Heartwarming / The Parent Trap (1961)

Go To

  • Miss Inch's goal in the Isolation punishment is to force Susan and Sharon to figure out how to get along after all the disrupting fighting that they took part in, so it's done out from a stance of tough love. It does indeed benefit the girls greatly as them being forced to stay together is how they discover their true connection and do finally make up—heck, she even correctly assumed they were twin sisters at first too. That Miss Inch's own words even reflect what could've happened also speaks for itself.
Miss Inch: Either you'll find a way to live with each other or you'll punish yourselves far better than I ever could.
    • She also makes it a point to say to at least one of the girls on the final day that she hopes the Isolation measures worked and is glad to hear they did.
  • Susan telling her dancing partner how much she loves her father and how she looks forward to the after-camp trip to the wilderness she always took annually with her father and Hecky.
  • Susan meeting her grandparents and mother for the first time in a long time.
    • Taking some close sniffs of her Grandfather and noting how she always wants to remember his signature scent of tobacco and peppermint. She is soaking in her grandfather as much as possible. And he responds lovingly in kind.
    • Just that gasp of "Mother!" when she sees her mother; even Maggie greeting her daughter (despite thinking it's the daughter she kept) shows a lot of excitement and affection like "I missed you so!"
    • Susan staring at her mother.
      My! Are you beautiful!
  • Sharon's interactions with Mitch.
Ho, ho, ho. Welcome home kiddo.
  • Hecky and Verbena practically greet her as though she were their beloved niece.
  • After Susan reveals her identity and notes how she just wanted to meet her mother, the family hugs her.
  • Maggie abandoning a day of plans (including a very important meeting) to give Sharon (really Susan) The Talk. Social obligations or no, her daughter needs her.
  • Maureen O'Hara singing "For Now, For Always".
  • When Mitch thinks that it's time for Susan (really Sharon) to get The Talk, he's uncomfortable, he flusters, he stammers, he babbles, but what doesn't he do? Try to get out of it. Even though he probably figured that Verbena would take care of this (and granted, she probably did), he's going to face this challenge head-on.
  • This dialogue:
Mitch: You can slug me in the eye any time you want.
    Maggie: Okay!
  • When Sharon and Susan realize they're twins. Susan drops down on her bed in tears, clutching Maggie's picture. Sharon comes back into the cabin and touches her on the shoulder. Susan then sits up and the girls hug. They then have this exchange:
Sharon: I didn't know what to say.
Susan: Neither did I. [long pause] Golly! Sisters!
