Heartwarming / The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

Go To

General

  • Bobby's inclusion in the intro, especially the final family photo. He has always been treated as a side character even though he's a Proud, and has appeared more often than anyone else from the Proud side of the family. After so long, he's finally given the respect he deserves.

Season 1

"New Kids On The Block"
  • Although he ends up getting hurt from it, Bobby doing something nice for Trudy's business and going as far as upgrading her van. Throughout the original series, Trudy didn't have many scenes with Bobby and the ones where she did showed some annoyance towards him. It is nice to see here that not only are they getting along but they seem to have a much better relationship than they did before.
  • Penny defending her friends to Maya. Considering Dijonay and LaCienega aren't among the nicest of them and have backstabbed her many times, many fans have often wondered why Penny still keeps them around. Penny tells Maya that they respect her for being herself, and that's good enough for her.
  • When it's revealed that Sticky has moved away to Japan with his father, he leaves a note that Penny reads, the first sentence simply reading of how much he's gonna miss her, while Penny simply says "awww!" in response. It's a cute way to show that the two of them really were friends at the end of the day. Also, the letter itself says "you guys" plural, so it's likely that Sticky was referring to Zoey and LaCienega as well.
  • Michael is shown helping out his friends with their wardrobe throughout the episode. While most of those scenes are made for laughs, Michael's determination to make his friends look good and feel good is very sweet of him.

"Bad Influence(r)"

  • Makeup Boy (who reveals that his real name is Sebastian Boyle) proves to be extremely understanding to Penny at the end of the episode, explaining that Penny's callout of him was for the best because she directed him towards a better path (running a beagle rescue to protest against animal testing for makeup products). He then gives some good advice on the corrupting influence of fame, asking Penny to make sure she doesn't fall victim to it either. After how often Penny's friends have backstabbed her, it's cathartic to see her getting a win.

"It All Started With an Orange Basketball"

"Father Figures"

  • Despite Maya's treatment to her in the last 3 episodes, Penny stood up for her and her brother when the two were being bulled for having two dads. Penny doesn’t believe anyone deserves that treatment, not even her worst enemies. Maya would later say thanks for the effect, showing Maya can be friendly and even appreciative to Penny. It goes to show Maya can respect someone even if she dislikes them, and in Penny’s case, she can understand someone without agreeing with them all the time.
  • And there’s the fact that even Suga Mama accepts Randall and Barry’s relationship without question, and there’s a bit of Fridge Brilliance to it. She’s from a a time of immense, institutionalized homophobia and bigotry against people who weren't heterosexual, more so than Oscar’s generation. At best, people from her generation still alive in the 2020’s would’ve accepted, but not without initial hesitation. The elder Proud however, shows zero judgement and reluctance in her eyes at the idea of a man being romantically involved with another man, and it shows what a good person Suga Mama is. Better yet, she later tries to force Oscar to apologize to Randall for being so closeminded.
Suga Mama (to Penny): Baby, he don't want you hangin' out with them two kids cuz they got two daddies. And he wonders why I don't like to admit he's my son!
  • This conversation at the end.
Penny: Daddy, I know you don't agree with me. But you and momma taught me to treat other people the way I wanted to be treated.
Oscar: Mm-hmm. I know, baby-girl. I'm just glad you listen to the smart things that we say, and ignore the dumb stuff.

"Snackland"

  • A subtle moment, but Maya is clearly treating Penny nicer ever since the events of Father Figures. Not only does she feel guilty about replacing Penny in the group, but she joins in on the group moment after the show ends.
  • And Dijonay shows she is trying her hardest to be a better friend to Penny. She, out of everyone (excluding Maya, who wasn’t around at the time) was very supportive of Penny even if she was the only dissenting voice. She does think Penny’s voice is bad, but not terrible, and she encouraged Penny when LaCienega gave her crap. That being said, Dijonay had a lot of faith in Penny even after she was kicked out, which was ultimately vindicated when Penny actually performed.
  • Lizzo giving Penny nice advice on keeping her dreams alive despite the change in her singing voice.

"Get In"

  • Suga Mama giving Penny $200 to start off her business idea.
  • The whole family (save for Oscar) seems to be genuinely happy for Penny's (temporary) success as a CEO of her company.
  • Despite Oscar's attitude, Penny still tries to give him a job as the president for customer service for her company.

"When You Wish Upon a Roker"

  • Oscar and Kareem are shown getting along with each other now, a contrast to episode 3.
  • Despite how much of a jerk Oscar is in the revival show and in this episode, he was able to help free Penny from Al Roker. This is one of the rare moments where Oscar shows his care for Penny and helps her, and he swoops in like a guardian angel. He even gives her advice on having plenty of time to figure out what to do as an adult. He even sings her a song at end of episode. This ultimately proves, for all of his flaws, Oscar does care for his daughter and wants to help her be a better person.
  • Dijonay once again being in Penny’s corner, even if from a distance, and she came through for Penny in the biggest way possible. Because even though she was unable to convince Penny to leave and also went with the rest of the gang to end their trial with Roker and go back to their normal lives, she still refused to just abandon her to this accursed reality, so she gave Oscar the contract so he could rescue her. Penny would not have made it back home if wasn’t for Dijonay.

