The meme. Explanation The explanation behind the meme.
Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
Screaming SpiderExplanationA screaming spider icon that can be found in the Treasure Room has become quite popular among the community for its overly comedic look. The robot obtained for collecting 35 Fire Shards and the cube obtained for opening 100 chests have also received similar treatment.
The Pink Bug ("Розовый Хрущ")Explanation This screaming spider icon is famous in Russian community because a YouTuberDeCody made a song about it that continuously repeats something like "It's a pink bug. Looking ahead. Window's so dark That he can't understand", which is like a remake of a Russian meme song with the same lyrics, but originally there was a pink goose instead of a pink bug.
For Michi/Every level needs a tripleExplanationFormer #1 player on the global leaderboard Michigun's love of triple spikes has reached memetic status, with many creators jokingly (and with his passing in 2021, respectfully) dedicating triple spikes in their levels to him.
TrusTa in a nutshellExplanationTrusTa, the verifier of Yatagarasu, gave the level a few slight nerfs to get the level out faster. People have since exaggerated this into the guy straight-up ruining the level, sometimes extending this to other levels. TrusTa himself appears to be in on the joke, as this video is his second mention of it.
TrusTa's nerf gunExplanationFollowing the above meme's death, a common joke within many GD players is that TrusTa used a Nerf-branded toy gun to nerf Yatagarasu. Another variation is "I stole TrusTa's gun". This has been used for other players who nerfed similarly hard levels, such as Rico LP's nerfing of Blade of Justice.
VAMOS SOULSExplanationPays homage to skilled Spanish player SoulsTRK. This phrase is said whenever cheering for extremely skilled people who attempt to beat extreme demons, or not-as-skilled people gradually progressing through easier ones.
VAMOS PENES
The chicken is on fireExplanationRobTop once posted the phrase "The chicken is in the oven" on a Twitch stream; leading many to think that Update 2.1 has been submitted to Apple. The update still didn't release after the normal two-week period of review passed, leading many people to believe that the aforementioned chicken started burning. It's made its way into the game.
Have you sent it to RobTop yet?ExplanationIn Etzer's video "How to get your level featured", one of the "tips" that he mentions is to beg for a moderator to notice the level so it gets rated and featured. This specific phrase, used to check if the mod has sent the level to RobTop for a feature review, is spammed multiple times in the video, leading other people to spam the phrase outside of the video as well.
Why is my song not working? Explanation Post February 2017, after Geometry Dash came back up on the Steam store with an update in place; more than a few people entirely missed the memo that RobTop has to personally approve any musician who wants their music used in the game. Does not stop people from asking the moderators of Newgrounds to help get their songs used though...
NOOOOOO! ExplanationMefewe's infamous Big "NO!" after getting 98% on a buffed Sonic Wave copy. It originated from the stream it happened on, the video Mefewe uploaded of the fail excluded it.
(level) but every click is replaced by a GD reaction noise.
Clubstep Monsters. ExplanationTheir popularity with level creators seems to be widely mocked nowadays. The meme most likely originated from Twitter user Committee of Clubstep. Usually paired with the monster from JonathanGD's part in Mystic by EndLevel.
Clubette.
OH MY GOD! *intense high-pitched breathing*ExplanationIn NPesta'sverification of Kenos, his reaction to beating it has become famous for how insanely over-the-top it is. A justified reaction, as it was in the top 10 of most difficult Extreme Demons on the Official Demon List following release, but still.
After a mental breakdown...Explanation Another meme mocking over the top reactions, this one comes from Bo's verification video of VSC, which was considered to be the hardest wave challenge level. After it was later discovered to be hacked, people ended up mocking it to no end.
Some of Riot's reactions briefly became stock reaction clips within the community.
Back on Track is the hardest levelExplanationA common joke among the Geometry Dash community is to call very easy levels "impossible demons" that no player have passed legitimately. Back on Track (the second main level) is a frequent victim of this joke, as it is considered the easiest of every official level.
