”We all remember the flipping Havel moms and dads on 1.05…and we’re damn glad they’re gone

INITIATE PHASE ONE
The lord of all PvPers, the Godfather of Duels, the invader of invaders, he is the almighty Giant Dad. And nothing in the land of Lordran will stand in his way!

POWER UP THE BASS CANNON
Initially created as a griefer build, it became popular among min-maxers due to the meta of Dark Souls. The build mostly focuses on dumping every level-up stat into Vitality and Endurance to be as durable and nimble as possible. 3/4ths of the armor worn have the absolute best overall defense stats in the game as well as the second-highest Poise, while the mask and rings are for boosting maximum equipment load even further to be able to move and roll as fast as possible even while wearing the aforementioned (ridiculously heavy) armor and carrying a BFS.

The origin of the build can be traced to this video.

FIRE!!!!

  • Arc Words: "The Legend Never Dies!"
  • Audience Surrogate: More or less shares the same opinions of the stereotypical Dark Souls PvP players.
  • Berserk Button: Has a disdain for "casuls", people who rely purely on magic, and people who level up their Dexterity (although the latter two may simply be different flavors of "casul" in his eyes). If you absolutely must level up Dexterity for a weapon requirement, he advises you to keep such a shameful thing to yourself and never tell anyone.
  • BFS: He swings the Bass Cannon with both of his hands, but does so with such might, that he prefers it that way.
  • Blatant Lies: He was once parried and riposted by a Darkmoon Blade. To this day, he insists that he "got back up and pwned him" despite all evidence suggesting otherwise.
  • Blood Knight: Enjoys a good fight, and it's the reason he invades other Undead and makes himself equally susceptible to being invaded.
  • Bond One-Liner: "Shiva of the East? More like Shiva the Deceased!"
  • Bowdlerize: The video's creator edited it down the line to censor the word “Faggot”, likely due to it violating YouTube’s community guidelines.
    • The message he received from a player who indicted him after being defeated was also edited to omit the n-word.
  • Bright Is Not Good: His armor is golden (well, brass, but close enough), but he's also a bloodthirsty sociopath.
  • Casting a Shadow: His Black Flame pyromancy is a product of the Abyss. However, as Dark elemental damage didn't exist in the first Dark Souls (being introduced in Dark Souls II), it does a combination of Fire and Physical damage instead.
  • Cool Mask: His iconic Mask of the Father not only gives benefits to his fighting style, but it's also, in his own words, the best-looking mask in the game.
  • Cycle of Hurting: His main gimmick is to stagger his foe with his Zweihander by swinging it 4 times. When his prey gets caught by the first swing, so long as they don't have the poise to withstand the swing, there's no escape for them.
  • Dark Is Evil: As a red/black phantom, he's out to kill the host Undead. He also employs Black Flame, a pyromancy with the power of the Abyss.
  • Dark Secret: In order to be able to equip his almighty Zweihander, he was forced to put a single point into Dexterity. He has sworn never to reveal this to anyone.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Boasts that his Ring of Favor and Protection increases "Stamina, Health, Endurance. Everything you could ever want!", when Stamina and Endurance are essentially the same thing, as one increases Stamina by leveling up the Endurance stat.note
  • Dumb Muscle: Started as a Bandit with only 8 Intelligence, the lowest of any starting class (tied with Cleric), and didn't bother to put even a single point into it, instead choosing to beef up his Vitality and Endurance to ridiculous levels. Perhaps this lack of intelligence is why he can't seem to spell worth a damn.
  • Dump Stat: The Bass Cannon, being infused with Chaos, does not scale with either Strength or Dexterity, thus he has only invested exactly enough points in each to be able to wield the sword at all. This involved increasing his Dexterity by one point, of which he is forever ashamed and will never admit to anyone. He also employs pyromancy, which also does not scale off of any stats, which means no Intelligence of Faith investment either.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: This image shows us a Havel Mom and a Guardian Son. It's unknown how legit the photo is, unfortunately.
  • Evil Gloating: His signature "Well! What is it!" boast while handing both arms up, as if rubbing salt to his victims and/or goading his foe to attacking recklessly.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Of the Ax-Crazy variant; it doesn't matter who he invades, be it a Sunbro, Darkmoon Blade, Forest Hunter, Gravelord, or even another Darkwraith, he will go out to kill you.
