An index of works that revolve around cows, bulls, yaks, buffalo, bison, oxen, or any other bovinae. Bovid-like creatures such as minotaurs can be included too. To count, the work must feature a bovine as the main protagonist(s), the main threat, or otherwise central to the plot; merely having one in it doesn't qualify.

  • The Book of the Dun Cow: The fantasy novel by Walter Wagernin Jr. stars a rooster as protagonist, but the Dun Cow is the messenger of the Big Bad who ultimately threatens Chanticleer's realm.
  • The Crippled Lamb: A Christmas children's book by Max Lucado starring Joshua the Lamb who feels lonely and rejected from his own flock. Abigail the cow serves as a mother figure to Joshuda and later witnesses the birth of Jesus alongside encountering Mary and Joseph. The book gained an animated adaptation by StarToons in 1999.
  • Holy Cow: In the humorous novel by David Duchovny, the titular cow leads a few other farm animals on an adventurous journey to find each Animal's concept of happiness away from the farm.
  • Jack and the Beanstalk: Jack trading his family cow for magic beans is what starts the famous story.
  • The Last Unicorn: Though King Haggard is the one holding the leash, The Red Bull is a demonic bull-like creature that is responsible for the rest of the unicorns disappearing.
