as this too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Star Trek

  • "Aen'rhien Vailiuri": Jaleh and Tovan tr'Khev discuss the possibility of Jaleh becoming one for Morgan. Note Morgan's more of an Anti-Hero by way of Deliberate Values Dissonance.
Tovan: ... ultimately she’s leih of this warbird and she’s going to run it the way she wants. If you want to change her, you’re going to have to work at it.
  • The Star Trek (2009) fic Safe and Sound has Lucille Harewood (the little girl in the opening of the second film) be this for Khan. She is able to stop him from killing the man who killed most of his crew, and by the end of the story, he decides to accept Starfleet's offer of rehabilitation for her sake.
  • Towards the end of the fic Written in the Stars, Spock begins to suffer the effects of Pon Farr which causes him to become feral, reverting back to what Vulcans were like before the teachings of Surak. He's in such a state that he doesn't recognize any of the crew and attacks anyone who comes near him...apart from Fem!Kirk. She's the only one he still seems to recognize and even defends her from a group of other Vulcans in a crazed state.
    • In both Mirror universes (the original and the alt reality version) the evil versions of Spock and Fem!Kirk are each other's Morality Pet. And to a lesser extent, their crew is this to them, too.

Star Wars

  • Blood and Honor: Vette acts as this for Sanguis, who, especially early on, still has dark side leanings. Vette gradually helps her employer change her outlook on slaves, Jedi and aliens, and the two bond over their mutual lack of family.
  • In a sense, Shmi was this for Vader in the fic Eros Turannos; even after believing Shmi died in an accident when he was four years old, Vader still kept a memento of her in his rooms, with Padme explicitly stating that Shmi kept whatever was left of Anakin alive in Vader until their reunion (although Padme takes on this role as well as her relationship with Vader deepens).
  • In the fic The Lost Child, even after turning to the Dark Side, Anakin still cares about Ahsoka enough to let her live.

Terminator

  • In the Terminator Genisys fic "A Fracture in Time", the ‘reprogrammed’ John Connor starts to go against Skynet’s programming when he meets Kate Brewster (his wife in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) in the new timeline, his initial friendship with her helping John assert his humanity and ultimately join his parents in trying to stop Skynet.

The Twilight Saga

  • In Before The Dawn, Bella is turned into a vampire after she's raped and impregnated by Joham, who subsequently spends a month raising Bella's son Alexander before the Cullens help Bella get him back. While Alexander is never a full-on villain, his time being raised by Joham initially leaves Alexander with some particular views regarding how he is "allowed" to feed on humans because he is superior, which Bella and the Cullens do their best to talk him out of. Alexander becomes more aware of human needs after he's introduced to Charlie, and Bella stops Alexander's last recorded plea to be allowed human blood when Bella asks him how it would feel if someone killed 'Grandpa Charlie' because they wanted human blood, giving Alexander a chance to face the full implications of what he would do if he killed someone.

Warrior Cats

  • Better Bones AU: Russetfur acts as this to Blackstar as well as a Morality Chain, with Blackstar being inspired to be a better cat because of her.