"Home School"

  • Bobby finding love in the form of Miss Hill. This is good luck for Bobby given his bad luck in the original show.

"Raging Bully"

  • LaBrea helping LaCienega to save her while apologizing, as despite all the things she has done to her, she was willing to help get her down.
  • LaCienega's affectionate interactions with not only her parents, but her aunt, and later her cousin LaBrea after reconciling. This particular episode goes to remind us that even though LaCienega can be very bitchy, she cares for her family very much.

"Old Towne Road Part 1"

  • The big family reunion has a few.
    • Oscar saving BeBe and Tiko from a mad bull is both this and awesome. Immediately Pa Towne welcomes his grandson Oscar into the family and like Oscar says, it's the first time he's felt parental love.

Season 2

"Old Towne Road Part 2"
  • Combined with an awesome moment, Suga Mama saves Oscar from an angry bull at the bull riding contest. Keep in mind, she just wanted to walk away from witnessing the competition she's been denied of, but she just refused to leave her son in danger after hearing his cries.
  • Suga Mama finally gets the respect she deserves from Pa Towne when she wins the bull riding contest. He was pretty shocked at what he saw, and it took quite a while, but he came around.
  • Pa, even though he went out to call his sons "good-for-nothing" at the table, still fully supports and encourages their determination to do better, showing even his love for them hasn't faltered despite seeing his daughter successfully carry out the family tradition. And who better to motivate them than Charlette herself?
  • Myrtle reveals she sent Trudy the invitation to the family reunion and explains why: she wanted to bring Suga back into Pa's life hoping they could reconcile, and also reveals all he would ever talk about was her. Goes to show even if he did look down on her, a part of him felt bothered by her absence, something he would never admit.
  • Suga Mama and Quanah make up and become friends in the end.
  • Kareem assures Penny that nothing went down between him and LaCienega.
  • A small moment but when Bobby easily wins the pepper-eating contest, Oscar (who was sitting directly beside him) was smiling genuinely at his brother's win. Oscar is usually annoyed by Bobby due to Suga Mama's blatant favoritism toward him, but this is one of very few times where Oscar is shown to be actually proud of his brother succeeding at something.

"Grandma's Hands"

  • Despite her rebellious attitude, Oscar still sticks by Penny's side.
  • Even after enduring a ton of pain and embarrassment from Suga Mama, Penny manages to be the bigger person and take care of her when she's injured. She even says that she's not gonna mistreat Suga Mama when she's injured like that.
  • At the end, Trudy revealed that she was hard on Penny because she loves and cares about her and doesn't want her daughter to make choices that she'll regret.

"Curved"

  • Despite using Dijonay to win the debate finals, Darrius is shown to be regretful of his actions and even went to her to make amends afterward.
    • Dijonay herself had every right to be upset with Darrius, but she's willing to give him another chance.

"Innocence Lost"

  • Even after the others were rude to her about Noah crushing on her, Zoey still breaks things off with him, saying that if her friends are uncomfortable, then she is too.
  • After spending the whole episode ostracized for being liked by a black man, Zoey decides to reciprocate Myron's feelings for her. What nails it in is his clarifying that he likes her for her.

"BeBe"

  • Oscar's defense of his son BeBe saying there's nothing wrong with him, although misguided (and a bit skewed, considering he doesn't want to pay money for BeBe to attend Dr. Lord's special preschool), shows that Oscar genuinely loves his children.
  • The above is cemented when Oscar saves BeBe from the unsafe Proud Snacks factory. Even after getting his factory shut down right then and there, Oscar puts his selfishness aside, shows concern for his son's well-being, hugs him, and decides to place him in the special preschool.
  • On BeBe's first day at his new preschool, he instantly bonds with some of the other children.
  • Dr. Lord recognizes that Penny needs room to vent, allowing her to express her frustration with knowing Oscar and Trudy will once again make her responsible for looking after her siblings like they always do. Penny's told her frustrations are understandable since she's in a tough situation, and Dr. Lord offers to let Penny talk with her whenever she needs it.
    • Following this, Trudy admits the following day that they can't keep dumping responsibility for the twins on Penny's shoulders because it's not fair to her, especially now that they know BeBe is autistic and thus will need help that a middle-schooler can't provide.

Juneteenth

  • LaCienega, of all the kids, is so outraged at learning that Christian A. Smith was a slaveowner and that everyone is honoring him and renovating his statue that she outright agrees with Penny's statement that what really needs renovating is the way history is told.
  • When Wizard Kelly brings in police in full riot gear to bring down Maya and her protest, you can hear people in the background shouting "Come on! They're just kids!". While it unfortunately doesn't stop what eventually transpires, it's nice to know at least some members of the crowd realized how overboard Kelly's actions were.
