Himuro and Fuyutsuki are two young adults ready for their first steps into their new job. The issue: Himuro is the descendant of a Yuki Onna whose powers flare up during his emotional moments and is in admiration of Fuyutsuki. Can his feelings break through both of their icy walls?
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague (氷属性男子とクールな同僚女子, read as Kōri Zokusei Danshi to Kūru na Dōryō Joshi) is a Josei manga by Miyuki Tonogaya. It originally started as a online manga in Gangan Pixiv in 2019 before receiving an anime adaptation in the Winter of 2023.
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague contains examples of the following:
- Adaptational Early Appearance: While the early manga chapters focus almost exclusively on Himuro and Fuyutsuki, the anime introduces their coworkers and establishes their friendship from the beginning.
- Asian Fox Spirit: One of the coworkers at the office, Komori, is the descendant of a kitsune, although her ears and tail are not always present.
- Fear of Thunder: Komori has a strong fear of thunder, as seen in the chapter where Fuyutsuki, Komori, and Otonashi spend the night at a business hotel while the trains are stopped due to heavy rain. Fuyutsuki thinks she resembles Nyamero hiding under the blankets.
- Fountain of Youth: If Himuro is too hot, feverish, or embarrassed, he'll "melt" into a younger version of himself.
- Hidden Depths: Himuro looks like an Ice King at first glance, serious and stoic, which barely hides his personality of a romantic dork.
- An Ice Person: Himuro can create snow and freeze objects, although his usage is more often unintentional, usually flaring up whenever he's agitated.
- Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Fuyutsuki owns a cat she calls Nyamero. Himuro likes cats alot but due to his powers they don't like him so he has to make do with online cat videos.
- Magic Realism: Yokai and other mythical creatures unquestionably exist in the setting. No humans are shown to be skeptical of or surprised by that fact when meeting a descendent of such beings.
- Meaningful Name: Himuro translates to "ice house," fitting for the descendant of a yuki-onna that has only partial control over his ice powers. Meanwhile, Fuyutsuki means "winter moon" and sounds almost exactly like "fuyu suki", or "loves winter," and she very obviously cares about Himuro. Their respective first names, Yukiya and Mio, means "snow arrow" and "beautiful cherry blossom".
- No Full Name Given: Most of the cast is only known by their family name. The first moment when given names are revealed are when Himuro and Fuyutsuki confess to each other, switching to First-Name Basis to further emphasize the impact. Their first names are Yukiya and Mio, respectively.
- Periphery Demographic: An In-Universe case; Fuyutsuki is revealed to be a fan of George the Kitten, an anime meant for children. Himuro gets into it as well.
- The Phoenix: Katori, Himuro's childhood friend, is a descendant of a phoenix. He has red wings, though he hides them, but when he is excited, tiny fireworks explode around him.
- Power Incontinence: Himuro tends to accidentally cause flurries and cold breezes localized on him when his emotions flare up. Fuyutsuki takes advantage of this during their company's Okinawa retreat when Himuro goes missing; she's able to track him down when she feels a cold draft near her.
- The Stoic: Fuyutsuki rarely if ever shows emotion on her face, something that has been often commented upon.
- Twice Shy: The lead characters, Himuro and Fuyutsuki, are both very reserved and rather reluctant to express their feelings in front of each other. While Himuro has his Power Incontinence as a giveaway, Fuyutsuki is much harder to read and keeps her cool (almost) at all times.
- Work Com: While primarily a romance, the story is also a comedy that takes place mostly in Himuro and Fuyutsuki's workplace.
- Youkai: Several characters are descendant of these, and they exist in this setting. Albeit the main characters represent some of the more popular one, others are mentioned, like the company president being a Nurarihyon descendant.
- Yuki Onna: Himuro is a descendant of a Yuki-onna, and thus has inherited her ice powers.
