A cable/satellite channel of The Walt Disney Company, only available in the US and Japan and established in June 9th, 2023.
Teen Disney was conceived as a supplementary channel to Freeform, and a way for Disney to finally do a teen-oriented channel but without the one thing that they can't get rid of- The contract to air The 700 Club, for once. The channel, despite being dedicated to teens, has a good amount of content including Disney Channel and Freeform reruns, select anime, and even imported shows like it's competitor TeenNick does. All of these while keeping its plans intact without getting into Network Decay like its other contemporaries (Yes, including its sibling network Disney Channel).
The channel is also home to previous shows that are not anymore reran on other channels, giving the channel a good reputation for some shows that many people would love to see again, and the channel also drew praise for giving The Owl House fans what they wished for- a full fledged season 3 of the show, but with a 30 episode run, to the point Dana Terrace said that the Teen Disney run of season 3 is the definitive version of that season. It helps that Teen Disney is operated by people who used to be Disney Channel and Toon Disney viewers (and some who are even Disney influencers themselves), with Executive Meddling being unheard of in this channel. The channel was also the first time the Macross series finally aired on US television, specifically Macross 7, Macross Frontier and Macross Delta, to the delight of Macross fans in the country. The channel also became the home of the Viz Media dub of Sailor Moon in US television, with all the seasons of the show aired there, including the US debut of the never aired before in the country Sailor Stars season.
The channel debuted its first original series, Thomas from Disneyland, on September 16th, 2023, created by Michael Poryes (of Hannah Montana fame), starring August Maturo as the titular Thomas in his big return to Disney after a few years, focusing on Thomas Bartholomew, A cast member on the resort who wishes to someday be a Disney influencer, but trials and tribulations that bring him in are preventing him to get near to his dream. The series also stars Mckenna Grace as his love interest, Emily Banks, making the show their first production together. The series also serves as a Product Placement for Disneyland itself, and features Jodi Benson's song "Disneyland" from the musical Smile as its ending credits song. That same day, a Foreign Remake of Tokusatsu GaGaGa debuted on the channel, created by Terri Minsky in her first Disney-based production since Andi Mack, and featuring the television debut of online influencer Anna Brisbin as Keely Nelson, who is a Tokusatsu geek like in the original. Unlike the original version, the series was given a starting 2 season run, with some chapters from the original manga being adapted too.
Teen Disney's programming blocks include:
- Anime Advent Attack!: Basically Teen Disney's anime block. Along with the aforementioned Macross and Sailor Moon, the block is also home to the English dub of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, for one example.
- Freeform Encore: Focuses on reruns of Freeform Teen Drama series. So far, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Switched at Birth, Make It or Break It, The Fosters, Bunheads and Jane by Design are the most commonly shown in this block.
- Imported by TD: International shows are the focus here, and some are dubbed in English if the show is not in that language. H₂O: Just Add Water, My Babysitter's a Vampire, The Worst Witch and the original Japanese version of the aforementioned Tokusatsu GaGaGa, among others, are the shows seen on this block.
- That's So Throwback: Originally from Freeform, this made its way to the channel after years of not being used. Technically the channel's equivalent to TeenNick's NickRewind block, which has since been off the air when the channel was launched. Unlike the Freeform version, it airs also on mornings and afternoons. Mostly reruns Disney Channel's Kid Com shows of Even Stevens all the way up to Sonny with a Chance (Excluding Cory in the House for obvious reasons).