Viprin + PasteExplanationViprin's levels are often criticized for using the same designs over and over in the same part, which led people to believe that Viprin's levels use a heavy amount of copy and paste. Became an Ascended Meme when the words "+ paste" was added under Viprin's name in the Community Shop credits.
At 100% speed, does this look possible to you?ExplanationBack in 2015, YouTuberTheMuteTroll made a video titled "Geometry Dash YouTubers: Skilled or Hackers?" in which one piece of evidence he used to support his claims of YouTubers hacking was a clip of at the time popular player Noobas completing a once infamously difficult wave section in the level "DeCode". While this evidence was quite damning back then, nowadays, DeCode is considered a fairly easy demon and completing the wave is not a particularly impressive achievement, so using this as evidence of hacking in retrospect is amusing.
Enter the CityExplanationThe text that precedes the drop in the level Ithacropolis. In some cases, this phrase would be used before the drop in some user levels.
LDM ball cube ball big cube ball next Rest In Peace niflheim vismuth slow wave fast robot keep going! slow ship go! slow ball Auto? fast dual ship slow fast ufo slow How? fast ship slow cube fast ball lol slow robot in out slow ufo take a break ????? !!!!! ?? ?! ??! !! ?! !! ?!!? ??! !! ?!!? ??! ?! ?? !! ?? !! ?? ?! ??! ?!!? ?? ??! ?! !! ?!!? slow ufo go! go! Yeah! fast cube dual wave watch out! faster! OMG! mini next next great! verified by NIFLHEIM koreaqwerExplanationA copypasta containing every text seen in the level Niflheim. The mish-mash of words and punctuation marks in the paragraph make it an ironic meme, with users pasting the paragraph on random occasions.
You Manix-ed the Mom levelExplanationA Geometry Dash-themed Mother's Day tweet posted by the official Google Play account became viral in the GD community due to the weird phrasing of the message as well as misuse of GD terminology (Manix is a creator, not a verb). This quote actually inspired some people to make levels named "Mom Level".
Geometry Dash MashupsExplanationIronic edits of famous Geometry Dash/Newgrounds music that usually take a popular Newgrounds song and put the lyrics from a pop or meme song on it. For example, this video mashes up dj-Nate's "Thermodynamix" (specifically the segment used in Acheron) with LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It".
Is that a Geometry Dash reference?ExplanationGeometry Dash References is a Twitter account that posts images with "references" to Geometry Dash. These "references" can either be a level name, a gameplay form, player icons, or quotes and memes of the community. Since then, this phrase may be said in GD-related forums when something in real life contains such "references" to the game.
She's in love with the conceptExplanationThe opening lyrics to EDEN's "XO", which provides the soundtrack to a 1.0-styled Extreme Demon by KrMaL (albeit the song being covered by AaronMusslewhite). Much like the Niflheim text above, the lyrics to "XO" has also become a popular copypasta in the Geometry Dash community, and in some cases, lyric chains in the comments between various users.
Check SteamExplanationRobTop allegedly said this on a Twitch stream just as update 2.1 was released. It resurfaced following the announcement of update 2.2's release window, with many players using the quote to deliver false news about 2.2's release. There's even a rated level named "Check Steam". Became an Ascended Meme after RobTop himself used it to announce 2.2's release.
Congregation Jumpscares.ExplanationA YouTube channel whose gimmick is posting Bait-and-Switch videos, usually involving transitions into Congregation, an Extreme Demon infamous for its precise timing and sudden beat drop became popular in 2023.
Bloodbath/Acheron/Slaughterhouse/etc. JumpscaresExplanationSince the popularity of Congregation Jumpscares, other people also attempted in making "jumpscare" levels and videos of their own, usually involving another popular Extreme Demon as the level being transitioned into.
Dash Spider JumpscaresExplanationIn GD Colon's video analysis on "Dash" (the game's 22nd official level), he criticises a poorly-designed section in the level where the player has to control a spider going sideways. He takes a break shortly after to discuss "The Challenge", only for the gameplay to be suddenly replaced by the aforementioned spider part. Shortly after the video's release, it became popular in the community to recreate the spider part in the style of other Geometry Dash levels, while often mentioning sightreading.