  • Follow the Leader: Two fellow Undead have tried to mimic him to various success. Word also has it that a monastery in Japan is protected by a European knight who not only takes after his fighting style, but is also a literal father. Even in a future era where he and his deeds have likely been long forgotten, hunters of monstrous beasts and eldritch horrors have been known to employ a powerful tactic known as the "Bass Cannon", proving that the Legend truly never dies.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Was once a common Undead bandit, he's now one of the most dangerous fighters to walk Lordran.
  • Gratuitous German: Inverted. He insists on calling his Zweihander a "Two-Hander" rather than its actual German (Catarinan?) name. That is, whenever he isn't calling it by its nickname.
  • I Call It "Vera": He named his Chaos Zweihander "The Bass Cannon".
  • I Shall Taunt You: He will start every fight with the iconic imposing posture.
  • Leitmotif: Existence VIP by Excision & Downlink is associated with him thanks to his intro video having the music.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He focused on leveling up almost nothing but his Vitality and Endurance, giving him a massive amount of HP and enough equipment load to wear extremely heavy and tanky armor while still being just as quick and agile as if he was completely naked. However, his attack speed with his BFS is quite slow... but unless you're almost as tanky as him, he only needs to hit you with it once for you to be helplessly trapped in the stunlock.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: His name comes from his outfit: 3 pieces of the Giant set and the Mask of the Father. Together, they make Giant Dad.
  • Magic Knight: A much bigger emphasis on "Knight", since he's a swordsman first who just happens to know Simple, yet Awesome pyromancies. Hell, even his pyromancy does Physical damage.
  • Min-Maxing: So very much. Who needs more than 16 Strength and 10 Dexterity when you have a weapon that doesn't scale with either, so you can put those levels into Vitality and Endurance instead?
  • New Game Plus: He has two copies of Black Flame to increase his available casts. Since only one copy can be obtained per playthrough, that means New Game+, bitches.
  • Not the Intended Use:
    • The build was intended as a griefer build, but is far more common in structured PVP.
    • The Grass Crest Shield. Shields are normally meant to block damage and/or parry, but he just keeps it on his back at all times to use as a Stat Stick.
  • Old Shame: Putting a point into dexterity.
  • One-Handed Zweihänder: Defied, he prefers all of his might being used with both hands. note
  • Playing with Fire: His Zweihander deals fire damage, and also has a spell called Black Flame that does a short-ranged, but very weighty combustion.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He won't hesitate to call you a faggot if you openly admit to leveling up Dexterity.
  • Red Baron: The Legend.
  • Ring of Power: "Wt ring u got bithc?" He wears Havel's Ring and the Ring of Favor and Protection. In addition to the extra health and stamina provided by the latter, both rings combined with his whopping 66 Endurance and the effect of his mask raise his equip load just high enough for him to achieve lightroll in his ungodly heavy gear.
  • Skill Gate Characters: The creator of the video claims he chose a build that sounds good but doesn't actually work if you know what you're doing. New players will charge in and be stunlocked to death; experienced players can parry his slow-but-strong attacks and riposte him to death with their eyes closed. This actually shows up in the original video, claims of having "GOT BACK UP AND PWNED HIM" notwithstanding.
  • Stat Sticks: Just like damn near everyone else, he keeps a Grass Crest Shield permanently glued to his back for the bonus to stamina regeneration it provides, and never actually uses it for blocking anything.
  • Stealth Mentor: Some speculate that his antagonistic behaviour is all an act meant to motivate other Undead to "git gud" out of spite, so that they may one day pose a challenge for him and perhaps even surpass him.
  • Troll: The whole purpose of the build was initially to give PvE players a hard time. PvP Players ended up using this when they found out it had uses there due to Min-Max potential.
  • Walking the Earth: It's implied he doesn't have a set home, just wandering around.