Devil Vortex SawsExplanationIn 2018, Npesta uploaded a video accusing ToshDeluxe of hacking his verification of Rustam's level "Devil Vortex". One piece of "evidence" used by Npesta was a seemingly-random alignment of sawblades placed near the top of the level (when viewed in the editor). Although Tosh would later disprove Npesta's claims, recreations of the sawblades have become very popular in the years that followed, especially on r/GeometryDash.
The Limbo keys/"FOCUS"ExplanationLIMBO is an extreme demon level that places heavy emphasis on memorization. This culminates in the end segment, where you have to play a memory game and track one specific key out of eight as they shuffle around (while at the same time trying not to die during a Wave segment). The arrangement of the keys in conjunction with the accompanying music ("Isolation" by Nighthawk22) and text ("FOCUS") became very popular among the Geometry Dash community, and Limbo keys have been recreated in other games.
Generation RetroExplanationThe fifth level of the Poison Gauntlet. The level became a meme because GD Colon uploaded a video reviewing the level, calling it "the worst level in Geometry Dash" due to its weak gameplay, lackluster decoration, as well as it being forced upon the player. This resulted in many players hating on the level and calling it "the worst gauntlet level".
Geometry Dash YouTube ShortsExplanationLow-effort Geometry Dash-themed YouTube Shorts that get a high amount of views. Content may be Levels of Difficulty, showcasing troll levels, or a random layout with either a mouse cam that doesn't sync, footage of Family Guy or Subway Surfers, and of course, the "World's Smallest Violin" song.
I love GD CologneExplanationIn GD Colon's video where he and other YouTubers make parody versions of GD YouTube Shorts, the Short contributed by Colon himself contains a clip of Wulzy saying this exact phrase (with emphasis on the word "love"). Since the video's release, anytime GD Colon is mentioned or referenced, expect somebody in the comments to say this quote or refer to him as "GD Cologne".
I just found this drawing that I did when I had 6 or 7 and I’ve been crying everytime I see the normal difficulty,ExplanationA tweet of a set of drawings of the difficulty icons◊ became quite popular in late 2023, mainly due to the Stylistic Suck nature of the Normal face.
Grandpa DemonExplanationA fanmade demon difficulty designed with many horns and teeth. Possibly become a meme due to its rather unusual name for a demon harder than Extreme Demon. Made viral due to a tweet posted in 2021 that showcases various fanmade demon difficulties with absurd-looking faces, one of which is Grandpa Demon.
¿Tienes 14? Activa camTranslationAre you 14? Activating cameraExplanationA phrase generally used to make fun of GuitarHeroStyles, especially regarding his infamous scandal regarding minors in 2021. Comes from a YouTube thumbnail from Pipepino, a Mexican YouTuber that talks about Spanish-speaking YouTubers (although since 2024, the video's thumbnail has changed).
FIRE IN THE HOLE!ExplanationThis line was used by RobTop in the third sneak peek for update 2.2 to demonstrate the SFX trigger's pitch-shifting functions. He would later use it during the vertical lift section in The Tower's Sewers. It has since become a popular ironic sound effect in Geometry Dash-related shitposting, such as the lobotomy levels mentioned below. It is often related to the Normal difficulty face, due to the lobotomy levels.
Lobotomy levelsExplanationIt's become a notable trend to use the new features 2.2's editor brings to the table to create variants of the official or user-made Geometry Dash levels with lobotomy in the name, typically filled with absurd sounds, imagery, and setpieces. Expect to see a lot of difficulty icons as well.
FEETExplanationA sound effect that, like "Fire in the hole!" above, is frequently used in lobotomy levels. This sound can be done by taking the "Defeat" sound and setting the starting position strategically so that only "feet" can be heard.
Water on the hill ExplanationAn opposite version of "Fire in the Hole", added into the game's "Dont" SFX folder by RobTop in an attempt to discredit the Lobotomy meme. It is associated with the Easy face.
